Great comparison review, no question! But I'm heavily confused as to why someone who has an existing in-ground pool cleaner (like my Hayward "The Pool Cleaner") would want to get a robot vac. While my Hayward sucks (pun intended) when it comes to my stairs and walls, it does its job every day without fail. I never have to think about it. With a robot vac, you now have a daily chore of taking it out of the pool, emptying the basket, charging it, then going back out later in the day to put it back in the pool. The end result is you will forget to do it and you'll have a filthy pool. I get that this is great for above ground pools or pools without a built-in cleaning system. Also, I have no issues with the hose breaking down -- I live in San Diego, my pool has been here for 23 years and the only time I replace the hose is when I replace the cleaner (which isn't very often -- like every 10 years). I wish that the inconvenience factor of this solution was highlighted in your review. On another note, if anyone can recommend a replacement for my hosed pool cleaner that knows how to properly climb walls and clean stairs please let me know :)

@@tosoflo1 so far so good. The only challenge I have had is I have to always use it all coverage, floor and wall mode or it will not fully clean the floor on both ends of the pool. We have a pool with shallow ends on both ends and a deeper section in the middle. I think it gets confused at times and thinks it’s climbing up a wall when in floor mode only. So the ends of the pools floors don’t get as clean as they do when in all coverage mode.

@@Jonacarpenter Honestly, I'm still crazy-impressed with it. For years we had our Polaris 380 running 1-2h daily and it was just ok. The Seauto we drop in 1-2x/w at most and it picks up things the Polaris never did. I though having a battery powered robot would be a pain, but considering how much better it works, it's really no trouble at all. Have had zero issues. During your dirt tests, I noticed the finest black particulate matter being reintroduced into your otherwise very clean pool water. I have the same challenge with my manual hand vacuums. I've found that lining the entire inner filter with paper towels, specifically Bounty brand in my case, adds additional filtering and will capture even the smallest particulates, even dead algae.
@TheHookUp
@TheHookUp 11 месяцев назад
Interesting, I'll give that a shot. Do you notice any serious decrease in suction?
@roberthernandez7564
@roberthernandez7564 11 месяцев назад
@@TheHookUp I have not noticed a signifiant decrease in suction, however, I do notice the tone of the vacuum motor does change a bit when I use the paper towel method. This suggests the motors are working harder than they otherwise might. As a result, I only use the paper towel method when there's a significant amount of fine particulate to remove.

@The Hook Up I purcahsed the Seauto based on your review. I'm sorry to say that I haven't had a great experience with it at all and I can't recommend it to anyone. I have an in ground pool, rectangular, with a slight slope. It gets around the pool just fine, but I have an algae problem and it's very clear the the robot does not have great coverage. I have to run the robot several times a week just to get the pool to look OK (there are still green areas on the floor where the robot just missed again and again). Even with three times a week, the robot doesn't get where the walls meet the floor at all. There's always a clear very thick green line there. Probably because the robot seems to always take the walls at an odd angle instead of straight up. My pool has seating accross one of the walls and the robot just misses the whole seat somehow. And the water sensor on the robot is mounted so high that it can't clean my baja shelf, in fact, it often climbs up to the shelf, tips over and then gets stuck on it. At which point I have to go push it back in the pool.

Hi, great video by the way. I went with your results and bought the Seauto SE. We have used it 5 times with some issues. I have been in contact with the rep and followed the instructions she had sent us. The cleaner was not following any pattern at all so she told us to reset the machine. Did that and now that has helped with a pattern it's following. The part that is not working is the machine picks up the sand but when pulling the machine out of the water, alot of it goes right back in the pool. Seems to be a bad design with the rubber flap. Waiting on a response from her on this issue. We also cannot get it synced with our phone. This seems to be the biggest complaint from customers. Lastly, I also found out that they do not have spare parts available yet. She said that if it is still under warranty, send it back and they will send a new one. I bought this Jan 2024. It's a great price but with my concerns, it may be going back for a refund. What brand/model would you recommend for a cordless, full pool cleaning under $500?
@TheHookUp
@TheHookUp 5 месяцев назад
A few things: 1) in "all cover mode" the floor cleaning pattern doesn't start until after it has done wall cleaning for the first 50% of the battery capacity. Wall cleaning looks a lot more random than floor cleaning. 2) Have you inspected your basket to make sure there aren't any holes in the screen? 3) Wireless signals won't work if the cleaner is in the water, it needs to be above the surface to connect. 4) As you've seen, this is the best option of all the units I tested, regardless of price, so I don't have any better recommendation.
@RJC4704
@RJC4704 5 месяцев назад
Thank you very much for responding back with the info. No holes in the screen mesh but I'm pretty sure when we lift it out of the water it is losing debris through the rubber flap at the bottom of the basket when lifting it out and letting the water drain out. Appreciate all your info and help!!

