Great motivation to get a once a week fast going. I’ve been doing a 20-24 fast twice a week but it isn’t quite the experience of a 36-40 hour fast. Age 61 here.
Thanks for the comment, Janana and good luck! I somehow feel that there is a lot of benefit to be gained in the the final 12 - 16 hours (second overnight), although it definitely increases the challenge level. But I also acknowledge that there is a tolerance level to fasting that may be unique to everyone. I'm a big fan of gradual adjustments as my 15 year journey suggests!
I lost 18 kgs / 39 lbs doing OMAD. NEAT, with resistance training WHICH IS MUST and no specific cardio was done. It worked for me - but there is no guarantee it would work for anyone else. When tracked which was rare - my intake comprised of 60% fat and 20% each from carbs and Protein.
Hey tim, I'm on my 2nd month of caffeine free and it's brutal. I even screwed up going on a date because I feel like I give off a depressed vibe now and i guess my voice is very low now, I have to remember to speak up. Just because I guess I'm zapped for energy most days. Kudos for having the willpower to stick with it, I'm not sure if i can. But I would really like the benefits because I've struggled with anxiety too. Do you ever regret giving up caffeine?
Thanks for the comment, Marty! I can totally relate to everything you’re saying and I struggled with these same thoughts and doubts in my first year of caffeine withdrawal as I show on my channel. As of now, though, I never regret giving up caffeine!! The anxiety benefits have been significant in improving my quality of life. The energy/depression vibe has modulated to a more natural state that I actually enjoy. Unfortunately the first year of withdrawal was (as you say) "brutal" at times. Another reason why I never want to go through it again!
I think that is a common sentiment during most addictive-drug withdrawals (alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, opiods, cannabis) Unfortunately, the uncomfortable withdrawal period for caffeine is exceptionally long - lasting up to a year, causing the majority of people to give up. I think most people did enjoy their youth, which for many didn't involve caffeine!
You're right....actually have been thinking about that lately.....bad anxiety started right around senior year of high school....same exact time I started drinking monster energy drinks......never drank coffee before that or anything other than hot chocolate......and was always happy go lucky before that......
I`ve also fasting every week for 36 hours for like a year or two (can`t tell exactly because it feels so natural). I feel alot better that before + my stress level dropped (I am under pressure right now, but fasting keeps me more sane). What I fing interesting if I miss one week without fasting, than next fasting (after two weeks) will be hard, but then secon fasting will be easy again. By easy I mean that I am feeling more energetic, charismatic and more interested in life itself! Are You also experience something similar in You`re energy level? By the way, I`ve found You`re channel 4-5 years ago when I was quitting caffeine - it`s one of the single greatest things for my well being, thanks for You`re job!
Thanks so much for the nice comment, Ivan! As you can see from my fasting chart, I do miss fasting weeks here and there (because of travel, visitors, or other life conflicts), and I do find it is a bit more of challenge when I reengage with a full day fast after a delay. I’m always happy to get back to it though and - as you mentioned - it feels very natural to me once I’m back on my routine. No matter what though, a 36 hour fast is always a bit of a challenge, but I like it that way!
Thanks for the comment, AAO! I have three main tools for controlling my weight: Exercise, limiting sugar and periodic fasting. During Covid the gyms and pool were closed - and I was not eating great either - so I tried to compensate by increasing my fasting frequency. Once things opened up again, I found that I didn’t really need the extra fasting day, so I discontinued it. So its not so much that it was bad for me, but I just felt it was superfluous.
