Love this review! My husband and I will be moving to Santa Fe this weekend from Texas. We will be there for 2 years for his job. Can’t wait to experience the cuisine and art there! 🤗

Yay! Thank you! Welcome to Santa Fe! I'll be making more videos on living here if you want to check them out in the future :) Quick places to go: For coffee: Iconic, Collected Works, Betterday Coffee. For Local Brews and Food: Second street brewery, Santa Fe Brewing (the smaller one on Galisteo St. has an amazing burger food truck!) For Karaoke haha: Boxcar on Wednesday evenings. Art is everywhere! Downtown galleries and museums. Get a library card and you can get free passes to most of these museums and galleries. Off the beaten path: Check out the towns of Madrid and Cerrillos (Blackbird Saloon in Cerrillos) For nice cocktails and atmosphere: La Reina bar and Loretto Lounge in downtown. There are so many other places but these are just some of my favorite!

My husband and I lived in Santa Fe for three years before our elderly mothers needed us and couldn’t handle the high altitude. In my opinion, northern New Mexico is so much more beautiful than southern. Just up the road is Pecos where the Pecos River runs through the Santa Fe National Forest. During the summer, it feels at least 10° cooler in Pecos, and you just can’t beat the beauty of it. I miss Santa Fe and hope to get back some day.

Hi Nora, thanks for sharing your insights! I moved to Santa Fe from LA in September 2017 and am so happy I did. It's been amazing for my business and I'm loving the nature so much. I hear lots of people say that Santa Fe started with the Spanish, its good to remember that before the Spanish, the indigenous people were here.

I was drawn to NM, ABQ and I'm coming into four years now. I suppose I was drawn here by the growing film industry having worked in LA, Nashville and Atlanta in the film industries, both above and below the line. Currently we're going through a tortious heat wave. There is no way I'd be on set with this. I've been employed now as an educator for MS in Tijeras, and I love it. I've looked into relocating to Santa Fe, but it's becoming unaffordable. A faculty friend of mine from calarts Susan Rothenberg and her husband, (talking artworld elites here) set up their studios near Galisto. Sadly, Susan has passed. Just to say, there is something about New Mexico that has always attracted creatives. And, living here it's easy to understand why. Thank you for your truthful assessment about ABQ and Santa Fe, and hope you find happiness there!

young person born and raised in santa fe here!! sf is my hometown and i love this place, but you were spot on about the young people/dating scene. it's really tough to meet other young people here, and borderline impossible to date, especially if you're not really interested in hookup culture!! also, spot on about the nightlife - bars seem to close around 9 or 10, and unless there's a specific event happening, town shuts down completely around 9pm every night! that being said, it's a wonderful city full of art, food, and culture, and i love love love coming home to visit.

Juneau Alaska is also expensive and unique in its own way. We are a small town with about 30k people and we are landlocked (meaning, we are not connected by road and the only way in is by plane or ferry). With this, housing is very tight and competitive. The great thing is that jobs pay well and you can make a decent living.

While I can't see us moving there, mostly due to kids and potential grandkids, I am going to check into possible monthly rentals. Currently we have to cross the plains to get out west and it's pretty prohibitive on how often we do it.

Dating is close to impossible in Santa Fe if you are selective. I don't even try. And, I'm so bored. I also hate the months and months of freezing cold weather. I am trying to get out of NM (again...been brought to it 3 times...lived in ABQ previously and had my home burglarized...also lived way out in Pojoaque) but I am having a hard time finding a good job out of state. Santa Fe is safer than Albuquerque. Has better restaurants, smaller city. The Downtown is cooler. Closer to better skiing. My smaller town is similar to Santa Fe south of Albuquerque. You have too carry in Albuquerque, they have out of control criminals. Otherwise it is not a bad city. Entertainment is complicated out here. I was in southern Utah in June , middle of nowhere, for most people. Stumbled into Jimmy Buffet doing a concert that night in a field out there. Super cool, I spent five minutes talking to Jimmy while we waited at the outdoor coffee shop. Premo coffee too. People were driving in from Salt Lake City all day. A couple weeks later he was gone on to the Happy Music Stage in the sky. RIP to a guy we could all love. Mountain West has always been a cool spot running into cool but well known people. Don't make a big deal out of it. They are not here for bullcrap but to enjoy life same as everyone else here. Have a coffee in the morning and sometimes a beer at night. Lots of backyard fire pits and they get used with friends and relatives, nights are crystal clear and you can see the stars. I have had great experiences in Santa Fe getting aquainted with some of the peope that show their wares for sale on the Palace of the Governors sidewalk. I visited them over the years and got to know some wonderful people that live in the Reservation communities. Been invited to dances, feasts and to visit. Went and met more good people made more friends. Be a friend and you will make plenty in New Mexico.

