Whether at the college, state or national level, there are more than 50 organizations that promote themselves as advocates for engineers here in the United States; and among the international associations, over 30 more world-wide. In this webinar we review several of these groups and their bylaws or constitutions, assess how they advocate for the engineering community and compare their governing documents and efforts with Ohio’s rules for professional and ethical conduct. We also review some international engineering disasters in these same countries to see how their engineers compromised their required ethical tenets. Finally, ODOT has reinforced its commitment to avoiding conflicts of interest through recent guidance. We talk a little about that guidance and some real-world examples that may have led to ODOT’s formal direction to the industry regarding conflicts of interest.
The presenter is Tom Pannett, P.E., Esq., MBA, CPPOret, a Partner with the law firm Kegler Brown Hill + Ritter in Columbus, Ohio.
