Hi, 9B No. Ca. here. Another gardener I watch from Iowa uses bulb food when he plants garlic. I have grown for a number of years now and hands down my favorite is Elephant garlic which is not really garlic but in the leek family. Super large garlic and mild. I will be planting out in the next few days and will use bulb food and either chicken or steer manure. I am sure you will have lots of garlic.
Thanks! All the elephant garlic was sold out by the time I ordered but I am going to try and get my hands on some next year. I’ve heard so many other people also say they enjoy growing it. I hope we both get lots of garlic!!!
Oh what a coincidence, here I pulled my garlic which is ready as our longest day is approaching soon. I did pull it bit early as it was ready due to dry spring weather here and I am not in town for next four weeks. Read about garlic that you need it to plant it on shortest day and pull it on longest day. Since I started growing garlic in my backyard garden for last few years, I realised that how easy it is to grow garlic and you will stop eating any other garlic. Good luck for your garlic crop.
Thanks! I haven’t heard that before and it sounds like a good rule of thumb. Using that method I’m only about 4 weeks early so I’m hoping they’ll just be happy with a little extra time in the ground 😄.
