Mad Max was never super popular, but this movie wasn't even a Mad Max movie. They overestimated people's interest in Furiousa. Most normies have no idea who it is and if you had to describe her to them you would say "Charlize Theron in Mad Max". This was a Charlize Theron-less movie.

I asked two friends who enjoyed the last movie if they wanted to see Furiosa with me. One said he was having trouble paying rent. The other had moved far away, making the trip too difficult. Cinema is often a social experience, but not everyone can join in due to constraints like limited friends or money. COVID-19 has passed, but the loneliness epidemic remains. So, watching movies alone at home is often more comfortable than going to the theater. I believe the decline in the cinema industry is real. It's influenced by many factors, including changes in cultural and socioeconomic conditions. In my opinion, the quality of films isn't the only issue.

The affordability of giant 4K TVs and proliferation of streaming services are, in my opinion, the two biggest factors. I really think having a female lead is irrelevant when it comes to getting women into theaters. It’s not about the lead it’s about the brand. Mad Max is a “boy brand,” and that’s who’s going to come out and see the movie. Barbie is a “girl brand”and that’s why it did so well with women. Same with a lot of the successful YA franchises that came out a few years ago.

I saw Furiosa twice this weekend, not because I wanted to but because two friends from different circles both asked me to go with them on different days and I'm an A-List member. It was fine, but I can tell you no one I talked to when Furiosa was announced was excited this was the direction they were taking the franchise. We would have much rather seen how the Citadel was founded and a rise of Immortan Joe story if you were going to do a prequel sans Max. What we actually wanted to see was a sequel with Tom Hardy as Max, sadly that is likely to never happen. I thought this was Chris Hemsworth's best acting job as an over the top psychopath, such a departure from his normal roles. Anya Taylor-Joy was fine in the role but didn't bring much to the screen. The way Hollywood can make a come back is smaller budgeted movies that are targeted to specific audiences. Great video Grace!

That includes dinner in a sitdown resto, movies and coffee. So instead of spending a small fortune, most people just watch something together on a fone sharing earphones, munching on snacks while park by the seaside. Hitting digital quickly has probably been a big reason for box office issues. Dune, Oppenheimer, Dune 2 were all made with such stunning visuals and marketed so well for their visuals that it made lots of people feel they needed to see it in theaters. I’m sure Furiosa looks great on the big screen, but it hasn’t had the same hype nor marketing. Barbie was such an event for an incredibly iconic toy that SOOOO many grew up with. And there was the tandem experience with Oppenheimer that likely benefited both of them. So I think it’s movie quality, marketing, and hitting digital so quickly. And yes, stars being on social media and in so many other places now. It makes them feel more ordinary.

Grace i think you are poke to say audience behavior is ruining the theater experience but the audience is a big part of the theater experience. More often than not the audience for me had enhanced the movie whether it's the crowd all gasping in shock at the same moment or applauding together after an amazing story moment or someone in the audience making an hilarious timely comment on the movie. I will never forget seeing avengers for the first time in theaters and during the final fight when hawkeye shot an arrow at loki and loki caught it, my entire audience gasped and in the same moment someone in the crowd shouted "wait for it" and a second later the store explored in Loki's face. And i think we all have many story of unforgettable audience moments while at the theaters. That's the reason people go to the theater. The problem isn't people behavior at theaters or movies are just bad. The problem is the studios aren't presenting these movies as theatrical experiences. Barbie was a theatrical experience, you had to see it in theaters or you'd miss the party, dune we a theatrical experience, you had to be there. As someone who loves going to the movies, there are so few movies that come out nowadays that make me genuinely excited to see it in theaters. I think the biggest thing is convenience It is very inconvenient for a lot of people to go to the theater- the drive, the price, and the audience can be very inconvenient Streaming a movie at home is very convenient

Maybe it’s the area of the country I’m in (coastal Louisiana/Mississippi) but I am an avid movie theater goer and I do not ever have bad experiences. I go almost every other week. Tons of younger people. Theaters in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Gulfport, smaller towns… anywhere with friends. It just stuns me that other places are having such consistently bad experiences.

I think things aren't quite that bad for Hollywood. This summer just doesn't have a lot of exciting films to entice viewers who are spending more on food and gas. Eventually we will get stronger films and the fed will get inflation under control.

Last time I went to the movie was for mean girls and there were a group of teenagers who were just talking and being on the phones with the full brightness on and it ruined my experience and I haven’t been since I decided to take a break

I believe the movie theater experience is over because of: 1. Weak writing. Cable and streaming writing has a better average than movie writing for over a decade. Even some video games have better writing and acting. 2. It's expensive. 3. Lousy theater experience either because of the theater comfort or because of the audience. 4. Many travel for entertainment businesses aren't doing well. People can be entertained turning on a computer or TV. 5. Home entertainment systems have gotten cheaper and better including and the VR headset technology. Then there are people that watch movies on their smart phones.

You'd have seen real footage of arrests in the end credits if you'd actually watched Sound of Freedom.

Hollywood needs to rip the bandaid off and hold these films from digital for several months - there's simply no incentive to spend so much to go to the movies when they'll get at home for much cheaper (if not for free) weeks later.

Before the pandemic it was 90 days contractually.🥲😇 That's where the big numbers were. That's where the moviegoing CULTURE was. Then with COVID they got desperate and caved to a blasphemous 17 day window. Now that we're not in pandemic, they need to revert back.

Furiosa didn’t stand a chance. Fury road wasn’t even that good. Then they put out a prequel that doesn’t star Mad Max in the Max Max saga? Plus Charlize didn’t return to play the character. Are we even surprised. There are wait till it hits streaming films,Furiosa is one of them.
