Great video guys. Los Alamos is such a unique town, great for the right person but not for everyone. We like it but prefer Santa Fe when we retire in a few years. Have you done any videos on the pros and cons of new construction vs existing homes? It can be hard to find the right place so we've looked at new construction but it seems there could be hidden costs and pitfalls we don't know about. Your videos are always so informative, please keep them coming!

Thanks Nathan! Appreciate you watching. We've never done a pros and cons for new construction, but we should! We've been having good luck connecting our buyer clients with new construction options. The builders have been offering us incentives on financing that makes it an attractive move right now. With the limited inventory on the re-sale market, new construction can give you peace of mind that you have a home reserved and it's going to be brand new. There are some pitfalls.... I'll start working on a script for a video. We had to take a little break from RU-vid for a bit, my brother Benjamin nearly lost his daughter to illness back in December. But she's recovering, and we're back in the studio working on lots of new content.

Are the locals friendly? I mean to others moving into the area for work who arent from there

There’s a good number of us locals living in Santa Fe that are friendly. Santa Fe is a tourist town after all, it’s been that way for a long time. If you want to be successful in business and in life, you have to learn to take care of other people no matter where they come from. But there’s others that would prefer to put a border around Santa Fe and not let anyone in! Selfishly of course, they want to keep a good thing to themselves and they don’t want Santa Fe to change. And then theres your typical A-hole types that would be unfriendly no matter where they were dropped on the planet! 🌎 It’s a mix! Theres so many people relocating to Santa Fe, especially people taking jobs at LANL. You’ll find plenty of people who are in the same situation as you, and lots of our clients who have relocated are loving it. If you go back and look at it historically, people have been coming to Santa Fe for the same reasons for the last 400 years! The weather, the climate, the culture, the food, the history. If you run into an occasional jerk, just have to smile, shake your head and move on with your day. There’s too much to love and life is too short to let idiots ruin it for you.

Espanola is a city all on its own. Yes, it’s only 45 minutes away. But I don’t believe mentioning this is warranted. Albuquerque is also 45 minutes away… buts it’s all on its own. We’re not encouraging anybody to buy a home in Espanola. Our market is Santa Fe proper. But you know what? The intense hiring spree at Los Alamos laboratory is causing a real estate revolution in Espanola. Undervalued properties have been selling at a premium. Does Espanola have reputation? Perhaps. But it’s up and coming. If the labs keeps hiring the way they plan to… Espanola real estate is going to Boom!

You definitely need to specialize in Santa Fe. There are opportunities here, but it’s not easy. If you go to a city like Albuquerque with millions of people, sure, there may be more job opportunities and career paths to choose from… but then you have to live in Albuquerque. I don’t accept the generalization that there’s no jobs in Santa Fe. There are lucrative opportunities. But we need to specialize and be exceptional at what we choose to do to make it. It’s not for everybody. And it’s not easy. But it’s worth it.
