I love that aspect that it's forgettable, still makes up a good case that it's a Merc though, I don't find it ugly at all. Eish on prices, yah it has gotten to that now, Chinese have disrupted everything that we cannot even see the "why" in choosing Germans right away anymore. Honda is solid and will most probably outlast most cars (not forgetting Mazda and Lexus) but due to what the customer perception is, they should have kept that car at R800K😭😅

😅😅😅, don't kill me Vincent, at the end of the day we are Blessed to be driving some of these cars, even when borrowed, we will get there. Otherwise, I always argue my case with Germans and Fords the same way you do, some don't believe me on Fords and I immediately think they are Toyota/another brand fan hence they don't know but find a Fiesta/Ecosport and drive anything competing you will see what I am talking about. This one is honestly a solid build, yes there are some Mercs that need screws to be tightened but not this one🤞🏾. Thanks a lot Vincent🙂

@@sebuwam Yeah ford behave very well on the road, and the fiesta was so much fun and solid on the road, it drives better than my polo 😅

​@@vincentmothapa2421 Fiesta is one of the best driving cars out there. If you experience it, you will get why Polo can't beat it. Polo is overall a better car in terms of appeal but not how it drives.

I have friends who complain about that, unfortunately a good 4x4 that you can live with daily here in Gauteng and occassionally use it in EC will be an expensive car, otherwise I agree, the roads that side are not for any car nje😅😅😅

Honestly, I never approached BMW, mostly because their details are not available and it's like "secret service" level of clearance that you need to get to them.😅

I pray to get it, tip: they don't easily respond to request.🥲

Sorento is a clear winner. I am saying this with a sober mind. Forgetting that I love this car for a minute.

😅😅, you just put a spanner in the works. Honestly it is very difficult for most "traditionally" luxury manufactures to sell cars these days because material use+power and that premium feel can be obtained at half their offer prices so the sentiments keep some customers coming. A Chery can chase the GLB off the fast lane and even make a customer question whether this is a better offering, who could have thought.🤔 Otherwise as a car, I love it, I understand it due to it's understated design and I'd pick it over some cars purely because I love it but soberly when putting economics and value, it will be difficult to take it.

I always wonder who they are targeting, because South Africans generally don't earn enough to afford million rand cars. Well I guess there are those who do and who would choose a nice car while living in a bachelor apartment 🤷‍♂ or maybe there are more rich people than I've been exposed to

Unfortunately you did not lie but it's deeper than that ey. When you watch documentaries on European labour markets and so on, you realise how deep this runs. There are other countries that can make cars better with half the time spent by Germans for examples, so it is not easy to keep up currently. Unfortunately as consumers, we are seeing and feeling it.🤞🏾

Well, now that's a real ownership experience right there. I just love it honestly. I think 6.4L is honestly not bad considering it's peers (currently in the market) may struggle to return that kind of consumption. Seeing that you have E350 and also the W203, those might have really influenced how you see it as a car overall. It is no secret that W204 C-Class and related generation was cut-off for the kind of quality Merc was using. When they introduced this small cars, the aim was surely to cater for a market that could not have otherwise afforded Merc looking at how "luxury/premium" is perceived. A clear example is Chery, the craftsmanship and quality are done well on the Chery, can't say the engine matches any 220d from Merc in refinement. The difference in price probably lies in the kind of labour force that Merc attracts (taking history into account, design and engineering work in Germany will never be cheaper as it can only keep rising from what it was back then) and China attracts (due to abundance of similarly skilled if not more who have efficient ways of doing some of the things at half the price and time). What I am trying to say is there is a lot that led to Germans finding ways to reduce costs and unfortunately that was in the kind of materials they used because W203 could not be put in the same sentence as any Toyota that was in the market at that time for example (Put Cressida aside) but now you can put a GLB with a Kia and ask yourself, but why take the Merc. We have to accept that things have changed. Otherwise, most Mercs, especially mild hybrid ones needs some getting used to in traffic, add stop-start and you may be confused as to what is happening, I experienced the lurch but never the clunk and was mostly satisfied with the suspension.

@@sebuwam I can definitely accept things changing if the price reflected the drop in quality. Unfortunately it hasn't. If I were in the market for a 7 seater SUV right now, even if I had over a R1 million, I wouldn't get this GLB. Rather save quite a bit and get a Tiggo 8.
