I absolutely LOVE this pick. This kid is very smart, very accurate and a real leader. He completed 72% of his passes last season. Future franchise QB and immediate backup to Derek Carr.

Fresno State Bulldogs only college football team in history to start a season 1 -- 4 and then win out and finish at 10 -- 4 . Haener was a big part of that historic turnaround. Lived in Fresno over 30 years. A big Bulldogs fan. Now have 2 Bulldogs with the Saints. And both are QB's. Awesome.

I do too. I think this young man could lead a dink and dunk offense the same way Drew Brees did his last 3 years ( after his surgically repaired shoulder started to wear out)an offense good enough to contend for a superbowl, if you have a good defense.

Great kid, he loved Brees and the saints his whole life, had the opportunity to be mentored by Drew and Carr. He is very smart and sounds like he has studied and picked apart Drew's game so he can emulate him and be successful. He always wanted to play for the Saints and now he is here. WOW, really what a great story. I cant wait to see how he develops and hope he gets a chance to start for a short period so we can see him in action, living his dream with all the starters. I feel like he won't disappoint when he gets the chance. Congrats Jake 👊⚜️

Great pickup by the Saints. This kid is an absolute gamer. Watch his highlights against UCLA. He might not have the height, arm strength and elusiveness of other QBs, but makes up for it with his accuracy, high QB IQ and toughness. Haener scored 96 on the S2 test behind Bryce Young.

Brees was successful because he obsessed in the offseason in preparation. As a result, he was able to learn advanced concepts techniques quickly because he was so prepared. He visualizes in his preparation too. If he’s seen something that he’s visualized, then he’d be ready to react. For anyone that wants to emulate, must literally duplicate how Bree’s prepares. If I were Jake, I’d be meeting w/ Drew early and often. DB never seemed distracted, so eliminating distractions and dive into it, 24/7. GL JH. Make it happen.

Drew visualized and practiced the short throw so much.... to the extent that for years 3rd and 4th down with one yard to go was more than not a pass. It was that reliable

I watch a lot of college football and I was looking in the draft of where this kid was going to get drafted. It is so crazy that he might eventually be Drew 2.0 is mind bending. Regardless, it’s still awesome story.

And people was coming for me in this comment section for what I said about this QB, I know wtf I'm talking about! A.T Perry is the second pick I predicted in this draft for the Saints. Look, I got nothing but love for this QB especially since he's a Saint now. I just don't like the idea of having 3 QBs on the roster but I believe the Saints have done it before. I believe the Taysom QB experiment is over with DA at the helm (excluding wildcat)

Congrats to this guy but I think QB is a waisted pick. We just signed DC to a 4 year max deal and have Jameis Winston and Taysom as backups. The only way I see this working out is if Jameis leaves after next season and they drafted this guy just to be a reliable backup.

@@barbaraGobert31 yeah they didn’t necessarily have to draft the LSU defensive tackle but there are holes on the roster and there are still good finds in the 4th round to find players that could give the team quality snaps in the 4th round the 5th round would have been better to draft a 3rd string quarterback in my opinion even if it meant losing this particular player
