I go over my likes and dislikes about my 2023 Toyota Tacoma 4WD 2.7L 4cyl SR Access Cab truck. What would I change and do I have any regrets?

Thank you for taking the time to give your reviews Rick. I just reserved one of the last sr access cab 4x4s I could find being delivered to Wisconsin before the turbos started. I’m confident I’ll be happy after watching your comprehensive reviews directed towards the frugal simple man that just wants reliability. Excellent work with the video’s.

I'm glad my videos have helped! To me, it's a fun truck to drive, not a racecar, and very reliable. I took it through a lot of different conditions (except snow and ice) and it came through beyond my expectations. Good luck with your new truck and thanks for watching. Cheers!

Not a fan of turbos for the new generation Tacoma and I know for damn sure Toyota isn’t new to turbos and performance vehicles, but for any forced induction engines reliability takes a toll. Naturally aspirated will win long term. And this 2.7 has been proven for over 20 years now and it’s by far Toyotas most reliable for its midsize. If I ever wanted anything bigger I’d go for a 5.7 Tundra, I’m also not a fan of the newer tundras. This one will always be a keeper! Great review man!

Lucked out and got one of the last new 23's on the lot for $31K last month. Near identical to yours, mine's the 4cyl Taco SR 4x4 acess cab utility package. Dark grey, 6ft bed. Absolutely love this truck and quite surprised it's more loaded with features and comfort than one would expect for an entry level model. The ECT power helps getting up steep hills, so I'm content holding on to this truck literally for the rest of my life. I will go all out taking care of that 4cyl engine. Primarily for me it will be regular driving, with an occasional carrying light DIY loads from Home Depot at the most or heading out to the park/beach with my gear!

I bought a new 22 Tacoma Sr access cab 4x4 black , exact same truck as yours. Bought mine without jump seats in back, and I took the predator tube steps off they just get in the way. This setup is time tested to last. I wanted the 2.7 4 banger. before they stop putting them in Tacomas. Time tested regular oil changes, truck will probably outlive me 😮. Take care of that truck it will last.a long time. No race truck but plenty good for me. Reliability is more important.......... Peace......

30k seems like plenty with just rear seats and 4WD. Good trucks. Power seems a bit much for slider window. If double cab is under 32k, could be worth it. 33k with 4WD. I’ve seen new SR-5 under that after negotiations.

The 2.7 is a brute. Don't let the listed HP rating fool you. My 2018 SR is a joy to me. My list of modifications to make the truck mine is well over 30. They were all fun to install too. The mods available for 3rd gens are almost endless. I average around 24-26 MPG. I use full synthetic oil and change it between 5000-6000 miles and believe it improves MPG. I bought a fog light kit and installed it myself, took about an hour.

I have a 2021 4 door 4x2 with the short bed and 2.7 I haul a 6x12 cargo trailer occasionally and have driven to New York, Pennsylvania, florida, Tennessee and North Carolina from the Georgia/South Carolina border no issues at all. I’ve carried a 900 lb round bale of hay in the bed. I rarely pass 3000 rpm. If I have issues getting up to speed I just use ect. The reputation of the 2.7 is amazing and the entire reason I purchased the truck. Plus I got it for 30.000 in the summer of 21 during the shortages. The only thing I’d change is I’d love to have the long bed with the four doors but it’s not an option. My dealer also offered a lifetime powertrain warranty as long as I own the vehicle. This is my first new vehicle also. Ive never been able to justify the price but in 2021 this Tacoma was cheaper then almost any used ones I could find. I’ve had a t100 sr5 with the v6 and had leaks but ran it to 500,000 miles.
@hillbillyrickoutdoors5208
@hillbillyrickoutdoors5208 9 месяцев назад
That's awesome and thanks for sharing. It's a stronger truck then most people believe for sure. I was looking for a 4WD truck and I was actually surprised how much cheaper this truck was compared to a Chevy, Ford, and Nissan. At least the one I got. Another selling point that made me pull the trigger and buy this truck was ot has a high resale value. So i felt good that if for some reason i didn't like it i could get most if not all my money back if i sold. After a year I'm not selling lol. Thanks for watching!

@@hillbillyrickoutdoors5208 I was concerned about my truck not being a 4x4 but I don’t off-road allot but when I have I have been surprised at how well the truck handles. I haven’t felt even close to getting in a situation I couldn’t get out of. At the time that I purchased the truck I didn’t think Toyota offered the 4 four door with the 2.7 and 4x4. The 4 doors were a definite must have for me. I had a dodge 5.7 4x4 double cab before this truck and it had significantly more room and towing power but I also had repairs on a regular basis that were extremely expensive and a common inconvenience which I don’t think I’ll have with this truck.

We are very similar as I had a Ram 5.7 as well but it was a 4x2. It was a great truck for me but a bunch of little stuff always broke or quit working. To be honest I didn't really need the 4wd as well but I never owned a vehicle with one and thought it may become useful on my property if needed.

