Two things I don't like about my lightning is the turning radius and the charging speed. Everything else I'm absolutely crazy about, I would do it again in a heartbeat!

I have the Ford F150 lightning Pro. Cost me only $37k I’m never really worried about range because most people don’t drive 3 to 4 hours straight without stopping and it has access to all of the charging network, including the Tesla supercharger network! So every 3 to 4 hours you simply stop for 30 minutes use the bathroom, get a little something to eat, stretch your legs or take a little nap and that’s it. You’re back on the road. It comes with vinyl seats (which are very good and the last for a long time much stronger than leather even though it feels like a soft leather material) and the 12 inch screen, some safety features including: lane keeping automatic braking and such it only cost me $37k. And it came with the max tow package and Max Pro on board power at 9.6 kW. In my opinion, I got the best possible package. As for the screen for the 12 inch screen versus the 17 inch one it just seems too big but I could be wrong
@p_kf
@p_kf Месяц назад
$37k is pretty solid for such a complete package. Unfortunately like much else, that entry point has eroded and it appears for MY24, the Pro is not even available for retail customers (fleet only at least for now). Though Ford is finally offering competitive lease programs to help fill that void.

I'm a Pro owner, too. Glad to find another person with the same trim. I agree with you on everything. I have no range issues, but have only taken it on one 200 mile trip and got home with plenty of range left. I've owned mine one year and since getting it, hardly ever drive my Model 3. This truck is amazing. Thanks for the post.
@ThunderandLightningEvPickup
@ThunderandLightningEvPickup 10 дней назад
@@p_kf I believe the fleet only is for the long range battery no? For a little while you couldn’t get any of the pros whether long range or standard range and then for some reason, they opened it up to regular consumers to buy the pro. Or in my case, you simply get it used and there’s tons and tons of used Ford lightning pros

The EV range is the same as MPG. You never get what’s promised. I have a 2023 F150 Lightening XLT and I love it!! It’s my daily driver & I charge once every 2 weeks at home, while I sleep. It rides fantastic, the A/C blows super cold and it’s fast. I’ve had an Explorer, an Expedition & 4 gas F150’s. By far, my Lightening is my favorite.

As long as you don't go over 65mph and get a good braking score %90+ Everytime, you will beat the EPA rating in the lightning. I get 2.8 in mine, some days i even see 3+.

Just got a 23 platinum lightning on a smoking deal. I agree with almost everything you said and absolutely love this truck. The only thing I would counter is that I have no problem meeting and sometimes exceeding the EPA rating. I believe it has to do with me only doing city driving and no highway driving. From what I've heard, it's air resistance that's the range killer. Air resistants grows exponentially the faster you go. I heard slowing down to 65 mph makes a tremendous difference. Not saying that's a great solution but in the event you are running low on battery, slowing down a bit can gain you a few more miles to get you to that charging station. So that consumers get a better idea of range based on the type of driving they do, I think they should do the same thing they do for ice vehicles. Have an EPA range rating for both City and highway driving.
@p_kf
@p_kf Месяц назад
Congratulations on on the sweet deal. I agree, I just think further transparency would go a long way. Grey areas and incomplete information is certainly not the way to attract on-the-fence buyers. Ranges are certainly variable due to a lot of different factors, including speed as mentioned, temperature, etc., and the info presented to the prospective buyer should better reflect the same.

@@reagansgames4592 Thanks...So far it's been absolutely amazing. After a couple of weeks of getting use to the torque and smoothness, everything else seems like crap. Had to drive a 23 Ice XLT (same year) for work and it felt like I went back in time 10 years. laggy, rough and slow UI. Even the parking break had a slow progress bar. This same truck use to be fine a month ago. The lightning has ruined me in a good way. lol. Anyways... to answer your question. I am not sure where you live, but I'm in Alberta, Canada. I paid 82k CAN for my 23 platinum which was almost identical to what they wanted for a 24 Flash. That works out to $59 700 US on today's conversion rate. Just make sure you look at inventory prices of every dealer you are willing to drive out to (prices can vary by a lot). Some dealers got caught ordering too many unaffordable platinums when things were hot. Now with 25's looming in the horizon, they need to unload them yesterday. Good luck. I hope you are able to find one at a smoking deal too. In the unlikely event, Alberta is in your buying range, let me know and I'll tell you what dealer I bought mine from, they have one 23 platinum left.

I just got the Ford F150 Lightning Flash a week ago and I love it so far! I agree that its a great commuter vehicle. I travel 80-100 miles round trip to work daily which is why I was looking for a vehicle that was fuel efficient. I just purchased the Ford Pro Charger for my house to reduce any anixiety on that end. I tend to put alot of miles on any car that I own. Luckily, I know how to maintain a car to help it get 200K+ miles without it letting me down in the middle of the road. There is a paradigm shift with maintaining an EV. Doing my due diligence to see if I can get the same type of mileage from an EV battery. I may purchase the extended warranty to fully protect myself.

