I know im in the minority but I like it in the segment. It doesn't do anything better than it's competitors aside from pricing but i find it the most attractive entry.
I get it. I have a very expensive weekend car but I’m going to pick something like this up for my sales calls. I don’t need flashy. At least not for this type of car.
I love cars that are dropped and I seen a newer Malibu slammed with the 2024 RS stock rims and this car looks so sexy dropped. I know it’s not a sports car and super fast but for what it is it’s a good car. It looks sleek. It looks nice has a great body on it. It’s really comfortable on the inside. There’s lots of legroom for the passenger and the driver compared to a Honda, I’m not saying that they are better than Honda or Camry but there’s nothing wrong with the Malibu. I don’t know why people say things like that that they’re not cool I think because a lot of people are embarrassed to say that they’re American or it’s made in America. I don’t know what happened to people, but people would rather choose foreign cars, Japanese or Chinese cars Over American built that’s why we’re all messed up and I’m sure people will say Japanese makes better cars than American but they their cars and my opinion the Malibu is a nice looking car specially, when it’s dropped with some nice Rims on RU-vid some guys have some really nice looking Malibu’s but for people to put down another car just because they like another car that’s just stupid that’s just your opinion a lot of people don’t like Hondas they don’t look as good. I don’t think 9th generation looks nice.
I’ve driven the late model Camry and Corolla for weeks at a time. And now I am driving a 2022 Malibu rental which is essentially this same car. The Malibu is hands down the best of the three that I have driven. The smooth drive ability and effortless steering makes the car a joy to drive for long periods of time. Anyone can test drive a car for a few minutes. But try driving any one of these cars all day and I think you will agree. The Malibu is the biggest interior and by far the best car of the three.
I just rented a new Malibu for 4 days and I was surprised I really liked it! The car had a very smooth ride and comfortable seating. I drove city and expressway and no problems! I liked it and would buy one if I needed a car!
Unfortunately not gonna happen, chevy isn’t making sedans after the Malibu anymore, at least with an ice. There are rumours of an ultium based chevy sedan coming in the future though.
I also rented one, drove it across 4 states. It was the best modern car I have driven in years. The comfort, layout of function controls smooth, not fast but it's a sedan. I think Chevy knocked it out of the park, I'm going shopping for the leather 2LT package now. I don't want an SUV! Why take the chance of rolling over in an SUV, cars are built for driving on the road, most SUV's don't even have 4x4 as a standard option.
@@TheDiameterI don't know what you compare it to but I have a 2021 LT 1.5 CVT and it has more power than my impala LS 2003 3.8 and most FWD V6 GM cars made in the past. More acceleration than a 1990 caprice with a 350 v8 engine.
I test drove the 2LT and found mysrlf liking it so much that im going to order a '25 2LT this weekend. Ive had a a car with a cvt, I just don't see an issue with it.
I’m tempted to get one, too. The left over ‘24s are being heavily discounted. I test drove one, and was pleasantly surprised. I found it to be more comfortable than the Accord and Camry.
I thought these were only available as fleet cars by now. It would be a blast if GM was secretly close to finishing a brand new actual sedan to replace this with, and surprise-reveal it with the latest tech and new styling language they are doing on the endless array of crossovers they keep introducing.
Supposedly they are making a new one apparently. That said, Nissan is supposedly going to discontinue the Altima, so I’d guess GM is just gonna take up the whole fleet market with the next one and make something that’s similar to this but “updated”
I have a ‘23 Malibu RIGHT NOW as a rental car. It certainly drives nice enough, and has decent creature comforts (heated seats, wireless Apple CarPlay), but I can’t help but feel that it’s a bit dated. For example, my rental is an LT, but it still has halogen headlights. I rent a lot of cars, and I couldn’t tell you the last time I had one with halogen headlights. And the design, while inoffensive, just SCREAMS “Rental Car” to me. It is perfectly fine as a rental car, but I’m not sure I could see myself buying one.