@@TheHookUpOut of curiosity why do you want to move away from the suction cleaner? It seems you are trading hose life for battery life. Assuming the batteries are even replaceable, they probably cost as much.
@TheHookUp
@TheHookUp 11 месяцев назад
@AeroElectro copy paste from a different comment: Each of my suction side vacuums lasted less than 5 years (Zodiac MX8 lasted 4 years, then MX6 lasted 4), and that was replacing parts every 1-2 years (new treads every year, new gearbox every 2 years). The final straw for me switching from suction side to battery powered was the fact that my last set of Zodiac tubing failed in less than 2 years. I use 7 meters of it, so that's $150+ just to replace the hose. The other huge benefit of these battery powered cleaners over a suction side is that they collect debris in their bins rather than sending it to your pool filter. During pollen season I typically have to clean my pool filter every 2 weeks. I'm hoping this cleaner significantly reduces the amount of pollen that makes it to the filter.
@RaffBuilding
@RaffBuilding 11 месяцев назад
@@TheHookUp Very interesting point about these cleanings keeping the fine debris rather than stir it up for your pool filter. But do you really insert & remove your new vac nearly daily? @TheHookUp 11 месяцев назад
It's a lithium ion battery, so it should last a very long time. The replacement battery on Amazon is $200, which is not competitively priced given the overall cost of the robot, but I'm wondering if you could get it directly from Seauto for a lot less money using their customer service line. Again, I'd expect it to last quite a while before needing replacement, but lithium cells do randomly go bad sometimes.

Wish a gold standard wired pool robot was included for comparison. I doubt any of these can match a wired robot which doesn’t cost that much more.

My Seauto Shark is WAY better than my wired Polaris. Way faster and doesn't stir up the dust and filters all the finest dust.

My pool is very similar and my Seauto is arriving today. Given that the wall only mode covered better thank the all surface mode and covered almost all the floor do you recommend that mode? 2:30

Not shilling for Hayward here but my suction-side AquaNaut has nearly never left the pool in its 8yrs. Only thing I’ve replaced is its rubber “tires” for ~$20. Can’t comment on its cleaning ability compared to one of these but I never have to clean a basket, recharge it, remember to put it in or pull it out, battery (& runtime) degradation, etc. Pool maintenance is already a never ending chore; why add one more to the list?
@TheHookUp
@TheHookUp 11 месяцев назад
Each of my suction side vacuums lasted less than 5 years (Zodiac MX8 lasted 4 years, then MX6 lasted 4), and that was replacing parts every 1-2 years (new treads every year, new gearbox every 2 years).

@@TheHookUp you should try a Hayward. Even my last cleaner (can't recall the name of it now) lasted 10 years without needing any maintenance. Hook it up to the pool, set it and forget it. These robots are waaaaaay too much work. Who wants to have to go out to the pool every day and deal with it. And if you're out of town or on vacation for a week... nah, I'm out.This isn't the solution for existing hose vacs. It's a solution for pools that don't have one.

@@TheHookUpagree with commenter that there seems to be little utility from a smart pool cleaner. A Hayward, which my parents have had on their pools since I can remember works really well. I suggest a follow up video comparing the better brand suction side cleaners against these smart ones.

My pool has a booster pump and its $1000 to swap out now that its dead so this is definitely something I’m thinking about. I also have a hot tub that my normal pool cleaner has never touched.

I almost hate my Polaris 280 boost pump driven robot enough to swap it for one of these. It seems like something is always broken (wheel, spring, bag, wall connection, etc) or tangled (cord, goggles). And the boost pump required to run it is loud. Thanks for making this video -- Gives me some really helpful insights.

I'm with you, having a Polaris 280 also, but at least I just leave it in the pool & it does its thing. There's no way we're going to integrate the insertion & removal of these vacs into our daily, or even every-other-day, schedule.
@JRSkola
@JRSkola 11 месяцев назад
@@RaffBuilding Yeah, that's a great point. I leave the 280 in pretty much 24/7, and have automated the pool pump/boost.
@RaffBuilding
@RaffBuilding 11 месяцев назад
@@JRSkola But @ThehookUp also makes the great point that these robots actually pick up the fine debris, when the Polaris just stirs it up for the general pool filter to take care of. My curiousity is piqued with these robots, but I also want to dive into the corded.

Have you done any vacuums for above ground pool in the larger 28 ft or the square above ground pools?

These will work for above ground pools. 28ft pool is 615sqft, the seauto says up to 2150ft.

I wish I would have known this was in the works. Just bought a Dolphin (corded) and it seems ok, but our irregular shaped kidney bean pool seems to mess with the angles when it is working. Curious if pool vac vids will become a staple like the IP cameras so we can look forward to the corded vacs and the remote skimmer only vacs? Do you publish any kind of coming soon list?

I have an above ground pool and I was thinking of getting one of these. I’m getting older and vacuuming has become a bit problematic for me. After seeing this vid I’ve come to the conclusion that these things are more of a hassle than they’re worth. I’ll be bothering my son to do the vacuuming now.
