2024 BMW R1300 GS | First Ride Review 

These adventure bikes are not for me at all, but I think the 1250 looks SO much more badass.

Such rear lights should be banned. It maybe cheap and looks cool but it is dangerous. Turn signals are badly visible if combined with tail light like this and almost invisible with brake light on. Brake light should be far away from turn signals and tail lights. When positioned so close, tail light should go off on the side where turn signal is on.

I commend BMW for giving this a bit more edge, seems like a worthwhile update to the Touring standard.

Wind management is extraordinary on the 1300. I completed a 1250km day on mine. Utterly love it. (the 1250 was better at low speeds … Quiter and better 1-2-3 gear changes )

So much cooler than the 1250… shit. Set my mind on the Tiger but… need to try the 1300 GS. Only thing is BMW has most stuff as an option.

Hi Dan, great review as always. Had a GS or GSA every 2 years since 2006 until last year, but don't get this one!! had a test ride and yes it's better in some ways but I preferred the "Tonka Toy" feel of the old 1200/1250. can't get over the looks or price, lighter although thats on the basic bike with no extras and not quite as it seems, faster ,I never bought a GS for speed. Will look at the GSA but if it's the same to look at , not for me, sorry BMW . I've been an avid BMW owner for years but there are now better road bikes , in my humble opinion ,for a lot less money..

I test rode the GS1300 two days ago, I agree, feels more agile and more punchy but I did feel the riding position was more leaning forward than the 1250, also I felt the wind protection on the 1250 was slightly better, overall though I thought it was great.👍

It almost looks like a Multistrata now. I like it but I think I prefer the 1250 which looked more beastly

Here's looking forward to when manufacturers are able to integrate reduced size radar units behind the headlight and brake light. A few years from now we'll look back on these current bikes and laugh at how ugly they were with their unsightly bulky radar units ruining their appearance.

The radar cruise and auto blind spot indicators are amazing.

Thank you for the helpful review. I’m eagerly waiting for the 1300 launch in my country. One Q though: Is it really 12 kgs lighter on the version you’re riding though. I read somewhere that the 12 kg weight difference is only for the absolutely base bare bones 1300. And these fully kitted top of line variants are barely a couple of kilos lighter than the 1250. Would that be true?

You have to say BMW certainly know how to charge for their bikes. It might be a decent bike but is it worth 23 grand, not to me it isn't that's for sure.

It doesn't look like scaffolding anymore.

Honestly I like it, looks a bit cooler bit slimmer, sadly though to bit and weighty for me, will you be getting your hands on the new GS 800 and 900?

I generally don't like BMW gs bikes (maybe because the owners of them always claim that there is no better engine and get angry if something is said against the GS) but this new 1300 model really caught my attention. As much as people spit on its appearance, I really like the new design, and the performance is at an enviable level. The price is still too high in my opinion, regardless of everything that this motorcycle offers you.

I agree that a dedicated rear brake light would be good. The front lights, in fact the whole front, looks pig ugly. It's a problem many manufacturers have with LED lights (cars as well as motorcycles). For some reason they make everything look ugly on modern vehicles. The green and gold looks superb, but I think a nice red and gold would look even better.

Looking forwards to seeing the ADV version but from what I hear the improvements are great 👍🏻 for your big review could you see how many wheelie options there are in the dynamic Pro mode. Cheers 😎🙌🏻

If only the radar and headlight swapped places and they dumped the awful DRL's it would be good from all angles. Unfortunately it isn't.

Ordered one, but after delay after delay and issues with the bike I cancelled it and got a new Honda ATAS. Maybe I’ll get one in a couple of years when all the teething issues have been resolved…

Great review ... the reason it feels more poke ... i hear they have changed the gear box ratio ... which is more like the bmw r1250r (2023) model ...

Thanks für the video Dan. I think they should have switched the headlight and the radar. It just looks not good imo. Same at the back, a "normal" brakelight would look much better.

Man, that Green and Gold is gorgeous! If there were a better dealer network here and they were known for better reliability I'd be tempted... then I'd see the price and have to nope back down to the sub 15K (USD) price range. LOL

Thanks for the video. This bike (the Black Ed.) is now challenging the Ducati Diavel V4 top position on my dream list.😁 My thoughts: LIKEs: 1) Weight reduction; 2) Improved/modernized chassis; 3) Height adjustments; 4) Tank compartment (for mobile/etc); 5) Overall more compact appearance; 6) TFT display. DISLIKEs/DISAPPOINTMENTs: 1) Handlebar buttons not lit; 2) Hideous headlight; 3) No Apple/Android connection; 4) Engine still noisy; 5) Quick-shifter improved but it is still not comparable to Ducati's and Honda's ; 6) Overall design of windscreen can be improved; 7) Cumbersome options/modes selection user-interface (not intuitive nor quick). Note: The blinkers in PLASTIC handlebar lever covers is a bad idea (prone to breaking if/when bike is dropped). Those lever covers seem flimsy.

Moved from BMW to Ducati and love the whole riding and ownership experience, not going back…great bikes but they don’t light your soul and the gearboxes are dreadful, even in this version having ridden one.

They made it even more attractive. Now the cylinders are not so wide anymore. Can't wait to try it. Great video bro. Thanks a lot for sharing it. :)

Very funky intro music. Great review but this category of bike has gotten crazy expensive. I’ll be keeping my 2016 Triumph Explorer XRT that I picked up new with 3 bags for $14,000. I do like the looks of the new GS, and I’m sure the 1300 performance is awesome. Cheers from Wisconsin
