Doesn't nominate Lily Gladstone, Dicaprio or Scorsese. Doesn't nominate Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, or Yorgos Lanthimos. Yet both KotFM and Poor Things get Best Film nominations. The BAFTAs are drunk
Just my opinion, but I preferred Ruffalo to Gosling's Ken... especially that crazy dance scene with Emma Stone. His arc from self-assured rake to a whiny lovestruck loser was hysterical. KOTFM and Poor Things were my favourite movies of 2023. Barbie and Maestro are overrated. Guess I'll be rooting for Oppenheimer.
Love for what, Lily Gladstone not nominated for playing an actual woman dealing with zero rights, but nominating a woman playing a woman showing, according to the male director and Emma stone, the ONLY way to illustrate female sexual freedom is with, according to reviews, "shameless, raunchy and horny" using produce and soft porn. Isn't this the first time Emma Stone has consented to full frontal nudity and it is to show this?
people can't be happy, if its predictable they say its boring, if they spice up the nominations they are "rigged" or biased or whatever. Theres different bodies of awards for a reason but people seem to forget that
@@sharona536 It'll probably be close. Picture, Director, Score, Cinematography, Editing, Actor in a supporting role are looking favorable for Oppenheimer, with other potential winners being Actor in a leading role and adapted screenplay. Other craft nominations are with lower likelihood of winning, such as hair/makeup and production design. The lowest chance of winning is going to be supporting actress, but even without that win, it would be considered a sweep.
BAFTA easily becoming my favourite over the last few years (yes, even more interesting then Oscars), they aren't necessarily going with the vox populi and they follow their own taste. That's what movies are all about.

Maybe they didn't buy her attempt to get into Best Leading role. It is a supporting performance, and she has less screen time than DeNiro who was nominated in Supporting Actor.
@josephdigristina2808 yeah but the same argument could be made that Carey Mulligan was a supporting performance (ya know in the film about Maestro bernstein), which is then still wilder that she got in over Lily
BAFTA with it's jury picks makes it kinda irrelevant to Oscars overlap tbh. My take, if you didn't get nominated at BAFTAs its not bad for your Oscar chances but if you did it gives you a slight boost. The BAFTAs are just sooo British. The guilds are the biggest precursors in my opinion. So many actors who miss BAFTA go on to get an Oscar nom and for some they actually win the Oscar. Also Oscar voting closed on the 16th so these won't effect the nominations.
There is a lot more overlap with BAFTAs and Academy Awards these days than you think, and the boost is more than slight. Remember "All Quiet on the Western Front" last year?
The BAFTAs delivered the chaos, and suddenly things are more interesting. "Killers of the Flower Moon" snubs are ridiculous but I'm no longer bored with this awards season )) Also, RIP Charles Melton's awards run I guess? Sad... "The Zone of Interest" is in Outstanding British Film and Non-English Language, so technically it's already in two Best Film categories.
honestly, these nominations are so out of whack that it doesn't really make things interesting, it just makes it feel like the baftas are going to end up looking like drunkards by the end of awards season. like Cooper for Maestro and Payne for Holdovers over Scorsese for Killers of the Flower Moon is one of the most laughable things in any awards show I've ever seen.
I am so sad about Greta Lee but THRILLED for Teo Yoo. That movie KILLED me. It was so delicate and beautiful and bittersweet. Do you think Greta Lee will get in at the Oscars?
I'm not mad about Gladstone getting snubed. She's so overhyped for working with the bare minimum screen time she got. If they had campaigned her in supporting, she would actually sweep. Now snubbing Lanthimos for Cooper is psycotic behavior lol
I am appalled that Lily Gladstone was snubbed for Best Actress. Mark Ruffalo and Leonardo DiCaprio missing SAG, and now BAFTA is NOT A GOOD SIGN. Meltons chances of getting a Best Supporting Actor nomination is no longer a remote possibility. Jeffry Wright missing is a bummer too. It’s safe to say that BAFTA LOVED Oppenheimer and The Holdovers. I’ll tell you what, if Emma Stone wins SAG, it might be over for Lily Gladstone but Tim will only tell
Do they hate Andrew Scott? cuz Strangers get all the major noms except him - that feels personal. Also, why are they so passive aggressive towards flower moon? no actress, no actor, no director, no screenplay, but sure, here you go best picture and editing? I also think the jury selections are so obvious in the acting categories.
Bafta throwing curveballs left and right 😲 2:10 I had the same reaction. Bradley Cooper over Yargos Lanthamos and Scorcese; now that's just a crime 3:35 No Greta and no Lily; but Margot getting in when we know damn well she's not winning WTFfff
@@Jose-sx4qlMargo getting in everything is also a crime, her crying scene in Barbie was blah at best, I felt no emotion watching her cry in Barbie scene
Director n the Acting categories r juried, while Best Film n Screenplays r not. Tt explain y KoFM makes it to best film n screenplay noms n y Lily n Leo misses
3:33 I am biased about this category because one of the absolute best performances of 2023, which got great reviews, when it opened in the UK, Trace Lysette in Monica, was not even shortlisted for these awards.
@@MsTriangle "political correctness" lmfao we're talking about easily a top 2-3 performance of the year regardless of identity. they should be embarrassed for snubbing her
Disgusted with the snubs to KOTFM re the major awards (except best film - which I doubt it will win based on the snubs). Maestro is overrated - Mulligan was the best thing about it. And selecting Robbie over Gladstone for a nom for playing a doll???? No disrespect to her, but it wasn't really that challenging a role for the bulk of the film. At least Past Lives got some recognition.
I’ve said it since they announced it. Putting Lily Gladstone in Leading was a mistake. It’s much too competitive a year and her role is absolutely a supporting role. If she was placed in the supporting category I think she would have had a deserving sweep during this award season.
@@laurajones1773 That would be a all male line up in a year with strong female directors, I think they legitimately would want to avoid that just for optics, if Gerwig is out then maybe Song or Triet has to be in.
yeah holy shit. I thought he was guaranteed and I genuinely believe he gave the best performance of the year by far. It's even crazier considering they nominated both Foy and Mescal
I get the feeling that SAG voters will see the Baftas snub and rally behind her, these nominations sealed Emma's fate and I'm sure Lily is taking that Oscar.
@@Jose-sx4qlYou have to understand that BAFTA is British so they will not be caring about "native" Americans and Lily although gave a great performance had a very short role to be considered a lead actress. SAG voters will have these things in their mind. And I don't see Lily winning SAG.
last year they went completely out of sync with everyone else when it came to wins, and this year they're already going off the rails with the nominations.
Noone pronounces Sandra Hüller's name right 😅 Also Ferrari confuses me as it wasn't in German cinemas at all and is not announced for the future even though it's a big movie?
@@neomohoto8861key difference there is she's in a best picture nominee. Not impossible (Amy Adams in Arrival says hi), but I think it's way less likely
@@leandrocordeiro3739but the thing is Amy Adams actually gave a great performance which deserved to get nominated whereas Margot is in the race only because she is in a so called "feminist" highest grossing movie. Otherwise her performance is very generic and nothing special. Greta Lee deserves the nomination more.
Confused about how the jury system works for the acting awards. Is it some DEI based thing? I find it abhorrent and offensive that Yoo and Barrino were nominated for Actor and Actress respectively.
If they flop again in the acting categories at the Oscar I'm just not going to take them seriously as a precursor for acting categories. I think he jury system is messing things up.
