If you are moving to work in Edinburgh it's worth looking at living in Fife, just across the forth. In many cases it's easier and cheaper to commute across the forth bridges to Edinburgh rather than pay the sometimes extortionate rents or mortgages asked for in Edinburgh. Especially in the heart of the city. The housing and standard of living is also often seen as better in Fife and there are lots of affordable new-build houses as well as older/historic properties. Crossing the road bridge is free, Scotland has no toll bridges, and there is also regular Train and Bus services into Edinburgh.

@trevish450 If you would live in Glasgow, then maybe budget around £100 for bus transportation within Glasgow. £40-£45K is quite a good salary for a single person. A lot of people don't earn that much even after years of working.