I’d hesitate to recommend that people move here and expect to be able to make enough money to pay rent working in the service industry. I’ve been living and working in Santa Fe service industry for two years just barely scraping by financially, and I live in a camper so my rent is cheaper than average. There’s a plethora of low paying service industry jobs in Santa Fe, and those are the ones that employers complain they can’t find enough workers for.

Ahhhh, Santa Fe. “ the city different!” It’s called that for a reason. It, and northern NM is different than the NM below Albuquerque part. Even the food is/ has got a different twang to it. ( your red Chile is a darker red than lower NM. Kind of a bitter taste) But that’s northern NM. Terrain and geography is much different also. Have lived in Albuquerque since 1958 ( except for 4 years in the service) and have never quite gotten used to Santa Fe people. Definitely two classes of people. Wealthy and snobbish then the rest of you. BIG distinction. The weather IS much cooler there and is much more wet. They also get more snow ( higher elevation there) plus all up north. It’s expensive to live in Santa Fe. Always has been, I’m guessing always will be. Many celebrities live in northern Santa Fe proper. Housing is tight everywhere, not just Abq, or SF. Just remember, two classes of people. Not a bad or good thing. It just is.

The beer, people are so nice and the weather to name just a few. But! housing is very competitive...ABQ these days has higher rent but more housing, more traffic, more homeless/crime, more of a traditional nightlife, and more restaurants and businesses have opened up. Santa Fe reminds of a much better Boulder, lol. Very historic, diverse, the food and beer is amazing, cheaper, still has its unique industries, etc. I'll be making more videos on living here! 😉

The Policemen from Santa Fe commute to Rio Rancho NM due to the lower price of housing in RR compared to higher home prices in SF . Let me ask you a question ? In SF do you get the TV stations from Albuquerque transmitters or does SF have their own stations? It seems like the weather is slightly cooler there as compared to Rio Rancho.

The only people who can really afford to live in Santa Fe comfortably, are Los Alamos Lab staffers, and wealthy old money families. There are two very distinct societies: the people who live to serve the wealthy, and the wealthy who enjoy being served.

I am planning on moving to NM, AZ, or CA this year. I cannot stand Chicago (and haven't for years). Thanks for NOT deterring viewers with BGM. I think I will love it there. Too many alternative punks (goths, especially). Lots of rude people. It's not what other YT videos depict it as. I hate all the shit, that was done since the 90s. Downtown has been expanded, further south. All kinds of new shit just popped up. The traffic really grew, and so did the number of punks, nerds, and losers. I want to get away from all that (and the southwest is where I want to go). I want to neutralize my accent (working on that right now). I don't want any of my past, or current life, with me. That's how a move should be.

Albuquerque WOULD be nice place to live if it cleaned its act up. It used to be a great place to live a long time ago. It has nice weather (although a bit hot in summer but no as hot as AZ cities), hiking, good food, less traffic. But it's gotten run down and crime/drug ridden.
@davec5312
@davec5312 Год назад
@@Wft-bu5zc I can't deny the issues Albuquerque faces with crime, drugs and alcohol but what I can say is that if you don't run in with those crowds, the people of Albuquerque are some of the most down to earth, laid back and friendly people. As for the cleanliness of the city, it doesn't seem to bad, the fact that it's not so manicured makes it feel less like you're around keeping up with the Jones's and less liky to deal with snobby people. I'm all to familiar with that mindset here in Utah and it feels superficial. We'd elevate our lifestyle in terms of an even cost trade off for what we have here in a less then ideal neighborhood here to say the la cueva school district in the "affluent" part of town. Not that it's about that but if we're talking about avoiding crime and setting our kids off on the right track, it would be ideal. Plus we'd be happier with the summers there. Here, we hit over 100 degree weather for 3 weeks every summer. In Albuquerque, that happens maybe only a handful of times. It's not ad extreme there, the summers are just longer which on paper makes it seem as if it's hotter.
