One of my “Glory Days” moments came in wrestling in 83 or 84. I played both ways in football, Strong Safety and Fullback, and we made the playoffs, so I decided not to wrestle as they overlapped. After losing in the Playoffs, the wrestling coach convinced me to wrestle, although I was in my heavier football condition, nothing ready to wrestle. The first match I had, I think I got down to 171 in a few weeks, was in a tournament, and I was facing #3 ranked dude from Irmo. To this day I really don’t recall what actually happened, but I pinned him in seconds. That dude, despite being all cocky and dismissive of me prior to the match, followed me the remainder of the tourney. I actually lost in the next round, neck bridging almost the entire match…but at least I didn’t get pinned, lol. My son wrestled in HS and I used to tell my quick-pin story for years. In a really cool validation moment…years later my old classmates had a fund-raiser cookout for me when I was hit with several autoimmune diseases in 2012. Halfway through, I saw a great old friend I wrestled with. I immediately told someone to go get my son, as I wanted Layne to tell him the story…then Layne said “I’ve already met your son and that’s the first thing I told him”. I was elated, as Layne told it better than I even recalled. I always told my son the guy was like #8 and I pinned him in the first period. Layne remembered it clearly that the guy was #3 and undefeated. Apparently Layne was just under me in weight and had wrestled the Irmo dude a few times, but cut weight to avoid him. He couldn’t believe I pinned the guy in like 8 seconds, even faster than I always told it. Anyway, just a cool full-circle moment for someone to validate a story I’m sure my son thought I was embellishing the entire time.

So, why aren't they using the new scoring system? Somehow, I thought it was being implemented at both College and HS...??? I think the rule changes are great!

Joy in the first match needs to actually try to put together some offense… He was down in the third And didn’t really try to shoot at all… do you need to take shots in order to set up other tiedowns

In the last match of the video, that kid should've gotten his 1 point escape for loss of control before they went out of bounds. And then to take it away without a definitive replay is BS. In all my years of high school wrestling, I've never once seen a ref go back on a call... Even if it was a terrible call and the ref knew it. They always stuck by their calls! Absolute BS in my opinion! That kid that lost should've been granted overtime and been given the opportunity to win in OT. SMH

got called for a full nelson when i did an arm bar & half. my coach argued it, showed the ref videos w multiple angles, and the mf did not care that he was wrong at all💀💀 some refs are great but a lot are shitty

Damn. That's sad to hear. But like I said, refs never go back on their sh!ty calls, even when they know they're wrong. Which was why I was majorly surprised to see this one did... And so easily too at that.

I know this will be like trying to talk to a wall but 100% officials can and will change calls especially if they have a ass't who had a better angle. I have no idea where you live but I can assure you that I see it often if there is an ass't. When an official is by himself, they are less likely because they called what they believe they saw. Keep in mind that your view, as a fan, is not exactly unbiased.