I have a 2014 malibu (previous gen) with 180k miles and its still running well to this day. I'm itching for a 2023 or 24 mailbu but I'm already paying a carnote on another vehicle that my wife mainly drives. 😆
Why in your right mind would you get a 2023 or 24 malibu? It’s literally the same thing lmao. Get a Camry, Honda accord or hrv which will last you 10x as long as shit chevy
@@chriswilliams9734 why pay extra for the same model? Just go with 2016 model or 17 model it’s the same thing as 2024 model and saving you thousands of dollars
@@Ray-pm1jy lower mileage could be a factor. Most 16-17 models are over 100k miles. He already has a 14 with high mileage so maybe he wants something newer.
@@Ray-pm1jy The HRV is slower and uglier than this, and Chevy dealers will literally discount the car by like 15% to get rid of it. Price to features ratio as of right now is insane. Some near me MSRP for 34.5k and dealers are pricing them at almost a 10k discount. I'm about to go pick one up soon.
Exactly, I might actually consider buying one for my work car if it still had that engine/trans as an option. it is weird that they went with the CVT in this, because the same 1.5 is in the equinox and terrain and those both got the 9 speed. My wife has a 2022 GMC terrain Denali with the 1.5 and 9 speed and it goes just fine. I am just not a fan of the CVT.
Thanks for the review!!! I have a 2022 Malibu, and it's actually a nice car. It's not meant to be a crazy powerful vehicle, but it's still nice depending on the trim level. Lastly, my only complaint is the CVT:(
@@JT-rx1eo I just don't like the drone noise as I gradually accelerate. The premier is more expensive with 250hp. I'd recommend getting a new Malibu because it's abused when used. Now if you chose the last year for the Buick Lacrosse, both engine choices are more powerful than the Malibu including options. I hope this helps:)
It is too bad Chevrolet does absolutely nothing to promote this car. If they did promote it they would sell 100,000 to 150,000 units. Poor upper tier GM management. Not everyone wants SUVs. This is a great car. I know because I own one and am very happy with it.
I currently have a malibu as a rental Driven it about 5800miles right now Very goos car Great performance for a 1.5l Very spacious interior Great ride Although a bit of a cheap interior And the looks are the best in class imo Overall love the car and would buy one myself if these where sold in germany where i live
Thank you for another GM review Ben. It is interesting how cars have smaller engines and more power in 2023 as opposed to the past when engines were larger and had more power. Malibu is not a luxury car. It is a midsized American sedan. I am shocked by the features that it offers. It is quite competitive. The wood trim not so much. It is interesting the Malibu nameplate is still with us in 2023. That is a good thing. Every time I watch your videos, I think of the songs with the name Ben: Benny and The Jets by Elton John, Ben by Michael Jackson, Begging Benny from Fat Albert cartoon from the past. In your case it would be Benny and the cars......LOL! Thank your for the review.
The Chevy Malibu is a pretty good car. My company rented me one for 70 days for contract work ( Sadly I was only out at the site for about 6 days and only worked 1 day before they canceled the contract and wasted my time but that's besides the point). Anyway, in the 6 days that I had the car, I'd have to say it's a pretty good vehicle. I traveled altogether 2,912 miles with the car, and mileage was awesome. At my lowest, I was getting 29.8, and at my highest, I was getting 40.7 mpg and only had to fuel up about 4 times. And that was going from Idaho to Iowa. Which from where I live in Idaho to my destination was about 1,456 miles one way. The fuel range at my lowest was 415 miles to empty to my highest of about 540 miles to empty. Now the one that was rented to me was an LT with cloth seats which for me at 6,4 236 lbs with long legs and long torso with a slighty bad back and bad right knee means I could only go about 500 miles before I had to stop for the night. However, since I was on a tight schedule so, my first day drive was 13 hours, so over 700 miles were traveled. Let me tell you my lower back right knee and right hip were hurting after that. So, this car with those seats, I would say 500 miles max after that, the seat support breakdown. And boy, does that 1.5 turbo have power. Even with the cvt transmission, it was still chripping the tires if you give too much throttle. My one big complaint of the vehicle besides the seats lacking support after 500 miles was the turbo chatter, which after 400 miles will give you ear fatigue cause it's so annoying. Now I don't know if it was just with that car since it is a rental of if turbo chatter is normal or if the rental I had was starting to develop issues with the turbo. Maybe I should test drive a different malibu to compare. Otherwise, it's definitely a pretty good car. Because of those two issues I would give the malibu a mid pack rating.
