I remember that original comparison you did between the GR and the Type R and how everyone in the comments kept saying that you didn't know what you were talking about so it's so cool to see that the guy that bought that same car confirm the exact same things you said in your video it shows that you're a non biased reviewer.

I’d get the GR just cause it’s unique and you don’t see them. It will hold it’s value more than the VW

I just picked up a Blue Flame GRC and I find 1-2 can be a bit rough if I come off the clutch too quick, but if I let the clutch slip for a second it's pretty smooth. This is also the first manual I've owned and it feels better than some of the cheap manuals my friend and family let me drive and learn on. I've also never had any issue shifting into 6th. It almost seems like that one is a rare Toyota lemon.

My late 2023 GR Corolla Core drives beautifully and I just love the gear change. I have owned 170 cars plus (lost count) and this gear change is for me the very best. An exceptionally fun car to drive.

1st to 3rd shifts are a bit rough unless you're doing a pull. Ive noticed that is mine over the last month. I may need to do that motor mount swap

Great comparison I think both vehicles are evenly matched but I choose the GR Corolla because of the AWD.

Thanks for sharing! I didn’t think this comparison would be out there, mainly because I feel like most compare the golf r to the grc. I’ve been torn between the two of these. I have a 50mile round trip to work and half of that is in stop and go traffic which is making me lean more towards the gti, but still want to know I can have fun on the back roads on the weekends. Would love to see a long term review posted on this car.

I have a GRC and the 6-speed transmission is fine - an above average stick. Grinding 1st-3rd I have not experienced. Sometimes, downshifting into 2nd isn't the most satisfying but overall an enjoyable tranny. I won't opt for any mods unless Toyota offers something to boost horsepower that doesn't void warranty.

Goes back to everyone's preference. Other cars are sports cars, or sporty cars, race cars or racy cars. The GRC is a rally car. Like the STi, Evo, Celica All-Trac (GT-Four) before it, there are not rally'ish cars. they are rally cars. WRC regulations keep them using an old formula which when in production form, they are Lumpy, laggy, mud/snow cars. Some people love them, some don't care for it. I own A premium and have driven core, they are nothing like what you said in the video. they are easy to drive easy shift, easy to drive in stop go traffic. ungodly power. you may want to have your car check. I have not driven a Circuit " tack car" Gearing suspension, tires are different. I have owned some road /tack cars they are not very fun to drive on a public road .

only thing id say the mk8 has on the grc is interior looks, more mature driving manner and style. i have an mk7.5 now and im looking at grc's. real e-brake, awd and 300hp on the grc makes it a better option alone. an interior that wont drive you crazy using it as well unlike the mk8. if the vw kept the mk7 interior it might be a closer fight

I test drove a GR circuit this week and it made me giggle. Looks like I’ll be buying at the end of this month. I did really want the Type R but I think it’s just too serious of a car. I already have that experience in my Porsche. This will be my playful daily that I could beat on and enjoy the smiles per gallon.

I’ve heard some horror stories of the clutch on the GRC however I see far less issues with the clutch. Many of these issues seem to be with the 2024’s. I have a 2023 premium and have had zero issues and I’m at 32k miles

Maybe it's that specific GR - had a Core since August and I don't have grinding issues or can't get into a gear. I do need to be gentle with the clutch when shifting in lower gears, but wouldn't call it grinding. Pitch mount is defienlty a great upgrade plus thr Forge Motorsport short shifter.

love the idea of this car but if the shifter sucks that's a deal breaker if it's 45k

Dude you gotta do research on your car facts... you said Harmon Kardon on the GR when it's JBL. Maybe when getting older priorities change but I hope to keep mine for a long time, so favoring reliability.

That tint is really nice. Like the color too. Those cold air intakes ain't it man. Robbing the performance. GR Corolla is a ton of fun on the streets. Seems like he bought a low quality Japanese variant. High quality my A double snakes.

Growing on the circuit edition, the core looks so bland. it's the hood and spoiler, and it makes it look good. He just needs a full lip kit and wheels and lower it. And it would look super nice!

I got my Gr this weekend!! It was over a rainy weekend in South Fl, it's breakin period but still had some fun. 🎉

My 23 GRC core is flawless shifting. Kinda weird grinding.

GTI is more Luxury and for everyday i take GTI but Reliability is GR, also GR is AWD

GTI for sure. GR seems overpriced and the interior feels kind of cheap. I think I appreciate the maturity of the GTI over the race car vibes of the GR

11:35 my GR Corolla shifter in not bad at all 😭😭😳 I test drove an fl5 civic type R and the transmission is not that much better it just feels more gated the GR stock shifter isn’t as harsh as you guys say 😂

Sorry but the tint looks terrible. I don’t even like the look of looking out of the tint from the inside. Also if that was Australia, it would be illegal. Our place is a nanny state.

I have no issues with my shifting on my GRC but I love the mechanical feel of it much more than the FL5, GTI, or Golf R. The MK8 GTI has the terrible steering wheel buttons and Entertainment/HVAC system. Plus think about the reliability history of VW and it's not very good. They are fun cars to drive but very unreliable. The bottom line for me is the GRC was the most fun to drive, period. The GRC is more like a caged animal. But in Florida you don't have any fun roads to drive like I do living in the PNW. And trust me, it's a blast to drive on the back country mountain roads and the engine and turbo do just fine moving it along the twisty mountain roads! Not a fan of that tint, looks like it's out of the 70's. 🤣 And I just can't get used to that Blue Flame no matter how much I look at it. Yuck. Good thing he found the shipping spacers in the springs, it amazes me how many dealers of all brands forget to remove them. The pitch mount upgrade is a popular one though as it allows owners to dial in the shifting feel in addition to the shifter bushings and base bushings. He will have a great time driving his GR Corolla. He needs to take a road trip up to the mountains in Georgia, Tennessee, and NC to realize how much fun it can really be. He won't stop smiling. In fact he may want to move so he has some fun roads closer to drive! 🔥🔥🔥

That’s crazy because I feel the same way about the car too. I couldn’t put a name on what it was but after driving Ques it definitely changed my perspective of the car. It still fun car overall. That tint is dope! I may take that swag and put it on bluprint

not fanboying over my gr but, i have a ‘23 circuit edition and never experienced any of these shifting issues. any time a gear slipped or grinded (is grinded a word?) was because i screwed up the shift.

AWD > FWD No brainer.

As if you can just waltz into your local Toyota dealer and buy a GR Corolla at sticker, if there is even one at all.

Gr corolla will hold value way better and no one wants a gti maybe golf r vs gr corolla but gr is way more rare

Really , the only weakness the GR corolla has is size. If it is the size of a Mk5/6/7 GTI....and also come with a spare tire, The GR corolla is the perfect do it all vehicle. Its annoying that owners have to add a spare tire and cut up the foam box in the trunk for the GR corolla.
