Thank you for watching. This is a follow-up video to my initial review of the 2023 Toyota Tundra limited. In that video I addressed my likes, dislikes and I talked about my ownership so far. This video was made to complement that first one, address anything I missed, and to provide my thoughts on some of the comments I've seen so far. I still love this truck and hope to provide another review many miles later.

You hit the nail on the head about the subscription issue. The move from "products" to "services" in ALL industries is one that only stands to hurt the consumer long term. When I buy something I want to own it.

I have a 22 Tundra Plat Hybrid. In colder weather the mileage went down to about 17mpg using 4-wheel drive and warming up. Now that summer is back, I'm getting about 20-21mpg. The seat was a bit firm at first, but now super comfortable. I don't have wind noise or rattles. Rock solid, love it!

My understanding of the reason that they dropped the V-8 engine is that no matter what they could have done with it, it would never be able to meet upcoming CO2 emissions standards. Apparently Toyota looks about ten years ahead while other manufacturer's look less.

I wouldn't say they look 10 years ahead but they know they will probably no be looking to do any changes for at least 10 plus years like the previous gen tundra and 4runner

@@1JeffJames initially it was about 18-19 mpg then it started creeping up once I past 500 miles on the odometer. I remember I got so excited seeing 21.9 mpg for the first time lol that's my old Tacoma mpg. Now I'm getting 20 mpg pretty easily even with the AC running. On a good day I'm getting 23.8 but normally it's 20 - 23 mpg in the city I haven't had any road trips yet but I don't think it will deviate much from those numbers. Keep in mind my Tundra is a 4X2 hybrid (no need for 4X4 in the concrete jungle of Houston and no off-roading) not lifted, stock tires with a tonneau cover if any of those makes a difference. I really enjoy your videos because you're being objective with lots of real world experience I'm glad I found your channel. Take care.

Nice review. I recently bought a 2023 Platinum and am still figuring out a few things so your video helped. A couple items I haven't tested yet are the low speed cruise control where the truck automatically comes to a complete stop and the trailer back up system.
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin Год назад
Thank you! I have not tested the slow speed radar adaptive cruise control yet on this truck either. That said, the same Toyota safety sense 2.0 on our 2019 RAV4 works pretty great. It comes to a complete stop and then resumes driving all on its own. I'm not sure if this truck does the same though.

I am glad to hear that it seems Toyota has worked fixes into the assembly process to address the cabin wind noise issues. I have a 1794 built in January 2022. There are wind noise issues with the front driver door seal and the RR door seal, and a roof liner above the front passenger near the visor that makes a snapping noise occasionally due to bad adhesive. I registered these issues during my 10k service recently. The dealer basically treated the door seals which helped somewhat, but it is not a long-term solution. I am hoping there will be a TSB soon that may lead to better parts. If not, I will have Toyota replace them all before the 3/36 warranty is up. Outside of those issues, it's a fairly quiet truck with a nice ride. I was getting 18.5 to 19.5 MPG mixed driving before the winter blended gas late last fall. Now I get about 17.5 MPG mixed. Straight highway, full tank, I still get close to 22 MPG with 3 passengers and 800 lbs of bed cargo.

Thanks for the review. Hoping these videos will help with my decision to purchase. FYI: Tire height is the Aspect Ratio not the first number on the tire. The higher the fist number, the wider the tire, the second is the sidewall height and third, the rim size. The bigger the AR (65 vs 55), the greater difference in your MPH also.
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin Год назад
Thanks man, I emphasized the tire width in millimeters because the aspect ratio for both tires is the same number. Aspect ratio is just a percentage of your tread width, which is why the 275s with the same aspect ratio number are slightly taller than the 265s.

Bought a 2023 TRD PRO, in Dec. Absolutely love it. It's all black. Great looking truck. The grill makes the truck look menacing. Enjoy the twin turbos and the sound coming out of the exhaust. The Infotainment screen is large. I feel like I am getting a tan. Toggle through the rearview camera. There is a camera view that provides a clear view of who's behind you. I'll be towing an Airstream, this summer. Does anyone see a difference between using 87 octane gas vs using 92? Thanks!

I watched part 1 also, and you do a fantastic job. I bought a 23 Hybrid used with 1500 mi. Drove it 5 hours home from the dealer. No rattles, no issues. Seat was extremely comfortable. I agree with what you're saying. One thing I did notice...just filled up the truck and the dash with a full tank, only reads 374 mi range. I noticed that at the dealer...full tank, 360-ish range. My truck only, maybe?
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin Год назад
Thank you! That's very odd about your fuel range reading less than 400 miles. Mine typically reads between 450 and 500. I know there was a slight issue with the hybrid RAV4s not filling up all of the way because of the filler nozzle having issues. Our RAV4 never had that issue though. I assume all hybrids have the 32.2 gallon tank. Perhaps the fuel range predictor is reading low because of some recent towing trips?
@shampoo6563
@shampoo6563 Год назад
Mine says the same thing when I fill it up all the way. Had a 2018 ram and a 2015 f150 before the tundra and I got way more range when I filled them up. Smaller gas tank maybe on the tundras? Mine is a 2023 SR5 non hybrid.
@prioritymaleman
@prioritymaleman Год назад
@@shampoo6563 I don't think that's it, as my tank is 32 gal. At 20mpg which I've been getting during breakin (2500-ish mi), should be 600+. Maybe it's learning my driving style...? Not sure; if it continues I'll let the dealer recalibrate.

Good review. Can you explain why your payload is only 1400 lbs, when the advertised max payload is 1740 lbs for the 2023 Limited 4x4 CrewMax 5.5 ft bed? Does your truck actually have over 300 lbs. worth of extra equipment that reduced your payload number? Most of us know that payload, not max towing capacity, is the limiting factor when towing. Thanks
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin Год назад
I'm not 100% certain what makes my payload numbers lower. I think Toyota is playing it safe with some of these payload numbers I've seen. Possibly to cover their butts. A few hundred extra pounds would have been really nice, but I'm honestly pretty happy with 1400 for my needs. That allows me to tow 7000 lb with my family and some gear.

I have the same truck but hybrid and long box, my payload is 1405lbs. When I picked it from the Toyota web site I was supposed to have well over 1600lbs payload. The frustrating thing is here in Canada we don’t get to add on any options, the trucks basically come fully loaded, with that being said I should have gotten the advertised payload. I reached out to Toyota and they basically said it depends on your options, how can that be when you can’t pick any!!

Would you buy the air ride suspension again now that you have some miles driving it? There’s so much noise about them. I’ve had master technicians on payroll tell me don’t touch them. They’re expensive to repair. They don’t last, Toyota has tried these several times and can’t get them correct? What is your opinion.
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin 5 месяцев назад
I can't speak to the system's longevity, only my experience with it so far, and based on that I would buy it again. Everything works as well as it did on day 1 and I've towed with a very heavy tongue weight through the mountains in mid July summer temps and in well below zero winter temps. I'm hoping it is reliable, but a coil spring is much simpler.