@@sherrikwhiteside6107Not sure if you bought a car yet, but these are a crazy good value today. Dealers are desperate to get rid of them before 2025 so they can make room for more disgusting crossovers. Has 70% of features that the Camry does and is like 10,000 less dollars.
@@Alejandra-cv7rj Interest rate was 6.9%. Financed $13,000. Monthly payment $306. 60 month loan. I co-signed as this is my daughter’s car. This loan will build her credit rating and will be paid off in 18 months.
My wife had a 1999 and later a 2007 Malibu. They were good cars but nothing special. Having rented cars for work over the years, I’ve driven Camry’s, Accords and Sentras the Hondas and Nissans had nicer interiors (not the Toyota) but mechanically didn’t seem to have any advantage. They were all pretty vanilla cars. Recently, I rented a Malibu and drove it for about 4 days, including a trip from Vegas to the Grand Canyon. I found the car to be comfortable, sufficiently fast and smooth driving. At one point, I looked down and realized I was doing 105MPH. It didn’t even feel like I was going that fast. If I needed a car I would definitely consider getting one.
I was surprised too,but I feel like 2025 will be the last. They’re already talking about dropping the camaros. Sadly Ford stop making fusions, well in America. Sedans are dying in America, and i definitely will not be driving an SUV or hybrid nor electric.
@Bumbumbr-zu5gc 2024 will be the last year for the Camaro. I just bought a hardly used 2021 Camaro 1LT last week. It may as well be the V8 with all the wimpy cars nowadays.
@awepossum1059 Yeah- a 4 cylinder Camaro, some new heavy 2.0L turbo. Still puts out 295LBs of torque. Take care of them you know, not exactly natural aspired like the V8. Those will last forever, but for half the money.
I recently rented a Gry Chevy Malibu and had a scary accident after driving on highway at 65-70 mph for about 30 minutes. When the traffic was slowing down, I was slowing down the car, but all of a sudden, it was out of control zigging and zagging for about 500 feet until it hit the bushes and small trees on the roadside. I feel the had a faulty brake or steering power system. Can someone share the same experience if you encountered the same problem! Thank you ❤
That is a great car for daily driving. I drove my uncles Camry, and that piece of junk shakes and rattles at high speeds. I'll take the Malibu over Dumpry any day!
Lol, what year Camry. I only ask because I’ve had 2 Malibu’s as rentals 2014 and 2020 and both sucked. Rattles, sluggish acceleration, cheap materials.
I recently rented one of these from Dollar rent a car at the airport. Had it for a few days and put just over 1,000 miles on it. The one I had featured cloth seats but had 19 inch wheels, I really liked the way it drove, felt real smooth and I thought it looked nice, I had a gold colored one The only thing I didn't like was the sound system was a little cheesy, it was really bad at first until I went into the vehicle settings and saw a previous renter had screwed up the equalizer controls, I set them back to normal and it was better but not as good as my Nissan Murano with the premium audio.
I have a 2017 im wanting a 2020 or newer..can anyone tell me what features are different? Does it have heated seats? Does it beep when crossing into wrong lane? Im debating over a newer malibu or Accord but i really like the malibus
If i desperately needed a midsize sedan quick, and I couldn’t afford the better options, my first option would be this, but then again, I could buy this or any other car like a Camry used. That’s the main dilemma for the Malibu and a lot of other gm cars, they were competitive when they first launched, but gm runs them into the ground for way longer than needed and doesn’t update them at all
It is a better driving car than Toyota Camry, despite Camry having a power seat, adaptive cruise control, and lane keeping system. I drove a Camry for a week, and I gave it back. Camry is overrated for what it is, and I don’t want a car that is own by everyone else…
WTF $35k for a Malibu 1.5, what a rip-off, way overpriced For a similar price you can get a Subaru Legacy Sport 2.4 TURBO AWD 260 hp Or a well equipped Camry, Accord or Sonata.
