The unwarranted hate towards the new Daytona 660 is astonishingly stupid. The only people complaining about it are folks mad that its not a track oriented super-sport on par with the ZX-6R. If you actually look at the specs, the Daytona 660 has the highest power/weight and best power/price ratio in the entire middleweight market. People are complaining just to hear themselves talk, and even if the bike was a super-sport that weighed 10 kilos less, had 40 more hp, and a super aggressive track-oriented riding position, 90% of the folks bitching wouldn't even buy it, because it'd cost $15-16k minimum. Its just the vocal minority complaining about the bike.
Using the Daytona name is like a double-edged sword. It might boost sales, but it also pisses off the die-hard Daytona fans. I think if triumph named it trident rr or something like that would solve the problem. If it's a really good bike, people will still buy it no matter the name is
@@SecondGearYT like I've said, on paper, its the best bike in the entire middleweight class, particularly under $10k. Only the RS660 beats it out, but its nearly $3k more.
@@loftyintentions1985 the 650 is a Sports Tourer bike, like its big brother Ninja 1000. It was perfectly fine when it came out nearly 2 decades ago in 06' because it undercut all its potential competition by atleast a couple thousand $. Its closest competition would have been the SV 650S, which is more of a naked with a windscreen. Now, while it's still the cheapest middleweight bike, it no longer holds up because it hasn't kept up with advancements made in other bikes. Yamaha and Suzuki both went the route of "you either get a track bike, or you get a naked bike, no in-between" atleast until the GSX-8R this year. And, lets face it, nothing Kawasaki could have done to the Ninja 650 would have made it truly compete with the CBR650R once it came out, even if it was cheaper. So yea, now it feels sluggish and soulless, but 15 years ago, everyone wanted a Ninja. It was literally a household name. I knew the Ninja as a 10 y/o before I even knew Yamaha, Suzuki, and Honda made bikes.
@@AdeptusAmogus they could have upped the power though and made the rider triangle a lot less upright. Doesn't seem like they've developed much or anything and the only selling point is the ninja name. I haven't seen the older ninja thousand so can't comment on rider position but the latest models don't look massively vertical.
@@Ghost_stealth_ This technology basically requires sensor that is used by quick shifters. And on most tests it looks like an advanced up+down quick shifter (not only firing and fuelling timing is controlled but also the clutch engagement during up/down shifts which leads to really smooth shifts - smoother than most standard quick shifters could ever do).
@@PsyKotyK I am from Belgium, ours get delivered somewhere around the end of this month according to out dealership. Last I heard, the 2024 model is not coming to NA
People main complaint about the Daytona is the Daytona name, that bike for that price is goldilock, lets hope triumph makes a daytona 675 the same way Honda has the cbr650r and the cbr600rr.
there is a reason why the 675 discontinued worldwide meanwhile the cbr600rr never got discontinued only went hiatus in europe due to the eu euro5 regulations
@@chillglobe its not a sports tourer lmfao. It's just not a "Supersport." Thats like calling the Honda CBR650R, Suzuki GSX-8S, Aprilia RS660, and Ducati Supersport 950 sports touring bikes, simply because they're more upright than bikes like the R6/R7, CBR600RR, and ZX-6R.
hearing the sound of the two bike in comparsion the daytona is like a very angry person and the cbr is like a person who is having mental breakdown :DD both sounds great
I’ve got a cbr650r - it’s a great bike. So many great bikes available these days you can easily find one that suits your specific needs and it is practically perfect for me. And you’re right - the Honda reliability “legend” is accurate.
Lucky you, I can't find any Honda CBR650s at any dealers around here. They are expecting to get 1-2 in the region in the spring, I suspect that they will be gone before I could try one out for size.
@@inessadygal4726 There’s a dealer in West Tennessee that usually has them - don’t know what part of the country you’re in. I’ve got one and I love it. Hope you find one!
Let's be honest: Honda's CBR update was too lazy and now they're backed into a corner. Price drop? Triumph's offer is tempting and has a very nice creamy sound!
@@Luvro_U77 I'm talking about upgrades, not news. New front is just new, most think its actually not good looking. And e-clutch is optional and adds nothing to the value of such a bike. They should have upgraded the seat and add riding mods.
As someone who just bought a Daytona 660 you put it in sport mode and its pretty much the perfect bike power wheelies first gear anytime you want itll power wheelie second gear around 7k rpm thing is a blast it also feels super nimble yeah it tops out around 141 142 bouncing off the limiter but thats plenty fast and if you want more change the sprockets and itll do it, my last bike was an R6 and i have more fun on my daytona the acceleration is a whole different world from my R6
That extra 1.4 liters on the CBR650R is a nice thing for potentially further range before needing to refuel. Especially helpful when on a new, unfamiliar backroad in the rural country and trying to find your way back without GPS or a map. Both cool bikes though.
Huh never thought the cbr650r would have a near direct competitor. The two cylinders in the weight class arent really that close. I was ignoring the triumph because everyone seems to be complaining about it, but now it seems actually pretty good.

And all of that is why I'm buying one day one when it hits the dealer. If I wait too long people are going to figure out the Daytona is now the best bike in the category and the demand will have dealers raising their prices. @@AdeptusAmogus
@@AdeptusAmogusYep, to be honest, if they suit your needs, they’re both great bikes. Almost comes down to a strictly personal choice. I have a cbr650r but if someone wanted to “gift” me the Triumph I would certainly keep it😜.
