• 2024 #36 & 37 Dive...
This video is from our two LSAC dives at the picnic site at Loch Linnhe. There was a good turn out of six members and a prospective new member, Alastair Skene. Amazingly, the weather was sunny for us, and the breeze kept the midges away.
This is a pleasant site with a nice reef wall at around 9m depth to the left of the entry point, around the promontory there.
The vis was not the best, but we made the best of it and found the reef without difficulty. The highlight for me on our first dive was finding a large Ling living in a crack in the wall. This was my first encounter with a Ling. This one was, perhaps close to a metre long. Alastair also spotted a Bootlace worm, which must have been around 2m long. After finding these, we continued along until we felt the ebb current starting to pull us away from our start point, so we turned around at this point, which was 29 minutes into the dive. We ascended around 3m and were suddenly swept up in a strong contra current of turbid warm water, which took us back to our starting point in less than 3 minutes!
My second dive was with Tom, which saw us back at the crack with its resident Ling. We also found a younger, smaller Ling further along.
We returned to the crack where I settled down o see if the Ling would come further out to investigate me. I was rewarded with a very close encounter with it (I might bring some fish with me next time to see if it will take it from me).
Two really great dives, thanks guys.
