I’ve been waiting for this interview! Can’t keep Pat to a 10-15 minute interview. Very engaging conversation! Thanks Dave for putting out the great content.
Pat V is a beast! Love his work ethic, attitude towards the love of the game, and drive to compete with anyone regardless of age etc. Definitely podium finisher this year! Cheers from Socal USA
I like Pat’s questions better than Dave’s. Pat’s the only OG guy (I’ve not watched all of the interviews) who’s said CHAD sounds BORING directly to Dave. Actually said “Did you run out of ideas?”. Dave responded with that wry smile so I’m more intrigued than ever. Hope this event has either (1) great media to tell me stories and profiles to keep me dialed in when people are just….stepping or (2) there is a twist that makes this test more exciting.
Pat is an intelligent person, in response to Vellner's question about whether he doesn't watch other events to avoid copying the workouts or ideas and to "stay fresh," Castro replies, "Yes, of course, I have 20 years of experience, blah blah blah... In any other major sport, the organizers and regulations are constantly evolving: Rugby, Soccer, Basketball, F1, Boxing, etc." I love how this "innocent" question from Vellner really exposes the recalcitrant side of Castro.
To sum up Pat Vellners' interview was the most 'professional crossfit' vibes. There is a difference between the OGs and the new era for sure. We'll never get those vibes again.
Funny you call someone going to the games for the first time in 2016 (or 2017) an OG - there is nearly 10 years in between that and the first games. I would argue get some of the newer generation of athletes to a point in life where Vellner is now and you might have a different opinion
@@justine6794 his first Crossfit Games was at 2015.We dont call OGs only those who literally started something. But my point was that he knows and thinks of Crossfit in a quite different way than most of the new gens Crossfit athletes.
Agree with others that this was best interview. I do like all of them, and like getting to know Dave more. Also have to say Pat, IMO, is 3rd best male Crossfit athlete ever! He's a good guy and very intelligent guy.
One the best interviews- wow!!! The legend PV continues !!! So excited to see you have the biggest comeback during the games!!! Thank you both - made me laugh - Chad will be boring unless there is a twist, hahaha agree but let’s see as trust in Dave
I can't wait to listen to Sevan and crew dissect this interview! I would love to hear more of Pats truer thoughts of Castro's responses to Vellner's responses or questions
The men's field is fire this year. I love that Pat mentioned Dallin Pepper, he's got more experience than people realize after his years at the top in the teen division. I'm so excited for the games. I'm such a huge fan! Great interview
This was great...but I really want to be a fly on the wall during those off-the-record questions that Pat has teed up! Pat, you cracked me up how you kept your foot on the pedal...very nice👍
LOVE Patty, probably my favorite Pro. But, I disagree that Chad will be boring. This is a workout thats 'relatable' to the weekend warrior. It'll be fun to watch how fast they can do it relative to us average joes.
I see what Pat did here maybe unintentionally. Dave has expressed that he wants games athletes to get more involved with CrossFit outside of the Games , get their level 1, be part of affiliates , etc. But just like Dave needing to disconnect from CrossFit, so do Games Athletes. Live and let live.

Jaa dropped to see a nearly 30 min interview with Pat and I loved minute of it. How about sitting down and talking with Boz before the Games this season?
Monetize the channel and use the funds to donate to local affiliates in need, or donate the funds to communities who are trying to run CrossFit programs for youths at risk or similar. Would be great follow up video to show some giving back.
The crazy thing about the young female competitors is that they have also been fairly successful at a young age. Not like they’re pulling 35th place. Hayley, Mal, Emma, etc
“I’m sure you guys should know that” Pat, I doubt it. They should’ve known that multiple open workouts were being released early. So many things they “should know”
Dave, here's an idea: monetize the channel and during the awards ceremony at the Games, announce a donation of all proceeds to a charity. I always hate to see a golden opportunity to help others pass by.
I love Pat! And watched this one because of him! Can’t wait to see him compete next month!!! However listening to Dave debate anything Pat says he didn’t agree with is annoying.
Dave is just plotting off of all this information he’s receiving- especially Vellner. I’d like to call that he’s going to reverse the order of heats at the games that way the more “elite” athletes lose that advantage of knowing what they need to do.
Definitely feel like Pat Vellner, just likes to complain about things without looking at the whole picture. I agree that things in life should be fair especially in competition but unfortunately no professional sport is perfect especially with judges. Like I understand the complaining but just quit or do your own thing. I know easier said than done but others have done it.
