Just reserved my 2nd TRD. Had a deer total my former TRD & although the engine was pushed back 2' from the impact, no injuries due to airbags. This will be my 6th Toyota purchase cuz I love em! Have owned 3 Tacomas, 1 Corolla, & now 2 TRDs. Expensive over other vehicles but would never buy another SUV! Have even slept in the back of my TRDs repeatedly during long road trips. If you are looking for a great all round vehicle-pull the trigger & get one. And no, I am not paid to write this comment!
It doesn’t need this or it doesn’t need that. If you want better gas mileage, want a turbo, the latest tech… this vehicle is not for you. The T4R is one of the best vehicles ever made. Perfection!
Cant agree more. People who complain about this vehicle are similar to people who complain that a restaurant doesnt serve vegan burgers. People buy 4runners for its capability and reliability!
You are totally amazing and thank you so much. I was hesitating to purchase one, and you totally convinced me to thank you for being brutally, honest and covering all the questions i would’ve had thank you for doing these videos
Get the TRD Off Road Premium if you can. It's a much better bang for the buck. You get 98% of what the Pro has and at a lower cost. Unless unique paint, heated steering wheel, upgraded suspension really are that important to you, don't go with the PRO. Oh, and you'll find it very much worth the $300 it cost to install a Pedal Commander. It will take you 10 minutes to install, it's plug and play, and it will give you a significant improvement in pedal response. It will make the vehicle feel like it actually has some power under the hood and it's fully adjustable to how much added response you want. It was the first modification I did to my 4R. Peace.
@@mxaexmgot mine last Tuesday. Reserved it online from my local dealership December 15th. Solar octane, and dealer checked every box on the options list, so that was a plus. Paid $6K over MSRP. Traded in my 2019 Sequoia Limited.
@@mxaexmhey I bought this exact one 3 weeks ago. Funny story I was going to look at a bronco & the ford dealership called on my way there saying the one I was wanting was a custom order for a costumer. I called my local Toyota dealer & they had this trd pro so I went & bought it asap. 60k
I love my TRD off road. Anecdotally, for such a masculine looking truck, where I live, 60% of 4R drivers are women. Just what I’ve noticed. I guess they’ve got great taste
Love the look of both this Forerunner TRD Pro and the Sequoia TRD Pro. Just wish they included Auto, in addition to the 2H, 4H and 4L. I'd get the all black of either, but that red sure does look sharp, very tempting. And if available I'd get a black headliner on the inside instead of what you see in this video. In any case, thanks for another solid review. Worth the watch!
I’m on the wait list for one. Would definitely consider a TRD Off Road Premium (lunar rock) as well. I would be happy with either one of them. Great video.
I was was in the same boat. On the waiting list for both. TRD OR Lunar Rock came in first (shows up end Feb), going with that primarily due to KDSS. BTW, just sold my 2022 Sequoia TRD Pro because the Fox Shocks are nothing but trouble in the Canadian cold. Don't want to have to keep replacing them every 15000-25000kms. Don't know why Toyota insists on the Fox shocks for the Canadian models.
My future 4Runner TRD Pro in Solar Octane is getting loaded on the ship today. I only had to wait 6 days for my dealer to get it allocated it (at msrp). Hopefully the Fox shocks won’t give me much trouble .
@@mxaexm Congrats. Just remember that the Fox shocks need to be rebuilt every 50k miles (for street use) and every 10k miles for street/offroad use. Most mildly offroaded (dirt /gravel / fire) roads 4Runners are getting 20-25k miles prior to needing a rebuild.
You see the reason why the sales of these 5th gen 4runners have been really high over the last few years is because people know when Toyota redesigns it, they are gonna screw it up. Just like they did with the Tundra and Tacoma. People complain about the 5speed in the4runner but when they introduced the 6speed in the Tacoma all it did was hunt for gears. Rumored for the 6th 4Runner is a 4cylinder turbo and hybrid system. No v6. So this will pretty much be the last time you can grab a v6 4x4 4runner. All Toyota is catering to now is people who want a big touch screen radio that they can play Angry Birds on.
1GR-FE is such a good engine, was first available here in Australia 2003 to 2015 in 120 and 150 series prados. I have a new v8 landcruiser but I enjoy driving my 2007 prado more.
The only thing the PRO offers that I want on my 2024 ORP is dual zone climate control. The stereo would be nice, but not needed. The exhaust is annoying. Everything else is bolt on, including the suspension. They do look better than the other models.
I traded in my 19 TRD pro because the fox shocks and struts would fail every year. Two rear shocks and three times on the front struts. I ended up getting the 40th anniversary like the other models they only come with toyota made suspension. When the FOXs start to fail you can always upgrade to another brand as part of a lift.
