2023 Planner Reflections & 2024 Choices 

I think you should pick a "master planner" that you can transfer stuff into from planners you hop to so that you end up with at least one satisfyingly full book at the end of the year

I think you should keep the olive weeks and get the a6 hon in the cat pattern so you can enjoy both of the covers you like. I also think hopping is ok as long as you transfer your information into one planner that you can keep to look back on.

I have a red weeks that’s going to be my planner. The cats weeks that u bought I am going to use as a book journal. Left side for title and author, right side of page for a brief rating of what I thought of it. I have an a6 partially used hobonichi I’m going to use for common placing. And I have a large moleskine daily planner to use as a daily journal. The small monthly pages in the Moleskine I will keep track of the weather for the year. I also love the pocket moleskines so I will use them in future years for common placing. That is how things stand so far😊.

Thank you for sharing! Honestly, I felt you gravitated more towards the olive green hobo weeks, so I would probably keep that one over the cats one. You also seemed more excited to talk about that one. Around 8:20 you mentioned you didn’t like seeing so many daily pages unused (I think that may be your english A6 planner? Hard to tell with the brown cover). I think the A6 day free may work for you for that. You can date it as you go (and I know you mentioned around 31:20 that the dates help you stay motivated, but I think seeing less blanks may make you feel more accomplished at the end of the day).

Listening to you talk, it sounds like you need to get the A6 Hon with the cat cover. It solves multiple confusions for you. And who doesn't love cats?😂

I bought SO MANY PLANNERS this year, after using my common planner for all of 2023. What am I using for 2024? A dang B6 common planner. I resold a lot of the things I bought but some were at a loss and some I had started to use. I figured this out by trying to implement my planning system and finding a ton of pain points that weren't in my common planner

I’ve been using my stash this year - Washi and stickers. I’m still going which highlights for me that I was buying and not using things. The stash is slowly reducing and it feels satisfying. Now I have to do this with paper products. Told myself I wouldn’t get all 3 hobonichi sizes - but when the time came I caved but I don’t feel too guilty. I could always give something away if I wanted to. Thanks for sharing.

I use a dated Kinbor A5 for my journal and memory-keeping instead of a Cousin for the exact reason that you mention: I don't need the weekly layouts. I was in an A6 last year and moved to the A5 for 2023 because I like the extra space on a page so I can include souvenirs, photos, stickers, or draw / paint in addition to writing. It's a nice bonus that the Kinbor is 30% the cost of the Cousin, but even if it wasn't, I would still choose it because I like the layout (no quotes) and the paper is similar to Tomoe River - thin, takes watercolor and fountain pen well.

I say use the Rings, Weeks, the A6 techo, the moleskine for work. But like you said use the rings as a commonplace in the mornings. So that just leaves the hobo a6 orignal and now I can't remember what you used that for. haha. My mind just works better using different books/planners/journals for different things. Plus it helps me not get bored too. I did use the fitness committ 30 this year for my weight loss. I too was hoping for some changes to the book, but will be using something else next year. Happy you are embracing the planners :)

I printed out a month of the daily Commit 30 planner, using the free printable. But… I don’t know. I surprised myself by hopping into a pocket TN. I was so sure that I’d go into a narrow TN, but… pocket. So the chaos ensues.

I’ve settled on a mega weeks for 2024. It’s the only planner I always seem to use best despite trying literally every planner I see 😂

There is so many choices in this planner/journal world, it makes it so hard to choose.! I use my Cousin for daily memory keeping, tip ins, paint, I do have empty pages, (learning to except it). My Weeks sits on 39:00 39:00 where my daughter and her family live, (who is 3 hours south from me), daily notes, grocery items to get, to dos etc, & more recent is my love of the Traveler Notebook, because I Love the MD paper, and the size, I like that I can have a weey, a monthly and a diary all in one. Especially when I travel to my daughters, I just need to take 1 planner with me. fyi: I do take out the notebook from the strings when I write in it.! Good luck with your decisions.!! On a side note….I did buy the a6 in the Hon, hoping I like it.!!

Hey Sam. I like the Cousin for the vertical spread for work, but not with the days, I would prefer just notes at the back. For journalling, I would prefer the Cousin to just have the days, not the weeklys. So,I have ordered the Kinbor Day A5 for daily journalling, the Kinbor A6 for my weight loss journal, both in the dragon, because they are cute and to try them out this year because they are less expensive and there was no delivery fee. My expensive purchase was the Wonderland A5 Weekly for work. It has what I want for work, the vertical weekly and the notes at the back. But I miss the Weeks! However, my son is in Japan and has bought me the cats weeks for Xmas! That will live in my bag. I will be keen to see what you decide in the end!

