New year, new crafting goals! I'll be taking a look back at how my list from this time last year got on, and probably being very optimistic about what I can get done in 2024. Because a year seems so long and full of potential, when you look at it from early January...

So happy You are up and around spreading your joyful message of let’s have some fun with goal setting…..goal no shaming…..goal redefining……goal rolling over….because as 73 year Happy-Ager here in the PNW of the USA…..I feed off your energy and enthusiasm…also loving Dave…..”what a catch”……

My main craft goal is to find more time for it! I just handed in my thesis, so I have a lot more time on my hands (until I get a job, at least) and I've been dreaming of filling it up with cross stitch and sock darning.

I'm so glad you're feeling better. And great job completing so many of your goals! I think you'll enjoy bobbin lace once you get the hang of it. One of my friends does it a lot and it's really incredible. 😄 I did the big scary thing last year and sold my wire trees at a Christmas craft fair. It was terrifying and awesome and I'm so incredibly grateful to my friends who had experience doing craft fairs and were willing to help out. This year I want expand that experience into an actual business. I also really want to finish my outstanding stitches. My brother has been waiting on me to finish one for him for like two and half years now and that's so uncool of me. 😅

I'm so happy the fair went well! It does sound absolutely terrifying, well done you! How much does your brother know about stitching? Maybe you can convince him that's just how long it takes 😂

We are just going through the Covid stuff in my family. Glad you are doing better! You did great this year! And I think it is so helpful to reflect and role goals over (helps me understand time management). I am excited about the shawls and the parking video!!

Oh no, I hope it clears up quickly for you and doesn't leave any of the (heckin' frustrating) longer term lingering stuff. I still can't actually believe how long it took me out for. "Just a cold" my bum! And yes! Goals are fun to have but there's always the possibility of situations changing, different priorities coming up, suddenly you get into cruising and now a shawl seems like a really good idea, etc etc. Nothing wrong with a good pivot, it's still useful to have a written-down idea of where you want to head :)

I had to laugh at you about craft goals. my biggest problem is I have too many of them. I love quilting, sewing, recently I have started pyrography and chrocheting, drawing and knitting. would you believe I was going to cross stitch and made about fifteen gorgous cross stitch project bags and actually put patterns in a lot of them along with threads and bought hoops also. but right now they are all packed away in my she shed. my poor sewing room was over run with stuff. when you have too many hobbies it gets really hard. as for buying hoops ect I broke down and bought the most expensive amish wooden hoop stand for hand quilting and love it! I also have a collection of hand held quilt circles for smaller sizes. one day when I finally get into cross stitching I will most likely invest in a nice wooden stand of some sort. although I do sit in a recliner so it may be something much different then what you bought. I have some of the snap frames but it is so hard to take them apart . not sure if I am doing something wrong but it drove me crazzy so I went with the round ones. love your channel. Linda

Happy to hear that you're feeling so much better. And even if things didn't turn out exactly like you expected, it sounds to me like you did pretty dang good with your ambitious goals for 2023. I'm particularly looking forward to your clothing adjustment adventures in 2024.

So glad you're doing better. 👏👏 I just saw someone showing a shawl that might be perfect for you. It has sleeves. Do a Google search, they have crochet and knitted patterns. Some ships you can ask them to change the temperature for you in your room. Happy Stitching and Crafting. Bye!! ❤👋❤👋❤
@TheGiddyStitcher
@TheGiddyStitcher 5 месяцев назад
Yes the room temperature wasn't the issue thankfully it was everywhere else! Dining room, bars etc. I got through it by repeatedly dragging Dave to the disco and warming up by dancing the night away, so you know, didn't exactly ruin the trip 😂 Any pointers on who you saw showing this shawl off? That does sound like a good direction for my research!

Glad you're feeling better! Good job on your goals! I'm continuing my goal of reducing my wip count of cross stitch projects and I'm going to add diamond painting wips as well. Of course to do that second part I'll have to actually do diamond painting again. I'm going to focus on getting older wips further along and finished. I'm going to attempt the daily thread approach on my Dark Queen of the Sea. I also would like to touch each wip at least once this year. Failed that part last year. And I want to take the time and learn and practice crochet so I don't have to watch a video every time I pick it up. Good luck with your 2024 goals. Oh and one more goal. Stitch from stash as much as possible. I'm on a no buy this month.

You got this! Dark Queen is not the boss of you, you are the boss of her! 😂 Love your goals, straightforward and to the point and much less numerous than mine so much more likely to actually get done lol. Let's absolutely smash this year!

@@TheGiddyStitcher We've got this! Of course I have non craft related goals as well. Get back to my goal weight and into maintenance, practice piano at least three times a week and do Duolingo everyday to learn Welsh. Why Welsh? Why not? I watch a few You Tubers that live there, Torchwood was based there, and there is Welsh in my genealogy according to my brother. He is really into genealogy. I am not.

You always bring a smile to my face. A goal of mine for 2024 is to start designing cross stitch patterns based upon my own drawings and photography. Presently, I am debating on which software program to use? As I recall, you have used Photoshop in the past. However, I think I will splurge on something designed for cross stitch to expedite color and symbol assignments. Is there one that you find attractive?