For longevity sake, Best to minimize Fast DC charging. The slower it charges up, the better. Even though they gave me the 100 amp Pro charger "free", I use the smaller 30 Amp one at home because even that is easily quick enough to get me charged up for my use case. the 100 amp one that you just bought is sill fine and charges at around 19kw. It's the 150 kw ones that causes a lot of heat and wear and tare. It is also better to do a lot of small charges, like every night, as opposed to waiting several days for it to drain down and do one big long charge. It's also best to keep away from the extreme ends of full and empty if at all possible. In other words if you can set your battery to stop charging at 90% and have enough for your daily use, that will keep your battery living for a long, long time. At the other end, it's always better to not get near 0% before you start charging. Look for acharging spot around 15% to 20%. These tips are solely to eke out every little bit of longevity from the battery. There is nothing wrong with going to 100% or to do DC charging, especially if you only do it once in a while. The warranty on the battery is for 8 years. Not sure if they will they extend that further or if its necessary.

I commute 100 miles a day in ruralandia. No freeways, no traffic, just beat up roads. The LT Lariat ER charges at home, nails the 310 mile range estimate Mar-Oct except for Nov-Feb when it drops to 270 due to lower temps, greater headwinds, wet roads. Not all of us live along 75-80 mph freeways. Best truck I’ve ever had. Out pull my ‘99 7.3 SD. Like driving a Lincoln on steroids. Wife prefers it to all others. Pulls my boat, cargo, trailer @ hauls ass. Power at $.063/kwh saves me $5K net per year over gas. Also, your Flash review is pretty good. The new ‘25 prices turns our LT ER into a $100K truck 😳 equal to 4 Mavericks. Came within inches of a Mav hybrid. purchase in ‘22. The EVs are just too expensive and w/o charge at home.. hard to justify as DCFC charging is $$$.

When she rides in other people's vehicles she now feels like there's always problems with them cuz they're so loud and noisy.

I live in "Bring Cash" BC where theres insane taxes and fees and fuel proces aren't friendly, so part of the reqson im considering this. For me to drive up to kelown and back is about 250 to 300 just in gas in my raptor, so this could help with that and the trips. I'd just have to get used to stopping and charging.

I love my Lightning. I have the 23 XLT 98 kwh battery 240 miles of range, I figure coming from a Tacoma with 300 miles, 240 was doable since I mainly use the truck as a commuter vehicle to work and I replenish my range every night at home. One pedal driving is my best feature with the lightning amongst storage, speed, outlets, no oil changes. And I got to say the supercharger access has made this truck much more competitive and valuable and Ford has greatly improved the Ford pass app where you can activate third party charging stations through the app if plug and charge isn't supported. It's a great truck overall except the towing part which I've done once in my lifetime of driving trucks .

You’re right that it could be considered deceptive to only quote one range, but I think we need to get off of range estimates entirely and start quoting efficiency, in both city and highway, just like ICE vehicles. The problem is the single range estimate is a combined city/highway, and EVs are more efficient in city slow and stop/go situations. At worst, if we’re going to stick with range estimates, we need to get both the city and highway estimates.
@mrspeigle1
@mrspeigle1 13 дней назад
Personally I think highway only is the way. City range is largely irrelevant as a consideration unless your driving for uber.

Between two vehicles at our household, we put over 30,000 annual miles on our EVs. One has a small battery with 100 mile winter range and 150 summer. The other can do 250+ per charge. We charge on a single 24 amp circuit, downgraded to 16 amps for daily driving. It's far from a lifestyle, they are capable appliances, no different from home HVAC, laundry and cooking appliances. Of course, one needs to plug in at home to gain these advantages.

They don't get the EPA range at 75 mph. That's gaslighting. Of course they don't get the EPA range at 75 mph. The mileage on my 2018 3.5L EcoBoost is within the margin of error when compared to the test parameters, but if am at 75 mph, my mileage drops dramatically.

@keithlambert6217 17 дней назад
I’m not defending the accuracy of mileage estimates, but wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s ‘deception’, a 75mph test for EV mileage is a test based on the exact opposite of EV benefits. Most drivers statistically don’t spent the day on the highway at 75 continually, some do most don’t. That’s the worst test scenario for any EV brand, EV’s get their ideal mileage performance in the city for stop and go around town (80% of driver use case). I found this as a surprise as it’s the reverse of ICE performance. Not picking a fight or saying that’s not true, but it’s not deceptive knowing how and when an EV is most effective.

Another example of not understanding the EPA rating. The big displayed number is the combined drive range on the EPA cycle. It is not, nor has it ever been, hwy mileage a 70-75 mph. No vehicle gas, diesel, or otherwise gets the combined EPA range when on highway only. They may be less or more, but they won’t consistent match EPA

Irrespective of the calculation, the bottom line is that it’s indisputable that these vehicles do not get near the “mpg” or range as quoted on the window sticker. Whether it’s my AMG G63 getting 12 mpg or grandma’s Ford Focus she had 20 years ago, fact of the matter is that the driver achieves numbers relatively on par with what’s provided and knows what to expect. That’s just not the case with the great majority of EVs and improvement in clarity and expectation is needed for the benefit of the consumer.

@@p_kf GM seems to have a conservative approach to the EPA numbers. My 2024 Lyriq posts a 307 EPA mile battery range and the guess-o-meter was giving me consistently higher range estimates. So I ran a test run on the PA turn pike well past the "low" warning when the miles estimate is removed from the display. So, when my nerves could not take it any more I limped to a DC fast charger and plugged in at 321 miles and the car reported 2% on the charger display. The guess-o-meter was on par with the test run. Ten minutes on the DCFC got me home and brought it back up to my 70% normal charge using L2. My testing was at night and my speed checked at 70 MPH and did not use super cruise.

Driving conditions can obviously affect, but if people see enough videos saying that the EPA range is way off, then they should be able to draw a proper conclusion.