Almost all features other gas mileage is fantastic. Just one Q. Does the TRD Pro come with regular exhaust? Or it always come with stock loud noisy exhaust?
Was going to order a new Chevy Colorado zr2 but then i thought, for about the same money, i could get the trd pro. Tried and true. Reliable as F. Sexy. Yeah, shes a bit dated but these things will go for 300 thousand miles. Expensive. Yes. But it is proven to last. Who knows how the zr2 or even the new design 4 runner will hold up. I'm leaning more towards getting a 23 or 24 4 runner. The more electronics there are, the higher the risk. Simple can be better.
The only downside to this vehicle is if you are quite tall and have the sunroof option you may have to recline your chair back quite a bit to get appropriate headroom.
Great trucks, i have a 22 sr5 4wd. They are solid built for sure. But the sr5 models suffer from terrible resale value when you trade it in. Tried to trade my 22 sr5 on a trd 4runner and they only would give me $32,000. Did not realize at less than 8 months old and only 4,000 miles on it that they have such terrible resale value.
What more do you need? Toyota is making a killing because people overpay for something they don't need or ever use. The SR5 and TRD Off-Road is the only 2 options to consider. The rest are fluff. $15K mark up for a TRD is crazy. It's nothing new really. Civic Type R is demanding upwards of $20K over the $43K price tag.
As a 2023 4Runner TRD Pro owner, it does have remote start. Use the Toyota App OR key fob - press the lock button twice and hold for the 3rd for 5 seconds. I have the 4Runner from Canada. Not sure for US models.
Honestly they could keep how it looks like on the outside. They just need to update the engine and interior to be more modern. Give us a turbo 6 please.
Tundras already having recalls on the new turbo hybrid motors and you want it in the 4Runner? Ill take reliability any day of the week. If its not broke don’t fix it
Toyota 4runner with better mileage, wider wheel tracks, new interior designs like steering wheel, dashboard etc. I, hope the next gen comes with the above mentioned specs.
Ok, come on man, let's be completely honest. First, you get 98% of the features on the Pro, as you get with the Premium at a lower cost. You don't get the "special" paint, you don't get the loud exhaust (which most people find undesirable anyway) and you don't get the upgraded suspension, or the heated steering wheel. That's about it. There might be one or two odds and ends, but the TRD Off Road Premium is about as close as you can get to the Pro without paying Pro prices. Bang for the buck...the Premium is the better deal. Lastly, again, in the name of being honest, 4R's are dogs when it comes to their powertrains, and extremely thirsty ones, at that. They are horribly underpowered, embarrassingly so, and anyone who knows anything about 4Rs knows that fact. I have a 4R, I love it, I would never want to give it up, but it's a dog in the power category, ok? There's just no other way to say it. Throw a pedal commander on it, so you get better response and then be happy with it, but accept the fact that that motor is the proverbial 110 lb weakling, ok? It will last you a lifetime, but it's not going to win any races at the track LOL. Peace.
I agree for the most part, but in my opinion it doesn’t need a powerful engine because it’s designed for off road and the more hp is added the more fuel it will take unless you’re ok with Turbos. I believe turbos will give you issues down the line especially if you go extreme off roading.
Im tires of the 4Runner look, its getting dated no matter what trim it is, you can tell really fast when its next to newer cars. Toyota is playing too much not updating such a great vehicle 😕
The thing that makes it great is that it hasnt been updated, and sales have exploded in the last 5 years. It seems people want it more than ever, 150,000+ units every year now. Why would toyota want to change that moneymaker?
@@Hobinator17 2 years ago I would agree but its showing its age now. They would sell much more if it would be updated. People are just buying it right now bc this is all they can but, but with a new style they would buy that one
@@Hobinator17 true i bought one because of the older tough suv look and reliability. All people care about now is about how big their headunit screen is
Had the similar drivetrain in my Tacoma. It is underpowered, drinks too much fuel, transmission constantly hunts up and down on freeway drives. Once they put a modern drivetrain in these it "might" be worth the stupid price "overlanders" are willing to pay for 15 year-old technology. Hard pass. Perfect vehicle to tart up with a roof tent and to take to the local park for your Instagram followers ;-)
I've heard so much bad about the tacoma 6 spd and cant speak on it but the 5 spd is super predictable and shifts smooth. Engine power is adequate, 93 octane improves responsiveness quite a bit. The reliability speaks for itself, you don't buy these for tech or good mpg
If you live in a city with horrendous potholes and love outdoor weekend mountain adventures, this is the vehicle. Same can be said with a sports car though. I love mine because its 4adventure