I recently paid $31.5k for a '23 SR 2.7L 4x4 Access cab utility package in Denver. There were only a handful of them allocated to the dealers around here, everything else is V6 double cab in this area. I do not need rear seats or speakers, and will be replacing the front and rear bumpers anyways, so the utility package worked great for me. This engine has plenty of power, and is not afraid to be run hard at high revs. Classic bomb-proof Yota engine that will probably hold value over the 3.5L V6 models in the long run.

Have an Overland Tailor Tune installed. It Increases Your horsepower, torque and 2mpg better fuel economy. The install a K&N cold air intake. (If a Cold air intake is illegal in your state, simply install in a K&N air filter. Then contact FlowMaster for their FlowFX exhaust system . These mods will also increase your power, torque and mpg. Your 2.7L engine will last well over 1/2 million miles as long as you change your oil and filter Every 5K miles. Toyota says to change the oil every 10K miles, but that’s so your engine will wear out faster. I personally use Valvoline 0W-20, (which is recommended), Full Synthetic Oil. Change your front and rear differential, transfer case and transmission fluid every 60K miles. Drain and add antifreeze every 3 years, or 36K miles. When I sold my last Toyota it had over 300K miles. It was the 3.5L V6 like is in my 23 Tacoma. I bought my first Toyota when I was 18 and drove it for 24 years. It had 488K miles on it when it dropped dead in 02 and when I was 18, I pushed that Corolla to its limits. Now that I’m an old duffer, I’m not as hard on my vehicles.

I think you struck gold on that truck. I waited for the 24s and don't like them. They removed the extended cab suicide doors and added a turbo. I don't like the crew cab that you mentioned because there's no room in there anyway, may as well get the extended/access cab. Cheaper way to get the 6' bed and keep the price in the 30s. To get a comfortable 3-4 seater truck you really need to get a half ton crew cab. There's one incoming at a dealer near me this week that I'm trying to decide to pull the trigger on. I'd rather buy used but the used market is still a worse value than buying new. $9000 for someones 200-300,000 mile 20 year old truck? Makes no sense at all. I really need to pay off my house so I hate to buy any new vehicle but I feel forced and what you have is the best thing out there.

This was my first new vehicle ever. I felt like I really didn't need a new one but I wanted one so I can look back in 20 years and say that I had that truck all to myself. Also, vehicles aren't getting any cheaper so I decided to pull the trigger on a new one. But from all the comments from other owners the used ones would be just as good I think as long as they did maintenance on them. Yeah it's crazy to spend a ton of money on a truck that has so many miles. I would rather buy new or close to new. Thanks for commenting and thanks for watching!

@@hillbillyrickoutdoors5208 Absolutely you can. That’s what I said. If you can lower your transmission temperature by 20 degrees then you’re golden. I looked at a Tacoma extra cab 4WD with the 4cyl and auto transmission. We live in a very mountainous area of north central Washington state, so a truck needs some power to get around here. We need a 6’ bed, so that’s why I stopped to look at it. That 4cyl was painfully slow. The Toyota dealership had a lot of double cabs but All of them had the worthless (to us) 5’ bed. I told the salesman that we had to have a 6’ bed. He thought for a moment and said that he thinks that there was a White TRD Crew Cab with a 6’ bed in the back and to give him a moment to check. Sure enough it was a 6’ bed. It had the Premium and Technology pkgs , tri-fold tonneau cover and running boards. We negotiated the price. It had only 6K miles on it. I looked up the blue book on it and it was $51,484. I bought it for $48K. We had been saving up to pay cash for another Tacoma 4WD and 6’ bed. We didn’t have quite enough saved so we had to finance $12K. One of our CDs will mature in about 5 months, so when it’s mature we’ll take out whatever the payoff is and pay off the truck and reinvest the rest.

@@hillbillyrickoutdoors5208 I neglected to mention that I had a 2013 Tacoma with that very same 2.7 4CYL I loved how smooth that engine ran. Never had a issue with it. ( I didn't like the 4 gear transmission)

@justincase9638 my friend had an 2012 and another friend had a 1998 Toyota Tacoma. I always loved their trucks. The older one was a 4 cylinder and I just loved how he put it through so much and had no issues. To me, in my opinion, it's the best truck and the 4cyl is a tough as nails engine too.

Yes, it has the lane assist. At first I didn't like it much but now I don't mind it. Thanks for watching!

I love these trucks with the exception of the wheels. They look so bad

I know right? I figure I need to use up the tires that came with them and then I may get some new wheels at that time. I appreciate the comment and thanks for watching!

Never understood why americans buy these big trucks..i mean they look really good but they are way to big

I hear you. This truck is considered one of the smallest they make that can sell in America. But yes, people buy big diesel trucks and never even use them to pull anything. Thanks for watching!

100% agree. As long as it gets me to where I want to go that is all that matters to me. Thanks for watching!
