Beautiful build -you’ve finally solved the lack of sleeping space in Class Bs while also creating a functional work space up front. But, of all of the chassis in the world, why the heck would you choose a Ram? I’d love this build on a Sprinter. (And Ford people would likely love it on a Transit.)
Westfalia came back to the US with a Promaster? Of the 3 major chassis choices available in America, they had to choose the worst (cheapest) one? A FWD van with a low terrain dragging rear beam. I'm sorry, and I liked my cousin's Vanagon Westfalia. But I hope they will bring more chassis choices down the line.
Owning a classic Vanagon Westfalia c1987, with original paint & body for the most part, I'd think twice about "upgrading" to an American (Dodge Ram) chassis. If you see any Dodge Sprinter vans around, from the days when M-B diesels were installed, the body is often rusty. Who knows if the underpinning frame is also rusting away. What will Westfalia do to ensure body i.e. paint & chassis integrity for the long term? What will be the warranty period on the body panels?
I'm buying a class B really soon and after listening to these comments it doesn't really make sense to not buy this. It checks off a lot of boxes for me. I have a $12,000 e-bike that cannot stay on the outside and it looks like we could fit it inside two other sleeping options. And you probably don't have to throw away that extra cushion it could be used for something else. And if rust is a concern you can go to your local auto parts store and get a few cans of this black tar type spray which not only helps with sound dedening but it protects the metal from the elements and that's a simple fix, could be done by the owner in 20 minutes. Also the kitchen can probably be configured in a way if you don't like the hot plates like myself . Can always cut a hole and put in the Dometic DS1 dual burner. I think I may be the first one to buy this unit because there is a dealership that I'm working with , Sunshine RVs because I trust them 100%. I know they stand behind their product and will do everything they can if a situation arises that's unexpected, that's why you buy from a dealership and not some private build where you don't know if the company will be in business before their offered warranty is up, I found there's no perfect class B anywhere on the planet but this one here really checks off a lot of boxes right down to my favorite color paint. Also yes the old Dodges can quality issues but they really come a long way in addressing them, I recently met a lady at the supermarket that has a newer model and she said it's the most comfortable vehicle she's ever owned, better than a luxury sedan. Dodge parts are not expensive and they're easy to get and I'm going to stop rambling now but I really love this Westy, and they'll be arriving in about the time my house will be sold and I'd be ready to pull the switch. I really wish I could see one up close. Because pictures and video do not do Justice , every motorhome is 10 times better in person.. best of luck to this company and bringing back the Westie was the best idea ever !