Just turn the cousin into a common place books. Get the cat Hon, you will be happier. I use the field notes by topic for common placing. For lifetime learning, I will use a B6 notebook.

Thanks Sam. For me its Pocket tn as edc. A5 rings as main planner and common place book. All of it is from my stash. Ive put aside the standard tn and the personal rings.... for now anyway.

B6 Slim TN as my EDC and the main homebase functional catch all is going to be a Sprouted Weekly planner. I have used everything and hopped around so much it’s only one I have used for more than 3 years now. Although I’d be lying if I didn’t say wonderland 222 and hobo weeks aren’t still tempting me 😂

I've been using the Hobonichi Avec A5 for years, but I find I don't use the daily pages. I wish the weekly came in a little bigger size. I have to have everything in one book and it needs to lay flat and no rings. I can't stand rings.

With the Traveler’s - I love the size but hate the bands, so I just don’t carry them in the leather case but in like an A5 zip to protect them :) I feel your pain with buying and not knowing why - I have so many planners now oops!! But I really hope you come up with something you feel happy with. Also totally get not wanting to write down bad memories - but I have a lot of mental health problems too and sometimes it can be good to vent and then you can rip it all up afterward if you don’t want to look back at it but might be a place to offload 💙

I too thought I was moving away from Hobonichi, but I received two things as a gift and now 4/5 of my planners are Hobonichi haHA

Yeah there’s just too many products out there and it makes us feel like we have to buy everything! What made me realize I had a problem was moving into my boyfriends house. I threw away A LOT of art supplies / stationary (I should’ve donated them idk why I didn’t) but it made me realize how much of a hassle it was to move and just how sad it was to throw it all away. Waste of money and waste of product. So now I’ve been doing really good using old journals as scratch paper and going back into my half filled notebooks and using them as journals. I also have been trying to use old stickers and washi tape. I also know what you mean by “dopamine hit” because you really do get a rush knowing you have something new coming. Give yourself grace, try your best. Im happy you’re trying the “spend less” thing. Hopefully it can help to kind of get you out of this cycle of buying and then feeling like poop when it doesn’t work out.

Hon cats seems a good choice, but assume you’d at least want a coc on the fabric cover? I have the cats weeks. I liked the botanical but the white line on the back cover where the design ends bothers me. Even though I use covers, gah, I know! I’m the same on rings, currently in personal but have all the set up for pocket wide if the mood takes, I can use free printable inserts. I’m torn between using the weeks for my throw in my bag, or I’ve a pocket moleskine daily that would be good for lists as well as dates and times. Journaling is a Hobonichi A6 5 year (wish me luck) for the first time. I’ve a theory the small size will be less commitment. I did journal in a weeks one year and that worked due to the small size of each day. I do struggle with daily dated pages though as I hate skipping. My April start cousin is very sporadic with entries as it’s just too big and I’m too lazy to print pictures despite getting a Sprocket. The paper is pricy! Like you I need to do a “no planner buy” next year, and defo thinking about selling a couple of rarely used weeks moterm covers. I’m resisting a moterm veg tan personal as I know that back pocket bugs me and makes the planner chunkier. I like the compact Malden you shared, the flexibility. But I accidentally bought 2024 inserts for my personal that have the monthlies in with the weeks pages. Not keen but I have to make it work as I’m not buying more. So I’d have to use just a month or so in the compact and I like having my whole year in monthlies. Urrrrrgggghhh. Good luck if you read and understood all that, but it was helpful to me! 🙈

What forum do you use to sell your rejected planner supplies? I understand what you are going through. I am purging and committing to using what I have before buying more!

What do you need most in a book? What problem or goal do you want the book to address for you? What feature/s do you require in a book? What feature's makes a book a no-go for you? Just answer these honestly and find planner peace forever

How about the perfect size of an A6 rings? You have earlier said that you loved your A6… Have you changed your mind. If so, what changed?

For me I don’t follow by date - I just write when I do for gratitude or verse that might stand out to me & I also find 1 thing via my day that was good no matter how bad it may be - this way I use the whole planner my way lolol😊

My current struggle is whether I keep my A5 Hon or sell it and get an A6. I’ve never stayed with a cousin, so why did I buy the A5 hon? Cuz it’s pretty……🤦🏼‍♀️
