I want to try using Leptos as I learn more Rust. I am also interested to see where the WASI side of WASM goes in 2024. Also I am hoping to see Helix editor grow, and hopefully they will add a plugin system. It would be interesting if they chose WASM for that too 🤔

People seem more excited about Helix than the last time I checked. Might work it into my list to try.

I think they have dropped the idea of doing plugins in wasm.

@@aviagarwal3011 ah I see they updated to clarify intention to look at Scheme instead. Not sure how that will work out.

haha I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but I'll be back with more AoC in December again at the very least.

My goal overall for this year is to properly learn Rust and use it for cybersecurity (since it's what I wanna do my thesis on!). You were one of the people that inspired me to use Rust and I'm so glad I'm into this rabbit hole of sorts haha, it's an incredible language and while the ecosystem is still young I really REALLY love how you can do pretty much everything with it (not to mention Cargo is an absolute delight to use). Thanks for introducing me to Rust and here's to hoping 2024 is a great year for all of us! :D

All the best for your 2024 topics! On my side I want to continue to invest in 3d gamedev with Bevy, continue to build my community on Indiedevcasts and start embedded development for my micro vertical farm project. Your channel is always super interesting to visit, thanks!

Thanks for the video. I love that you're getting more into Leptos. I want to play with it more, but my laziness has me still using tide (framework) and tide-jsx (components). My goal for this year is to get the game I'm working on (in Bevy) out the door and on Steam. I don't expect it to blow up, but I want to have something out there. I only really have the foundation created at the moment (with some latency issues that I'm resolving this week), but I think I finally have the story figured out along with the fun aspects of the gameplay. Expect to see more posts from me on Mastodon. After that, I'm going to get better with fragment shaders and make something else in Bevy (don't know what yet, though - maybe another game, maybe a tool with intricate visuals - idk). Any new videos about fragment shaders are a guaranteed watch from me!

Hey, interesting stuff, got me thinking about writing code once and running it natively or also in the browser. I think we have a bright future ahead as it becomes simpler and simpler to deploy software ideas.

If you want to get into embedded, consider taking a look at the Espressif offerings (like ESP32 models). Their Rust support seems to be super solid and a first class goal of the company. Overall the way the embassy crate (not Espressif specific etc.) makes "async Rust" easier than using "interrupt driven code" makes Rust super exciting for embedded use. Additionally, I tell anyone who will listen (coworkers mostly) "WASM is the future", but "parts of that future are taking a while to arrive". The component model stuff is super exciting stuff. WASM "in the cloud" still feels like it's just getting ready to really take off. It feels like the PERFECT fit to replace FaaS if nothing else (stuff like AWS Lambdas).
@chrisbiscardi
@chrisbiscardi 7 месяцев назад
I'm working with the pico w's right now but the esp32s are right up there too as the next device type I plan to work with. embassy is also amazing. embedded-hal just hit 1.0 today and embassy updated already: github.com/embassy-rs/embassy/commit/c9ac39df9451e79958c5b9f40b9c8c982d10c241 > "WASM is the future", but "parts of that future are taking a while to arrive" sounds about right to me. I think wasm has a lot of potential and it will be interesting to see if that pans out over time. I don't know that I agree its the perfect fit to replace FaaS. Rust serverless functions are already very good... some other ecosystems definitely can have very long cold start times comparatively though.

I've written half a workshop in Obsidian at the moment and it feels similarly friction-y in the way Notion does. Its pretty good and definitely useful, but also has a few hangups that have been tripping me up. A lot of people are very happy with it though, so perhaps I'm just "one more configuration" away from it being the right choice.

Dude, I think you've underestimated just how much work is involved in making a full, shippable Steam game. If you were working full-time on it, I'd consider it amazing if you did it in one year. Unless you come up with something like a Tetris, where the rules are simple and the game-play addictive. That sort of game can be done in a few weeks, once you find the right concept (very hard).
