Why put a turbo so can blow the engine quicker they need to stick with v8 and diesel

​@@tguy4257 Probably 90% of pickup truck buyers never use their truck to do anything other than go to the mall and pick up a little bit of stuff at Home Depot. As long as they built the internals strong enough it'll hold up just fine. Now whether I believe that or not coming from a GM product I don't know. Although one positive of going with the four cylinder is you are able to get away from their disastrous active fuel management system. Which in the v8s you don't have a choice about. Except maybe in the 6.2? I don't know for sure. But that AFM system is a nightmare and is almost guaranteed to wreck your engine before 100k. So you actually might be better off with the four cylinder unless you absolutely need the power on a regular basis.

@@bmutsch84 I think that's the biggest problem with the four-cylinder engine. You really don't gain much efficiency. One advantage I can think of is that it doesn't have that terrible AFM system though. On the 5.3 you don't have a choice it comes with the AFM system. And they are very very problematic and very expensive to repair when it goes wrong. My friends got a 2016 1500. It's never been used or abused for heavy loads. Engine blew up at 60K, AFM system had failed dumped a bunch of metallic debris through the engine and destroyed it. If I didn't need to tow heavy loads. I might pick the four cylinder just to get away from having that system in the truck. You can have it removed and tuned for removal. But you got to pull the intake manifold and the cylinder heads to get those AFM lifters out.

Ecu troubles after 40k. Any time its hot out it throws a code.

One never buys a truck with anything less than six cylinders in it. Preferably inline not VVT garbage, No Fuel Management junk, no stop start. Just a 6 or 8 cylinder engine. no need for the extra nonsense that cost too much to repair. Let's take back America and build truck we want again.

That's cute but no one but Toyota builds a solid reliable V8 gasser anymore and that thing got 17mpg highway if you babied it. Any reliable V8 nowadays is hooked to a garbage transmission just like the turbo engines are.

Durability and turbo charged don’t go hand in hand, unless we’re talking Big Diesel. This is a lifelong maintenance trap. I’ll stick to GMT-400 and GMT-800s, thanks.

I have the 2023 Chevy Silverado Custom and the turbo actuator/ wastegate already failed at 5914 miles and I had the truck for 2 months. Currently been at Chevy dealership for 36 days now 😢. For what I’ve gathered so far the actuator/wastegate is notorious for giving out. The dealer is only fixing the actuator but I’m sure the turbo will give out soon after

You don't put a force cylinder in a full size truck truck is for work hawling and pulling be able to go anywhere pull anything. Help mountains high altitude a lot burn up.

Pile of shit. You can't do what a big 6 or 8 can do with a 4. IDC how you try to turbo it. It totally compromises durability. Don't buy them and don't buy that EV junk either. There are plenty of other manufacturers still making decent trucks with V8s buy a gently used one. We're not doing EVs and four bangers.
