If you read our massive sub-compact SUV super comparison recently, you'll know that these little guys are very popular right now. So much so in fact, Chevrolet gave us two to choose from, the Trax and the Trailblazer.
In that comparo, both of the Bow Tie models finished close to one another, despite being quite different. Some of the team preferred the affordable charms of the Trax; others, the added creature comforts and practicality of the Trailblazer.
With such a split amongst the ranks, we're posing the question to you, dear reader: which one of these pint-sized Chevy models is the one to get? We'll compare them across a few key categories and let you choose: Team Trailblazer, headed up by managing editor Mike Schlee, or Team Trax with myself.

no brainer, if you live in the city and don't need AWD, save thousands and get the trax every time. If you do then trailblazer.

This is an awesome niche video. Great writing and videography!

While I understand and respect the decision not to add AWD to the Trax, I still wish it had it. It’s honestly the only caveat to ignoring the Trailblazer and just buying the Trax straightaway. I like the Trailblazer too, but the new Trax is a great car in terms of value, simplicity (other than the timing belt, but let’s be honest people can’t afford a simpler timing-belt/chain service anyway right now), and just…honesty? Earnestness? It’s just a good, cheap small car in a way that American manufacturers haven’t done in ever (especially GM). So give me Trax with a wee electric motor in the rear so I can convince my spouse it’s AWD and sign me up!

I've driven the Trax. It's pretty nice for the price. The engine isn't very refined or powerful, but neither were the engines in the economy cars we happily grew up with. The digital instrument cluster can be configured for different looks. The 8" display is smaller than the space it's in, but as they point out it's digital. The 11" infotainment is more spacious. As is the rear seat, for such a small car the rear seat has a decent amount of legroom. Two things were mentioned in the video about the Trailblazer compared to the Trax: power seat and liftgate. If you go for the ATIV it does include 8-way power seat with 2 way power lumbar. Also if you like the Buick the power seat, lumbar, and liftgate are available on all models, standard on the top of the line Avenir. Also in the Buick an interior color other than black. Grey may not be a real color, but you can do other than sit in the dark in a the Buick. The Trailblazer does have AWD and other features, but it is also awkwardly styled. It's needs to be longer to give the angles to flow better. The Trax's longer length not only allows a better look, but that additional read leg room. So it's the function of AWD vs the function of space.

I think “better” is a poor question. To me the question is: which has options you really want? Like for me, I need the fold flat passenger seat for hauling sticks of lumber; the trailer hauling for my small utility trailer; the power driver seat because, due to my back issues, I frequently change my seat positions while driving.

I can't help but think the Chevy exterior design team starts from the front end, then designs the sides, and presents the car. Then, while waiting on a response from higher-ups, someone goes, "oh fk", we forgot the rear end. Every vehicle they make, including the C8.

Trax is the best value in the CUV market. Trailblazer is the best all around Mini-SUV on the market. (non premium). While the boys state it is in the same segment, they really are not. Customers can not go wrong with either.

The 2WD Trailblazer has a CVT transmission. I’m afraid of that.

I have a 2023 Jeep Compass and pretty much no one reviews the vehicle. I have had no issues. The engine and transmission is better than most people would think. Would I say perfect; no, but this vehicle is not horrible. By the way; I’d go for neither one; as well.

I would take both and make a trax with a better features and AWD, cancel trailblazer and trax will be a unbeatable vehicle all day long

Neither I prefer Buick Envista

@@AutoGuide The Envista and the Trax are identical. There is no meaningful Buick quiet tuning, I prefer the Envista styling but the Trax more practical liftgate and square boot will outsell the Buick many times over. I like the Envista. it looks much more expensive than it is.

@@amackclassic6737 This is why I bought the Trailblazer Active for my wife. If our roads were nicer, I'd have gotten her the Buick Encore, which has power seats for the front passenger and trimmed rear doors dual zone climate control and a few other exclusives.