@@grtbgf The 2cyl Ninja 650 has only 68hp. The R7, only 72hp. The GSX-8R only 82hp. The RS660 has 100hp, but $3k more for 6 more hp is kinda stupid, especially once you start factoring in the cost of parts and maintenance for an Italian bike with a comparatively tiny dealer network. Within a 500 mile radius of me, there's only 15 Aprilia dealerships. Triumph has more than double that, with 40. There's only one Aprilia dealer within 25 miles of me, and I live in the 2nd largest city in the midwest. They're also really just a luxury car dealership that doesn't even actually work on the motorcycles they sell. I'd have to ride nearly 80 miles to Chicago just to get the bike serviced. God forbid you live somewhere more than 100 miles from any major metropolitan area. All that to say, I was still dead set on an RS660 until I saw the Daytona 660 announcement. Now its a no brainer. The Daytona wins hands down.
This is what i’ve been talking about in my comment in you another video.. Maybe it will be decided on durability and reliability. By the way, theres no triangle diagrahm?
Daytona is the clear winner in terms of performance and if you want to be unique it's a good choice however it comes with an issue of dealership support
Acceleration videos are already out for the Daytona 660. It does 0-200 kmh 4.4 seconds faster then the CBR650R. Daytona 660 0-200 kmh: 12 seconds flat. CBR650R 0-200 kmh: 16.4 seconds. To put into perspective, an MT09 does 0-200 kmh in 11.8 seconds. So this new Daytona is only .2 seconds slower then an MT09… so performance wise in terms of acceleration it’s the clear winner. The CBR does do about 10-15 kmh faster top speed though, it just takes a lot longer to get there…
Bullshit. What videos did you watch? Indian detuned CBR or a bike with a 100kg fatass on it? There is no way that the CBR makes 0-200 in 16 seconds. On this video this bone stock cbr makes it in less than 12 sec: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-csretiAT88w.htmlsi=hgLA82q-zxvg-Ijd Back in the day there were other videos of cbr doing it in 10 seconds. Bon deleted his channel, he did 240 gps and 0-200 in 10 sec with a custom filter and an exhaust.
Daytona it’s good but I’ll take the Honda because reliability and e-clutch it’s better than quick shifter and I love the Japanese and 4 cylinder I love it 😍
Western people: New competitive Western models come out, we'll compare them to Japanese bikes On the other hand, when a new competitive Japanese or Asian bike comes out, They don't have a video comparing it to the Western model.
I have a 2018 CBR650f that I’ve been looking to upgrade for a while. I have a deposit on the new Daytona so I’m hoping it’s different enough to make me switch
The daytona engine is a re-run of the the street triple 660 engine, not the trident. Trident has 1 throttle body, daytona has 3 like the street triple did
TFT display seems a lux for UK market and maybe other markets, not in the USA nor Brazil, we get lcd , good one but with no smartphone connectivity. Likewise the Edrive isn't offered across the board
Pretty sure the e clutch is brand new, for the bike industry as a whole. I don't think there's a single other bike out there with this new e clutch thing. Pretty sure the cbr is the first ever bike with such. Regarding TFT displays, most if not all litre bikes and newer 650s and even some 600s and 400s have them. Idk for other types of bikes, but for sport bikes and supersport bikes, TFT displays have been around for a good couple of years afaik
@@_ph4nt0mzz_47 sometimes someone has a disability and it is hard to control the clutch... Coming from a guy who rides a mt07 as it's first and has arthritis... Maybe not so judgemental next time?
The honda looks and sounds better, has more dealership support (that won't be needed because its a honda), and has the better dash. Numerical performance figures are close enough. I'd take the baby blade every time.
I don't understand the hate against 660, sure it would be better if it didn't have the daytona name because it really isn't even close to daytona 675 but we're talking about a lighter and more powerful bike than a 4 cylinder Honda at the same price.
It's the actual number, but on the crank, and not on the wheel I used the on crank hp and torque because we didn't have wheel horsepower data for the Daytona yet, as it's a new model, and dyno results can vary if both bikes aren't tested on the same setup. Edit : I'll be sure to mention that in my next video
It would be a strange comparison because they are very different bikes. The CBR is more of a sports tourer while the ZX6R is a dedicated sportsbike/supersport. Not to mention the ZX6R also quite a bit more expensive. Therefore the Ninja 650 would make more sense to compare but they stated they were comparing bikes with more than 2 cylinders, which the Ninja doesn't have. So yeah, if you're only looking at performance of course the ZX6R would come out on top. A more reasonable comparison would be with the CBR600RR and ZX6R as they are both supersports
the ZX6R is a super sport, these are not these are sport tourer, The GSXR-600/750, CBR600RR and R6 are the comp for the ZX6R. The daytona 660 and cbr650r were not made to compete with a zx6r. they were made to compete against the R7, Ninja 650 class
They Daytona seems like the better bike on paper. But in 08 I bought a 600RR and my buddy had a Daytona 675. It's exhaust note was the sexiest I'd ever heard , but when it came to STREET, it was gutless compared to RR and the R6 from that time. Even with more torque it just didn't have the top end speed. We rode together for years and all had heavily modified bikes over time and it could never catch up. Too bad that RR got stolen. It was my favorite bike since I started riding in 99.
