Hey, you should point out that the truck you are reviewing isn't the way the SR is equipped, the one you show has the utility package, which deletes the rear seats, rear speakers, intermittent wipers, sliding rear window, and that's when you get the black plastic front bumper....also, try and slow down a bit, you talk so fast it's hard to tell what you are saying. Judging from the snickering you interject here and there it seems you look down on this base truck, but lots of people just need a basic truck to do what trucks are made to do, and not just as a luxury toy to boost their self esteem
@cardsfan65
@cardsfan65 2 года назад
I've got this model in October (2021) in magnetic gray, it has intermittent wipers and heated side mirrors,with my trade in ( 2016 Toyota yaris ) i ended up paying a little over $18,000 + Taxes and fees,love this model,not a speed demon on take off ,but it is a very reliable truck that will last a very long time with proper maintenance ,so far i've been averaging a little over 24 MPG in the city alone,i haven't taken any highway trips yet .

Nissan Frontier, Chevy Colorado and Ford Ranger should take a Lesson from Toyota and offer their access cabs with a factory utility delete. 🧐🧐let’s be honest those tiny rear seats are useless anyway. Actually if you want to carry passengers a crew cab is the way to go. All access cabs should be rear seat deleted option to save a few $$$

Once upon a time, trucks were purchased for utility. Seats were vinyl, floors were rubber, windows were crank and seating was typically for 3 or less. Because if you had to take a kid fishing with you, you only had room for the oldest one and the whiney ones could stay at home. The less you optioned it with, the less things could break. This truck harkens back to those beautiful days of simplicity when you could jump into your truck with an arse covered in mud and boots covered in manure, grab the cheap steering wheel with your calloused hard working hands and drive the ever living snot out of it while the fish you caught flopped around on the floor behind you and whatever might break was probably easy enough for you to fix it yourself. Ah, the good old days. When you not only could afford to buy a truck, you could afford to treat it like one. Nice review and I for one am just tickled that trucks like these still exist. I tip my hat to Toyota for not forgetting the folks that still cherish the utility and frugality of the trucks that put them on the map in North America. Cheers!

Ya, but those old trucks weren't 30 grand. And before we say inflation, a 1990 Toyota pickup was 5250-8750 in 1990. $7000 in 1990 adjusted to todays dollars from inflation is 15,313. IMO this would be an excellent old school truck at 20K. At 30K it's a ripoff.

I just bought this truck is January and it looks a lot better in Midnight Black that matches all the black trim. I bought it with the 4cyl because at that price point it is probably one of the most reliable vehicles being made and even the base model is pretty nicely equipped. The dealer had a set of new TRD wheels and tires they installed on it and people assume it is a 4x4 and are suprised when I tell them it is a base model. Overall I think it is just a very honest truck and works very well with my lifestyle, which means hauling kayaks, going fishing and hauling my dogs down for a walk on the beach.

I'm maxing 25.5 mpg, having no problem coming up to speed on divided highway on ramps & the coolest thing about that engine is that it spins at 1,900 rpm at 70 mph whereas the 4.7L Tundra Double Cab, TRD, LTD spun 2,300 at 70 mph. I added the BAK Revolver X4s flush mound hard rollable tonneau cover so that I don't have to remove snow, sleet & ice from the bed in the Winters here in Western Mass. I can now turn around in the width of the road whereas the Double Cab Tundra was like driving a school bus. What's not to like?

If I got the four cylinder version I would get the 6 speed manual transmission for better performance. It depends on what you need it for and in the extended cab you would put a ladder rack or shell on it to utilize the 6 foot bed for cargo. Also there is less weight with the extended cab compared to the double cab so it will ride a little ruffer .

i bought a 2021 4x4 access cab with the sx package in dec 2020 i love this trk i have 28,000 trouble free miles. is it a tire burner noooo i didnt buy it for that. if you want a no frills pick up truck that goes point a to point B and you can still throw stuff in the back there’s not a better truck on the market in this price range.

I just got the double cab V6 version of this last week. Honestly, it's decent but this tacoma really makes me miss my 2021 SR5 Tundra. The seats in the tacoma aren't exactly ideal for anyone over 6 feet. Not to mention they're not the most comfortable and always feel like they're too high. Maybe this would be different if it were a limited or TRD trim but I dunno. I'll probably only keep it for a year. 2023 Tundra Platinum, I'm coming for ya....or the 1500 Limited. (haven't decided yet lol) The RAM Limited has been my favorite vehicle to drive so far, closely followed by the new Tundra.
@IzaguirreC
@IzaguirreC 2 года назад
Ouch why did you get rid of the v8 tundra? Don’t get me wrong I love tacomas and I own a 2020 TRD offroad, but that was a downgrade. The new tundras are nice inside and out but that lack luster of a powertrain is what kills it for me. I test drove a sr5 22’ with trd offroad and a platinum 2wd.

I don't understand why they didn't put the new 2.5 4cyl from the Rav4 in there unless it can't be configured to RWD. It has a lot more power and better fuel economy, although I'm sure the numbers would be different in a truck.
@andrewvalentin6228
@andrewvalentin6228 Год назад
Because the 2.7L is an iron block truck Engine with low end torque, maximum torque at 3800 RPM. The 2.5L is an aluminum block car engine, you have to Rev it up really high to get power.
@timflint25
@timflint25 Год назад
@andrewvalentin6228 that makes sense but I'm sure you could tune it differently. I've got a 2016 Rav4 with the older 2.5 and all the power is down low. But that's all electronic throttle control, probably not a physical attribute of the engine

I'd suggest stepping it up to a V6 with 4WD if you haven't already bought anything. That is unless you 100% know you will never, ever need 4WD for anything AND you 100% know you will never need more towing/hauling capacity than the 4-cylinder can provide. I've seen a lot of people in various Tacoma communities online regret not getting a V6 with 4WD because they didn't realize what limitations it had compared to what they wanted to do with the truck.
