My 2024 RAM HO averages 17.0 mpg after nearly 3,000 miles. I have a bed cover and run the exhaust brake all of the time. You can't beat the reliability of the Cummins and Aisin transmission. Stop and think about all of the extra equipment on the Ford and GM V-8s that could fail compared to a straight 6. The Ram is built for towing and is a truck, not a comfortable sports car with fast 0-60 times.

Rams are 10-15k more than ford and GMs and they were designed in 2009 no thank you.

@Back_door_bandit_979 Not mine. I talked them nearly 10K on my model and they installed the heater block cable for free. Paid off my trade in truck with market value. They are finally adjusting prices. You just need to work with them or see a dealer outside of the big cities.

I don’t always agree with you JB, but when you said every dually should have air suspension and a 50g tank I couldn’t agree more! Honestly I think every HD truck should have a 50ish gallon tank.

I ordered my 24 Chevy HC midnight duramax and paid 83,500 OTD for it. I was looking at a 23 Ram 2500 Laramie Cummins that was heavily discounted at 79k. If you know your blue book, Ram 2500s do not hold their value since there is a 500+ day supply of them out on the market nationwide. That truck would have plummeted in value in 6 months. My chevy has every option on it. The Ram didn't have adaptive cruise, a bed step, a bed liner nor a 360 camera. I see a lot of Ram HDs out there heavily discounted with 13k off MSRP right now that are still in the 80s for a Laramie that lacks options. GM has the best bang for buck right now IMO. I still like the Ram and always will, but I have to see some major improvements at that price point, because this new chevy tows like a dream and handles very well. Right now it outperforms the Ram IMO. If you're going for the Ram, get the 3500. They tend to hold their value way better.

GM transmissions learn the load. They automatically slow you down when it senses a large incline and heavy load. Also, cruise control plays a big part of the system. I drive through the mountains often and it works like a dream.

I have a 2500 and the transmission is the best I have ever been around towing. It’s almost like it knows before I do what I’m going to do. It’s always seems to be in the right gear.

Yea everybody hates on the exhaust brake, which, don’t get me wrong…. Both Ford and Ram’s are better….. but Ford and Ram exhaust brakes immediately kick in full swing with one tap of the brake…. And I know that’s how it’s meant to be for regular, heavy towers…. But on my ‘24 Chevy, although it isn’t anywhere near aggressive on a regular basis, that exhaust brake is extremely powerful whenever the truck senses the load and steep decline… one confident push of the brake, and it downshifts to get the engine to 3300 RPM… it’s worked just fine for me
@billylee2312
@billylee2312 5 месяцев назад
@@nickfruge5639 That’s how mine works also. I actually like it because it holds you at the speed you want and you don’t have to hit the throttle because the brake slows you down more than I want. Seems to work the same with 6,000lbs or 14,000lbs. I like it well enough

Nice comparison JB. I agree that Ram needs an 8 or 10 speed tranny. I must add, though, the Cummins engine is at its best for MPG when it's pulling a load. Not only that, but I've seen the RAM out MPG Ford and GM on the Ike.

JB your 6.6 gasser was faster than that Cummins HO but you called the gasser slow… the gasser had much taller tires and higher gearing too…

Nice review. So a few things I want to point out. 1) this shows that no two trucks are the same performance wise. The GMC was a lot slower than the other GM trucks you have tested. With that said though the Ram is always going to be the slowest. It doesn’t have a choice with the inline 6 engine with the exceptionally long stroke. 2) come on JB! Drop the Ram fanboy and just say it! You DOGGED your 6.6 gas Chevy for being slow and it was faster than this Ram! So come on man. Fair is fair. 3) another knock for the 4.xx rear ends lol. That had something to do with being slower to 0-60 and it most definitely had something to do with the fuel mileage. The Cummins should have beat the Duramax on fuel mileage. They typically do. To sum it up, Ram is not even in the same league as Ford and GM currently. And they can’t claim the value card now either. They better do more than just catch up in 2025. Getting a bigger cab will go a long way but they need something innovative OR they need to undercut on price significantly to be able to compete.

RAM needs a 10 speed gearbox to compete against Ford and GM transmissions in the HD segment, an 8 speed is worthy of the Cummins as well but the gearing (rear) must match the range the RPM and torque curve that the Cummins can keep up in the powerband.

Yea it is time for Ram to step up. The Cummins is still the best motor, but Ram needs to step it up. They also need to consider lowering prices or at minimum no more cost increases