I'm so motivated by your goals! I really should sort out my own craft goals for this year! Happy New Year!
@Frogglin

I really should aim to finish some WIPs, though I think at the moment I only have one crochet WIP (until I find 7 more in a cupboard I'm sure), and two cross stitches. One of the cross stitches was started in 2015 so I'd be delighted to tick that off the list! Crafty groups and meet ups have appeal, but absolutely everything local is either aimed at retired folks, or making set crafts to sell for fundraising. I'd rather just a cuppa and work on "whatever" sort of group, but not sure I can be bothered starting one myself...

Can always just collect a big pile of things ready for the Fall Finish Along in September, that was a lot of fun last year! And yeah, really the same issue here. I have one same-age local crafty friend who I met on Ravelry ten years ago when first moving here, and I am so grateful for her! Everything else is old ladies meeting at the library during working hours to knit fundraiser stuff and complain about all their grandchildren moving away from the town...I have no problem hanging out with older people but come on! Someone in my Discord is right this moment trying to convince me that a video chat on there would count. Maybe that's a good stepping stone 😅

You did well with your list from last year. I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe but when I think of colours I end up thinking of all the colours 😂 there's a cross stitch syoa (stitch your own adventure) which is lotr based!! It's by cunning cross stitch and I think they are just two parts in. I found when looking for the harry potter one from a few years ago, haven't had a proper look but downloaded the necessary straight away! I'd like to knit socks but I just keep saying it and never do so really I need to get doing. I would love to know how to properly frame my cross stitches so they are straight etc, and washing them would be a great know how x
@TheGiddyStitcher
@TheGiddyStitcher 5 месяцев назад
Haha, admittedly I have added a couple more "allowed" colours over the years, need to keep an eye on that so it doesn't go too far! Accidentally bought a bright pink dress off Vinted recently thinking it was red (my own stupid mistake) but I refuse on general goth principles to add bright pink to the list so at least there is a line somewhere. LotR SAL sounds so fun! I am perfectly happy with the decision to ban myself from such things, but also perfectly happy to live vicariously through the people still doing them. Will have to keep an eye out. And as far as sock knitting goes, well, see this week's video lol.

my goals for this year is to finish my Rivendell x stitch 2 pages to go! And make a meter by meter and a half woven wall tapestry. read 12 books. and do some xbox gaming. ;)
@TheGiddyStitcher
@TheGiddyStitcher 5 месяцев назад
Oh now weaving, there's a potential new craft thought... 🤔 These are such achievable goals, you're way more sensible than me and I am jealous. Rivendell sounds amazing and if it's like I imagine, also very intricate so 2 pages is probably quite a lot of confetti stitching! But you got this, bit at a time, it'll be done before you know it. (Getting more gaming time in would be good here too but since for some reason I'm actually *making* a game, time for playing them is out the window haha)

Instead of looking for events that are hard to get to or that are difficult to fit into your plans, why don't you create some of your own? Maybe a crafter & stitcher group in your area, which can include all of your interests and to teach (and learn from) others. Or a livestream stitch-along of your own. Or a livestream show and tell with other crafters and stitchers. (Not sure how that would work, except maybe on Skype???). This way, you still have the benefit of socializing with and learning from others with similar interests, but you also have greater control over scheduling, travel and other costs, and content, too. For my 2024 goals, I'd like to expand my Ko-fi shop more so that I'm still doing my cross quilting, but I also include more new cross stitch patterns that don't require cross quilting to finish. I'd also like to spend more time actually designing and stitching what I design. This past year was primarily spent stitching samples for things to submit for publication that either got rejected or that I wound up not submitting because publishers want samples EXACTLY LIKE THE PATTERN, and I was nervous about mistakes, so --of course-- I made so many, I felt like I spent more time frogging than stitching. I'd like to change that this year because doing that last year took all the fun out of creating. This year, I want to get my crafter-stitcher joy back and do more things for fun instead of for a deadline. One of the fastest ways to kill joy is doing things in a rush instead of taking your time and doing it because you truly, honestly love what you're doing. Michelle, we're all wonderfully excited to see you all better and back in your game! Your personality is wonderful, you have an awesome sense of humor, and your cheerfulness is ALWAYS a wonderful way to add sunshine to anyone's day. 🙂 Thank you for your awesome videos! And, as you say so often, "Keep making cool stuff!" 😄
@TheGiddyStitcher
@TheGiddyStitcher 5 месяцев назад
Yeah, me and a friend actually did try to get a local group going but everyone just complained that it was on a Saturday and not during the work week. Difficulties of living in an area that is overwhelmingly retired grandparents! We keep trying stuff though, maybe one day it'll stick. (Or we'll retire and give in and just plan for 10am on a Wednesday lol). There's been some talk of doing a virtual meetup in the Discord but...we'll see. It's scary haha. Oops I hit enter too early. Ahem, edited to add: I love your goals, it's all fine and good to try new stuff but recognising when they're sucking the joy out of crafting is equally if not more important. What's even the point if you no longer enjoy it, you know? I think a lot of people get pivoting your plans confused with failure, but you're really just honing in on the best way forward for you! Thank you for watching and for the lovely comment, I am very happy to be back 🥰

Thank you! I might be completely off the mark here (no pun intended) but I think Poshmark might be a sort of US equivalent? If it is, my main tip would be to make sure and look at the details of what you're buying because people are terrible for taking photos in artificial orange light and you kind of have to trust to colour descriptions over photos sometimes 😅
