One of the more unique motors to grace the DM Commuter MPG test, BMW's big-boy cruiser. The R 18 isn't the easiest to ride around in traffic, but I am impressed with the numbers for an 800-pound beast.

Absolutely beautiful bike, but For Eff's Sake it needs at least a 5 gallon tank. They should make the bagger/transcontinental tank standard on this beast. I would definitely buy one if it had a bigger tank. Would also be nice if it ran 87 octane... BMW???

The cap does lock. Just flip the little disc on top of the fuel cap. Your just happened to be unlocked. I have no issues with no fuel gauge. I’ve done a 300 mile ride and love the warning and the automatic trip that show distance since reserve. It’s 1 gallon, so 41 miles till empty.

91 hp for 1.8 litre engine ain’t screaming powerful engine . That’s why it might be working well in mpg test

Charlie, I have owned cars with smaller displacement engines. As a matter of fact, my current car's 1ZZ-FE engine has the same displacement. 😆 If you are going to include metric fuel efficiency ratings, you might as well throw in miles to the Imperial gallon. 🤔

Charlie is it too late to ask for some scooter mpg tests? Really looking at a Vespa 300 or a Yamaha BWS 125. Because I want an "automatic Grom" to have fun in. Would love to hear your take on some of these, especially with current gas prices as well.
