I was apart of the 2% voting #1, but I'm a delusional Sharks fan. I can realistically see maybe 25-30 wins if Celebrini and Smith make an immediate impact.

Always liked the Sharks as one of my favorite Western Conference teams. Hopefully they start moving back in the right direction this season.

Last season's projected centers of Hertl, Couture, Granlund and Sturm didn't make it out of training camp. GM Grier has rebuilt organizational depth and the team already has two 1st round picks in next year's draft. Makiniemi is a UFA. "When healthy" he played well in the AHL last season.

Watch out for Shakir Mukhamadullin -- he's ready and should push through into the lineup, and can turn into a real solid top-4 offensive dman soon.

As a fan I feel that the Sharks are going to take another trip to the ping pong ball machine, but I hope for some fun games this time around.

11:27 "Seven of their first eight games are on the road." I think you missed their first two regular season games 10/10 vs STL and 10/12 vs ANA which are at home. After that they have the stretch of seven out of eight on the road.

I don’t see them in the playoffs, but I think they probably add 10 wins to their total from last year, which is a massive jump

Like where the team is going. Strong prospect pool and a new coach. But the rebuild is still in its early stage. Last in the Pacific with 58-63 points.

makiniemi's contract is up, he's a UFA. the sharks have indicated he's unlikely to be brought back. shame injuries derailed his career. the other goalie in the sharks system (ahl deal) is gabriel carriere but romanov and chrona are most likely to get there. underrated potential callup for a bottom 6 position: Ethan Cardwell. also deserving of mention are F Tristen Robins and D Jack Thompson.

I feel like they'll still be like 30-32 in the league standings but they are gonna be a fun team to watch & they'll show a ton of potential this year & having vets to help out the young guys. My one thing as a hockey fan, I'd really like to see Vlasic play with Dickinson I think that would be really cool, also would like to see Celebrini & Smith together on a line like college that would be fun to watch.

I think they're actually in a pretty good spot. Probably going to have a top 5 pick plus a mid-1st round pick next year, followed by a big leap forward on the ice.

As a sharks fan since 2001 i have to admit i really haven't been watching them all that much since 2018. All those playoff losses took its toll on me. I think it might be a good time for me to get back into them again, i like some of these young guys they drafted.

40 seconds in and this is gonna be the best season preview. Cant wait for the red wings. Probably gonna be one of the last ones because yzerman is taking his sweet a** time signing two pillars of the franchise for the next 15 years.

I think they bottomed out last season, but I don't expect a huge step forward this coming one.

Also, definitely going to be a development year for San Jose, so buckle up I don't think they'll have that back-to-back 10-goal pastings again, but it'll be closer to 42-46 points

I believe we are still very early in the rebuild but as a lifelong Shark I am starting to see fellow Teal Town citizens getting excited again as not only is the future bright it’s in teal

Hey HG, Thanks for the interesting comprehensive look at the upcoming Sharks season. In typical fashion after you did this the Sharks made two fairly significant moves trading for Cody Cece and today acquiring Yaroslav Askarov. I don't really know either of these players but, it sounds like Cece should be another solid defensive defensemen for us with a lot of experience like Ruta and Askarov is apparently a highly regarded 1st round goalie selection via Nashville. If Ashkarov is close to what others say he is it sounds like he is a significant upgrade to our goaltending if he realizes his potential which is certainly not guaranteed. The road to the Hockey Hall of Fame is paved with highly regarded prospects who never realized their potential so we will see. That said I think right now Askarov becomes the most highly regarded goaltending prospect the Sharks have ever had in our system. Even though Nabakov had a good career and Kiprasoff won a Vezna with Daryl Sutter in Calgary neither of them were that highly touted as prospects. It is also worth remembering that both were protegees of the great Warren Strelow. The Sharks were so lucky to have Mr. Strelow as our goalie coach when the franchise started. He developed 5 NHL starting goalies and none of them were higher than a 3rd round pick. If Askarov realizes his potential I think with all the other moves made by the Sharks we are definitely closer to setting our new core in place though I would suspect we are at least 3 years away from seriously contending for a play off spot. Thinking it’s still going to be a rough season but should see improvement

Pretty excited for my sharks this season. I think they probably dump some veteran guys before the playoff trade deadline. Hopeful that Couture is healthy and that the sharks are headed towards a winning season. As always thank you for the content.

Have there ever been two teammates who have finished 1-2 in Calder voting? Could happen here and Smith could end up on top given how dynamic he is offensively.

As a Sharks fan my main concern is the Barracuda. Despite the Sharks having a number-one if not top five prospect pool, the SJ Barracuda aren't good. The Sharks have historically been great at drafting, but I'm worried about how their development system is going to work.

Sharks: so, if we pick up Goodrow on waivers, you're going to give us a favorable trade back? Rags: yep! absolutely! Sharks: ok, we picked him up off waivers. so, give us that trade value back Rags: give what back?

Vlasic is gonna be a 7th d-man. If Benning is healthy, he'll play over Vlasic. And if trades are made on the blueline, Shakir will be in the NHL the rest of the season.

Couture and Toffoli as mentors for the young forwards, Vlasic for the blueliners, new coach in the league and probably a good spot in the draft next year. As a Sharks fan, there's nothing to loose and I trust the Grier plan. If there's an upgrade in results it's good, if there's not it's ok to tank at least another season

Definitely not a playoff team this year, but I don’t foresee another 0-10-1 start. A player who maybe could be brought in on a PTO is JVR for experience. Do have some cap space. I remember seeing Blackwood play for the Albany Devils back in the day.