@@lucasworktvResale value is a direct reflection of quality and durability. The Big 3 have Kia and Nissan levels of depreciation because all five of them are low quality.
Well cab companies pick the Camry because it is hands down the most reliable and easiest to repair sedan available anywhere in the world. Not to mention getting fantastic MPG and offering upscale interiors at low trim prices… if you’re looking at bottom line cost as a company moving people in passenger cars picking Ford or Chevy would be one of the worst decisions you could make.
@@TheDiameter Non sense, cab companies used the Crown Vic for years and no one complained, before that Chevy Caprices, no complains either, also Ford Escapes etc… where I come from they got Dodge Caravans and now even a few Equinoxes, no complain either Your constant rooting for imports is not only irritating but also plain wrong Yellow cabs tried a Nissan before as a reminder and no one liked it, neither the drivers neither the customers, while a ride in a Crown Vic was the norm for two decades and even more in NYC…
@@taniabanes4707Ah, living in the past, that is in fact we’re all worthwhile American made vehicles exist unfortunately so I understand. However in present day the #1 brand purchased by cab companies and most used by Uber/Lyft is Toyota. Strange, I know, but when reliability and fuel economy matter the Big 3 get passed over.
Sadly,on American made cars, they don’t give you much on lower trims. American cars are just made for looks imo,but you have to pay more to get nice features and even with higher trims you don’t even get all the features, you still have to pay extra and plus these cars are not reliable. But I will say, I love the malibus look,it might be a little outdated but idc. I actually almost bought one for myself after my car got totaled, but I decided to by a 2023 Hyundai Elantra SEL,and it was cheap and pretty much has every safety feature that you see in modern cars today.
The Chevrolet Malibu has a proud heritage. It’s a shame that GM morphed this car to little more than a rental car. Bring back the Super Sport model with a decent transmission and sales will take off.
The mileage per gallon is utterly deplorable!!! For a latest edition 2024 vehicle for a 1.5l & 2.0l engine the fuel consumption is bleedin awful.......Just as well your petrol costs over there are so very very cheap compared to EU to afford running such deplorable mileage consumption
😅Own A 2017 Malibu which comes with a re auto transmission. Don't know why they put a CVT in Malibu. Otherwise it is essentially same car in 2017. For example same engine. I guess I am to have to go hunting for by next car elsewhere.
I like these, but the CVT is a stupid decision. These manufacturers have to stop. Any gas savings I’m getting is negated by the frequent transmission fluid changes I have to do.
This car has 3 insurmountable problems. First and foremost GM “quality”. Second, an underpowered engine. And lastly a slushy rubber band CVT. You combine all three and unfortunately even if every other piece of the vehicle was 10/10 top-of-the-market it would still be average at best.
cruze sonic spark impala and volt all got killed. they are silently killing the malibu by not updating it when it already has a weak engine/trans combo and an older interior design. Imo the 2nd gen cruze made a lot more sense then this malibu. Almost identical power but without a cvt, decently spacious, and has all the same features for a lower price, but they killed it off. I had one and the trunk was huge and the cabin had enough room to comfortably seat 4 average sized adults
@@lucasworktvSo every long term vehicle reviewer and mechanics run for the last 20 years were magically wrong - but YOU are right? Lol, ok, I’ll take your word for it.
@@rebelcave8556 lol, no it doesn’t, I had two as rentals, one with the 2.0t and one with the 1.5t and the difference was night and day. The 1.5t is a dog and the addition of the CVT makes it worse
@@TheDiameter Well I loved it and it was plenty fast. I did trade it in for a pretty new 2021 Camaro 1LT a few weeks ago, a four cylinder muscle car that is still good on gas. Only because it’s more for me, though if I had a family I’d pick the Chevy Malibu. I just wished it had more storage in the interior for such a big and nice car. It was still great.
Seems there's no change in last 10 years, if GM update the interior just like Equinox 2025, maybe it will sells more in China. Chevy almost died in here.
Malibu are good cars but Toyota cars to do the job the best. Toyotas are bulletproof vehicles and you cant go wrong with buying cause you know that it's going to be around for 100yrs to come
