I bought a Indian scout last year and basically upgraded it to be what the chief is now. I'm really liking the Chief, and may consider trading up. Had I known this was coming out I would have waited instead of investing so much into my scout that I could have just paid for a Chief.

Great video! A truly comprehensive comparison. The power train of the BMW is so incredible looking and would really stand out in a crowd. The stripped down look of the Chief combined with great tech draws me to the Indian. However, the new paint schemes and the 114 c.i. motor on the Street Bob make it the ultimate Harley value. The Softail Standard is no longer needed.

Another nice comparo, partner...as an old quarter-miler, I enjoy bench racing. As you pointed out, the figures you have to go by are simply those quoted by the manufacturer, and we all know that rear-wheel power is rarely what they are reporting. Many variables after the crankshaft can affect what is available when one twists the wrist. According to the numbers, my 2007 V Star 1300 shouldn't be anywhere near as quick as it is, but it punches well above its weight, keeping up with almost every cruiser with a twin up to 1800ccs. (13.1 second quarter bone stock.)

I just bought an R18 and absolutely love it. I agree with the gentleman with the Valkyrie. The Valkyrie would absolutely blow all these bikes away. I ventured into the Italian motorcycle market and purchased a Moto Guzzi V7 Stone and was bitten by the nostalgia bug. what character this bike has.When I first saw the R18 I knew BMW had raised the bar. That Harley street bob 114 with the new tank graphics had me jumping out of my chair when it first came out and that hasn’t changed for me. I’ll take the street bob! Besides that, there are 2 Harley dealerships in Tulsa where I live and getting service, parts, accessories are all very accessible to me. There is a Polaris/ Indian dealership right down the road but the service there is very subpar from my experience and I have to think that getting any help from them would require twisting some arms. Btw they also sell BMW and Honda so that seems odd to me, a Polaris, Indian, BMW, Honda dealership? Yep. I’ll stick with Harley Davidson for now.

With good reason though, the chief looks very good and is somewhat different from the Harley. I like where Indian is going with their models. They are listening to what people are saying in wanting a middle weight cruiser with a big twin in it. I'm patiently waiting and hoping for another middle weight cruiser with the 108 OHC engine in it.

The BMW's a winner, from the ride and all but forever forget final drive maintenance but does it have hydraulic valve lash adjustment like the other two ? Also, I like the Indian's lack of primary chains.

The R18 is a sales disaster with many dealers sitting on their initial allotment even for the 1st Edition models. BMW already has $1500 US for incentives on this bike and many dealers will toss in even more just to get them out of the shop. It is a bike made for Instagram, not riders.

Was hesitating with the Indian but went for the Street Bob since I know there is a lot more aftermarket parts available and I always rode on a Harley. But to be honest the Dark Horse is a beauty.

I'm really stuck between the street bob and the new chief. I was leaning Chief before this video and now after watching it looks like a toss up again. Thinking the Harley might edge out a win from me based on customizability alone. But damn does the Chief bobber dark horse look good with the floating pan seat.

Yes! That seat would be going on mine if I bought one 👍

Loved the straightforward presentation and the graphics. In terms of performance however, paper statistics can be misleading, particularly because the Germans are low key with figures. Look at a Porsche Boxster GTS 4.0 vs a Corvette C8 6.2L, both RWD mid-engine and of comparable mass. The C8 has way way more power, bigger tires, and >50% displacement advantage, but in real world performance, the Boxster can walk away from a C8. I rode the R18 yesterday and have my suspicion that it would be the same story.

I think the R18 looks great. Unfortunatley , for me at 6'2" its a cramped uncofortable place to sit.

Thanks for your vids. Very informative 👍 But i have a complaint. I think that the numbers of the Indian are somewhat incorrect. If you compare the 116 from Indian the HP may be nearly correct, but the 116 has at least 120 ft torque (162 Nm). This could really equal up the quartemile 😊 Cheers m8 and keep up with the good work 👍
@BikesILike
@BikesILike 3 года назад
You're welcome, thank you! I'll definitely look at those numbers again for future videos. I'm always trying to find more than one source especially when it comes to horsepower figures but it's becoming increasingly difficult these days. 👍

@@BikesILike Mate, the Indian Chief Dark Horse does have a claimed 162Nm of torque! - it wasn't difficult, just went to the Indian website in Australia. It's also AU$30,495+ driveaway now.

I just started building a 2017 Polaris/victory/Indian Motorcycle, that had been involved in a accident a few years ago. I'm used a freedom 106ci 1731cc motor and 6 speed gearbox, with a dark horse frame that I have had to do a lot of modified fab work to make it work. I've got it right about 95% completely done, just got a couple of things to button up before I break it completely down again and do the final paint job and powder coating. I was trying to get it finished before bike week in Daytona but I don't know if I will be able to do it.

@@SmittyAZ I wish I could show it to you. I just put it as my profile picture,check it out. I took it to bike week in Daytona, and it got a lot of attention to say the least. The day I was getting ready to head back home, this guy who was staying in the same hotel as my friends and I. Asked me if I wanted to sale it, and since that's what I mainly do for a living now I said yes. Two weeks later he's down at my custom Motorcycle shop, in Chattanooga Tennessee paying for and picking up his newly built custom Motorcycle fron my business. Since then I have already finished up building, and selling a Cholo style Road King that was one of my best builds ever. I've had a great start to 2023 already ,as far as finishing the builds on time and selling them.

I waited and got the 21 instead of the 107 on the 2020 everyone I know who has the 107 regrets not doing this and honestly it wasn't even that much more at cost for a bobber cruiser from Harley-Davidson I'm highly impressed especially for people who can't make the cut for the lowrider s or afford it it's an affordable option

The BMW R18 is a classic and high quality bike build in Berlin you will never sell and hand it over to the next generation. Cruise control you can order as option and after test drive the seating position is convenient.

somthing else i ment to say on the bob there must be some sort of limiter because mine wont go any faster than 122 in 4th 5th or 6th that may change some of the results
