Solid review. I traded in my old E90 M3 when I bought my 2013 BRZ and rarely thought anything of it. I loved the lightweight feel, the ability to really drive it every day, and the idea of a sports car that still got decent gas mileage. It even got me back into autocross. I got my '22 BRZ as soon after waiting 6-months after my order (and under MSRP; don't pay mark up) and love all the improvements they've made with this gen. The torque dip of yesteryear is far less noticeable but still slightly present. It makes a huge difference in the low-end and I don't feel as if one must thrash the car to get into the power band.

Just a fyi, the new 2nd gen actually makes ~215 wheel horsepower & ~175 wheel torque (based on the average dyno tests that many stock owners have done). So that translates to ~250hp (instead of 228) & ~190lbstq (instead of 184). Also, the max torque kicks in at a way lower rpm than 1st gen’s (3,700rpm vs 6,400rpms).
@Bushwackerinpa

not to mention the old one stock would dyno at like 160hp at the wheel. IE the old was overrated and new is underrated.

I agree with everything you said up to the end and one glaring omission. Look closely at the base model. While the price increase to the Premium is not great, the main difference is the wheels. Many buyers will be buying a second set of wheels so they can drive it in the winter. You might as well go with the Base and buy 18 inch wheels with summer tires. The omission is the Subaru BRZ which is basically the same car with a few of the things you said you had to pay extra already included, tuning more appropriate for the streets instead of the track, and a better looking front end (in my opinion). The BRZ can often be found for MSRP while the Toyota is selling over MSRP.

Love cars that can be driven at 5, 6 and even 7 and don't feel like you're breaking any laws. It really is more fun to drive a "slower" car faster. There are SUVs that puts out 2x/3x the power, which to me is excessive. I mean, when are you really going to use that much power? Yeah, I've seen those along with high powered sedans, muscle cars being driven pedal to the metal at stop lights, dangerous street and highway racing. Sure, buy what you want, it's your money. But, wish people are considerate of others, safety in particular.
