Lotta people seem to be pissed at Nick decision to leave Penn State. This is the way I took it, Nick realized that Cael doesn't really care about his (Nick's) personal goals and dreams and when Nick got hurt, Cael threw in the towel on him and just decided to pull the backup up since even Penn State's backups are good enough to be starters at most schools. When you are someone with the potential like Nick, you need people helping you reach your dreams, not hindering you. It makes perfect sense for me why he would want to leave a place where he wasn't cared about enough. Rutgers opened their arms and gave him all the focus and support he needed. Nick may have very well won a NCAA championship at Penn State, but Cael's already got several NCAA champs year after year so you can't really blame him for not solely focusing on Nick. But you can't blame Nick either for wanted to be focused on more and supported more if he knew what the results could be.

Personally, I believe that Nick was home sick and wanted to go home. I have no issue with the kid making his own decisions. Young kids make lots of bad decisions; perhaps he realized Penn State wasn't for him. People blaming Nick's transfer on Cael is just wrong. Since Cael has been the Penn State Head Coach, how many good wrestlers have transferred? In 12 years, I can only think of Nick and Bubba Jenkins. While coaches should have the wrestler's back, the coach also has a team to manage, not just one wrestler. I was at that dual in 2017 when Nick was injured. I believe Nick and his warrior spirit wanted to continue, but Cael had Nick's best interests when he said Nick was not going to continue. Sometimes coaches have to protect athletes from themselves. If Cael was so interested in winning (as it relates to Nick and his winning points), he would have had Nick tape that ankle, limp out at the big tens to qualify for Nationals. Nick is talented enough to beat most wrestlers on one leg. When athletes used to transfer from one school to another, they had to sit out the following year, thus the "red-shirt" could be used. With this being said, Nick was allowed to go home and wrestle for Rutgers the following season, and became the schools' first-ever National Champion. But now, he's left his home. The changes that Nick made is on Nick, not the Penn State or Rutgers coaches!

I'm age 21 and did gymnastics for 14 years. I was bullied growing up (adopted out of Ukraine and raised in farm community). At almost age 17 I was severely beat up by older and bigger guys who told me they just wanted to have fun punching my "gymnast abs." Some guys on the wrestling team heard what happened and asked how they could help. I needed to learn to lift weights for hypertrophy and especially to build up my quads. I had trained my abs since age 4 in gymnastics and worked fucking hard to build strong abs for gymnastics. The wrestlers told me they admired my work ethic and my abdominal development. I started training with them and learned a lot how wrestlers train which is different from how we gymnasts trained. Wrestlers and gymnasts both train for their specific sports. I just learned of Nick Soriano recently and saw some of his training. I love his complete dedication to being his very best. It gave me a new appreciation for elite collegiate athletes. My own goal growing up was competing in gymnastics in college. The night I got beat up they spent over 30 minutes throwing punches to all 4 rows of my abs and obliques. I outlasted them (it got too dark and hot and mosquitos were biting badly). But I determined to add a lot more lean muscle mass and make my abdominal wall rock hard. That derailed my goal for gymnastics. I look at Nick and feel I missed out on putting my all into collegiate gymnastics. Training with high school wrestlers gave me an appreciation for all the hard work great wrestlers put into their sport. I think we bonded over abdominal training but then came to appreciate each other's sports.

Being bullied is tough. My best friend and I were bullied when we were 8 until we were 11. He change school, I stayed. Later on In life, we rekindle, and I have never met anyone as determine and hardworking as he is. I guess the toughest road makes the toughest people. I find it rewarding how life balances itself out.
@anthonywilson1754

@@alextheextreme So very sorry to hear about your situation. I was adopted from Ukraine and raised in rural American community. I was bullied for the way I talked and being in what they called a sissy sport--gymnastics. I was also extremely muscular as a gymnast and have no body fat. I was the boy who did best in fitness tests and some guys were jealous. And I later know they were jealous. The night I took punches I half wondered how well I could take their punches. I was all alone and no one to help me. I made the decision when they told me they were going to have "a lot of fun" working over my "gymnast abs" to just let them do what they came to do. I later got an email from one of the guys who beat me up saying they didn't want to seriously injure me but I took punches so well that they got out of control. He apologized if they seriously hurt me but said he did have fun and thanked me for that. Well thanks a lot right?? I think getting beat up also forced me to find friends who were not gymnasts. It was wrestlers who told me how much the admired my physique. Some of them were big into abs training and we bonded over abdominal training. I came to appreciate wrestling which was a new sport to me. I'm doing okay not being in college. I turned age 21 last October so this year would have been my college senior year. I feel bad about not going back. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate it Alex. Anton

Love this…thank you for taking this 63 year old back to his old HS wrestling days. It was tough but so much fun for me. I wasn’t number one in the state, but did well enough to get my varsity letter in my freshman year and wrestled same class as Nick. Mom was my diet and weight coach and Coach Hall was my wrestling coach. I was never a football or basketball kid, but loved to wrestle with my kid brother and other kids. For me it was less about strength and more about strategy. Wrestling taught me how to be competitive in business over the years. It was a grind while I was doing it, but loved every moment. Sadly, had to drop out when my grades suffered badly. I’ve learned over the years, and seems to play true for Nick as well, a lot of decisions are based around the coach. It appears to me that his coach at Penn State was a bit of a dick, while the Rutgers coach was involved and caring and thats a big reason he went with Rutgers. Small tip from an old fart for all HS wrestlers: watch your opponents hips, not his eyes or anything else. His hips dictate what his next move will be and will help you determine your next move. I wish this guy all the best. Coincidentally, I also reside in NJ these days, but no more wrestling for me…just competitive golf and business😂

@jeffdarnell7942 2 года назад
The obvious problem with Suriano at PSU, was at Bergen, he'd been a 4-Time, undefeated State Champ, and was a big focus of the Staff, the Students, etc. When he went to PSU, he was another wrestler amongst a bunch of the BEST Wrestlers in the Country!! He didn't have the entirety of the Coaching staff and all that he had at Bergen Catholic, and instead of understanding that, and growing as a Man has to do at that age, he blamed it on the Staff, and Teachers at PSU. I know people there, and it's obvious that happened. His feeling something wasn't right or the same, was simply him being a great Wrestler amongst a bunch of the best. He felt he wasn't getting the support, so he transferred. Looking back, it's fairly obvious that Suriano is ALL about Suriano, and that's pretty much it. After going to Rutgers, he said he felt comfortable there...it's just right there for him. He's a Jersey Boy, and it's a Jersey School. I reckon that he no longer feels like a "Jersey" boy anymore. Why he went to MICHIGAN, I have no idea. I'm a Southern Man, grew up in Tennessee. But I have ALOT of family in Connecticut, New Jersey, Ohio, and Illinois. I love football, but my passion is wrestling. I watch the Big 10 Network ALOT, because it's the home of College Wrestling. I love College Wrestling. I really wish Suriano would had moved to Iowa. We had a PERFECT place for him. And that's 141. He could have trained, and been allowed to eat on occasion. But, whatever..Go Hawkeyes...

I've heard that a lot Ronnie I suppose you are right lot of his goal set, mindset, and also to try to be the best.. Ailments and injury is part of wrestling that's why I couldn't continue in College,.. or kind of didn't want to continue in college because my body wrestled many years, & and no I couldn't compete at my next level the way I wanted to..

The only thing that sucks about HS and college wrestling is there is nothing to do around the sport post college. For example, Cam Newton after playing for Auburn can go on to the NFL and make $22M or a whole lot more. Certain sports just dont lend themselves to that.