As a Sharks fan, we’re doomed if Luke Kunin is skating in the top 9 again 😅 Adding Celebrini and Smith into the mix should be fun. Hopefully Gushchin, Bordeleau, and Mukhamadullin as well.

I don't think they'll win many more games, but hopefully for their fans there are less 10 goal shellackings, where we see some traumatized little kid in the stands holding up a sign saying it's their birthday and this is their first time they got to go to a NHL game. As far as moving up the conference standings go, are they going to be better than Anaheim or Chicago? Barring a ton of injuries to other teams, I just don't see it.

It's going to be the battle of last place with Calgary, Anaheim, and San Jose. I do think San Jose will finish 6th.

They will do better their offense should be better than it was also.

Hopes up for Sharks. One thing I think people keep missing… Granlund is underrated (which happens in a bad team or wrong line ups by gms doing late season desperate trades). I am not saying he is 30 goal and or 40 apples on top but he plays well rounded game.

Eetu Makiniemi was not re-signed by the Sharks and is currently a UFA. He's a decent goaltender but cannot stay healthy & collectively missed several months each of the past 3 seasons.

I am a Blackwood Stan. I hate how everyone throws his name in the dumpster. He was without a doubt the best player in a Shark's uni last year. His injury, and not having a team in front of him, are what kept him from breaking 0.900. I would love to see him stay healthy this season, and get some more shutouts. Also, last year was such an embarrassing slog, no way this team doesn't break 25 wins this year. There's tanking for a pick, and then there's pride.

I still think they can turn last season around.

What other activities in life do we tolerate as we do with the teams we cheer for? Sucking for 5 years is normal and acceptable when it comes to sports. Sometimes few decades, such as Sabres.

This coming season, the San Jose Sharks will finish last in the Pacific Division with a record of 18-54-10 in their final season in San Jose. On December 5, San Jose Sports & Entertainment Enterprises will sell the Sharks to a Houston-based group headed by Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta for $1.25 billion. On January 9, 2025, the NHL Board of Governors will approve the sale of the Sharks to a Fertitta-led Houston-based group in a 31-1 vote, only Tom Gaglardi of the Dallas Stars will vote against it. On March 26, 2025, the NHL and a Fertitta-led Houston-based group will announce that the Sharks will relocate from San Jose to Houston, change their name to the Houston Outlaws, and play their home games at Toyota Center beginning next season.

The problem with Grier is he is trying to win before there is any evidence the team can win with the current roster. Many bad teams would be WAY better off just staying in a rebuild until they make the playoffs during the rebuild. Buff has not won 2 rounds since 2007. Det 2009 Ott 2017 Anaheim 2017 Ari 2012 Chi 2015 Columbus never in history Phi 2010 Cal 2004 NJ 2012 Toronto 2002 Minn 2003. This is the worst list to be on IMO because until you actually win 2 rounds or more I do not consider the team a real contender. Many of these teams constantly do win now or win soon type moves and some of these moves are quite foolish over just doing a rebuild move instead. A good GM / President / Head Scout should be able to make the playoffs and win 1 round even if they never stop rebuilding. Paying out big contracts before proof of winning 2 rounds is so foolish for so many teams. Paying out big contracts without even making the playoffs is worse like some of the teams on the list. The Toffoli contract looks sooooo bad. The only way it can look good is if the sharks win 2 rounds in 1 playoffs in the next 4 years. He cant be traded to anyone unless he agrees to it which is so foolish for the worst team in the NHL to give out on purpose. Toffoli is older than Hertl and costs only slightly less. All the fans that preach about vets teaching young guys and all the bad teams have that to some degree and it is highly overrated if the rest of the roster is still bad. Some talk like he did the Toffoli contract to reach the min cap and there is no evidence of that at all. 2022 Grier traded down with the sharks 1st round pick. He traded 11 overall for 27, 34 and 45. This is a type of trade a rebuilding team should do where you get insurance from being wrong. No team with a top 10 pick even traded down in 2023 or 2024 which just flaunts how poorly run many of those teams are. Getting insurance from being wrong is generally smarter because even if you pick right the roster has to be good enough to win 2 rounds or more or the guy does not matter that much. Most top 10 draft picks never win a cup with the team who drafts them or ever. That Grier traded up for Dickinson at 11 overall is sooooo risky for the worst team to do. It is risky compared to trading down at 14 for the best offer to get insurance. I hope he is a HOF player. Having Smith and Macklin play in the NHL right now instead of putting them on the slide to keep their contracts cheaper for 2 extra years is probably going to be foolish unless the team becomes a contender soon. The sharks got 2 extra cheap years with William Eklund on the slide that Grier did and he had the best year of his career last season. That is one of the biggest advantages to doing it. I hope the sharks win 2 rounds soon so I can be less critical of Grier. I think the roster obviously looks better from last season at least on paper.

I did I preview for the Pacific division on the Canucks subreddit and my breakdown for the Sharks was, "Who cares?" They could double their point total and still miss the playoffs, they have no retention slots to weaponize their cap space, and not enough early draft picks to upgrade quickly. They are screwed this season and likely next season.

none of those prospect goalies fill me with confidence. this is the team that should target askarov. bystedt/edstrom and the vegas 1st should be a good offer.

I think they finish 7th in the division. I think Calgary will bottom out.
