Heat does not disappear. That refrigerator will dump the collected heat somewhere. Hope that is not the cabin 😆 🤣

I mean the heat does go into the cabin since that's how fridges work, but then that heat will easily get expelled by Teslas AC system. It's no issue.

I agree with some of your pros for the device. Design and fit is nice as well. I don't like another powered product zapping energy from the 12v/16v battery. TEMAI or maybe it's another company also makes a smaller one that fits in the back where the OBD2 spot is. Good enough for a few cans of soda or water. But if I'm being honest I think I could just get away with a large cooler and ice in the sub trunk or one of the new insulated bags I've seen for the frunk. Those don't use any power and Ice is cheap.

I have been camping in my Tesla for 6 years in model x. In moderate sun the temp in the drunk would hit 120-130F in summer.. so forget about using a fridge in there unless you want the compressor to die an early death.

I wonder if the next generation will have a channel or tube to circulate air from the bottom back up to the compressor. additionally they could design the tray to have a gap for a wine bottle or make it reversible for different size items.

Got ver. 2 today … no tube or altered tray. And no long screws or screwdriver included. Uses a different type of fastener (x2) make installing easier.

It would be interesting to see how well it works when in the sun. Cooling capacity when full/half full etc. Also how much the car temperature changes while cooling. But I guess it kinda works better with Tesla anyways, as they have the cabin overheat protection. But does that 12V stay active while the car is parked?

For $500 you can buy a lot of drinks at filling stations or other shops you’ll drive by. It’s not that you are going to have a roadtrip in a desert where you can’t buy drinks.

All 12v outlets in a Tesla uses it’s own 12v battery, they are not connected to the main battery. The fridge will significantly short the 12V battery life. And for heat exchange, heat has to go somewhere, it will damage the fridge very soon if trapped inside of its cooling unit.

I bought a 20 quart off of Amazon for 217 bucks. It sits in the bottom compartment in the back of the hatch and shaped like an igloo and very quite. I use it when I go on trips. It’s not as pretty as this unit but gets the job done!😊

This refrigerator doesn’t use that much energy. It’s only 45w motor and it should use about 0.5 kWh/day with regular refrigerator temperature. As for the heat from the refrigerator, as I mentioned it only has 45w unit so it didn’t produce that much to keep temperature inside cool. @@dadstoyscars I think that if you would measure the temp top and bottom that for the majority of time the bottom will be cooler. The compressor is not all the time on and producing cold air. When the compressor is not on the cold air will drop to the bottom and war air will rise to the top

@@bartdeking agree, if there is nothing on the top part of the refrigerator. If you put soda cans on the top part then soda cans will be colder and they are at the same time blocking some of the cold air being produced from top compressor to bottom part which makes bottom less cold.

Great video as usual. On all of those ref's, they all say only for 5 seaters. Are the subtrunk on a 3 row different in size/shape? I can understand that u will not have access to it if the seats are up, but for folks who only use the sparingly, a bummer

I have a 7 seater and I can't see any difference in the size of that left cubby between the video and my car. The 12v socket seems to be in the same place and the 3rd row (when put up) doesn't block the cubby, either. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't fit but I'm sure there is a reason they mentioned 5 seater only. I've been searching around and I can't find anywhere WHY it doesn't work in the 7 seater. I'm not going to spend hundreds of dollars just to test it out, though.

Great point! You will have to uninstall it. As you can see in the video. It took me 15 mins to install so uninstalling this fridge won’t take long at all. This refrigerator compressor is only 45W I shouldn’t use that much power from the battery. It’s all depend on how cold you set it. The colder you set the more the compressor works. @@XX-166 You only turn it on when you need to use it. If I would be on a vacation then it won’t be on and won’t drain any power or to be sure I can easily remove it from the car. It’s not a permanent installation at all. I can install and uninstall in 15 mins.

Great for road trips or camping to have a place to keep things cool but if I had this refrigerator installed in my car, I would leave it off like 95% of the time and only use it when i am going on road trips.

Does anyone know if this fridge fits in the 7 Seater model Y trunk? One specific vendor I saw said the 7 seater and 5 seater models may have different dimensions, so their fridge wouldn't fit the 7 seater.. but other vendors don't mention anything, so I wanted to double check @dadstoyscars
