@@Hoop_23 Too electronic and sedate? Mazda seems to be smoothing over their performance vibes as they’re pushing upscale. That still puts them in a unique place, but it’s a pity the zoom zoom isn’t as fiery.
I love manuals and I plan on getting this as my first car. However, I gotta be honest here, the rear section of the cabin doesn’t surely get the same treatment as the front. Forget about the red accentuated upholstery and the absence of rear AC vents or USB slots for charging, the center console (which doesn’t have anything mentioned above) seems really plastic-y, simple and cheap. What are your thoughts on that? PS - I do have a Honda back home and I love it. I could definitely ignore the rear section and get on with it. But I guess they should improve it.
I've had a lot of rear passengers in my 24 si. Nobody has complained, yes its sad they dont have the option, but its not as big a deal as you probably think. if you really want to give them usb ports, you can get an extender from the front port. Other than that, it gets plenty cool / warm back there and ive been told the seats are very comfortable and roomy. No complaints yet.@rohitchanda8461
@@rohitchanda8461yeah I noticed that after the fact. The seats were a dead giveaway when I bought it because they stood out but the door panels with the flat black instead of the gloss black was a let down. I plan down the road to take the door panels off and maybe try to paint those pieces glossy black just to give it some kind of continuity.
I feel like the car is appropriate for the money. It’s a great alternative to a Type R if you’re on a budget and want a more sportier driving experience than the regular civics. I think the power is adequate for what it is. I think Honda assume people buying this is going to be commuting but wanted a more fun commuting experience.
appropriate for the money?? LMAO fck no its not. They took all this away from it while the 10th gen has all of this - 5 More HP - Shift lights - Fog Lights -Heated Seats -Dual zone climate - Adaptive Dampers - A real sport mode button that actually does something (with full red accent lighting) - A full digital center cluster - A temperature gauge (LMFAO) - More aggressive and better looking" All while costing thousands of dollars less LMAO. The 11th Gen is a joke and you're a sucker if you bought one considering you paid over $13,000 more for a car with way less features than the 10th.
I had a ‘22. It was very nice and quite enjoyable. It was way underpowered, but its suspension was sharp. The shifter was butter, and the fuel economy was beyond impressive; I consistently got 37/38 mpg’s. I got a crazy offer from a dealer a year ago and decided to part ways with the Si. I’m now in a ‘13 wrx that I bought off my college buddy, who was the original owner and kept it all stock. I definitely miss the Si at times, and if my wrx dies someday , maybe I’ll buy an Si again.
I feel that my 2024 shifter is less than buttery. Some days it feels like it goes right in some days it feels like it struggles. Not so much as grinding but very clunky. I'm wondering if the first 80 miles were driven hard and made it that way. I don't know I've only driven this car so far but I need to drive another one to see if it feels the same.
Copped my SonicGreyPearl FE1 11th gen Si last yeat June, and it's been the best all-round enthusiast car I've ever owned and first brand new car and I'm glad i got this over say the Elantra N. Extra points: got the canadian spec with full digital cluster, fog lights, front rear heates seats, heated steering wheel, wireless charging. Below $40K, it's the most practical enthusiast car that has an LSD that makes carving those Ontario backroads pleasantly.
The other day my daughter and I test drove a bunch of cars including the accord then the civic back to back. We both loved the civic over the accord. I drive a 2023 lexus and I walked out impressed how well the civic was put together for its class.
I traded in my ‘22 Civic SI for a ‘24 GLI 40th, only because I drove the piss out of the civic in my 1.5 years of ownership (40k+ miles) and took a remote job so wanted something fresh in the garage. While the Jetta has a descent bump in power, the civic trumps it just about everywhere else. Interior is of better quality, handles better, rev match is brilliant with a perfect shift every time, hill start assist is ‘intelligent’ and releases brakes when clutch is engaged (Jetta is about a 2 second hold no matter the scenario - which coincidentally makes taking off on a steep hill about 10x more difficult) brake hold button (keeps the brakes held whenever you come to a stop - think drive thru or sitting in stop and go traffic. Once you come to a stop and put in neutral it will automatically hold until you take off again, without having to pull / release park brake over and over again), BOSE audio system is phenomenal & underrated in my opinion - by far the best quality sound system I’ve heard in a vehicle.. plus it looks awesome and averaged 33 MPG on WV country roads. Some complaints - rev hang is frustrating, especially when rowing through the gears My ‘22 had the sticky steering at highway speeds but apparently that’s been addressed Paint is soft as baby shit. Definitely suggest getting a paint protection film on front bumper / hood for rock chips 200HP engine leaves you wanting more
Thank you, man, just for voicing what many people think in the first 2 mins. Have the same exact color with blacked out emblems , and yes at MSRP and love it. Frankly, at city and highway speeds I couldn't even justify this powertrain as I have to restrain myself and not sure if extra power is more track suited than practical.
Nailed the review. This gen Si harkens back to the 90’s understated Si where only those who know, know.and unlike some of the competition the wearable parts are still reasonable. Whole point of the Si is it’s a civic with the fun turned up.
And you had to review it in the color that everybody has. LOL . I'm loving my SI and I've only had it for 4 months now. I just now started getting on it and I must say that it is quicker than my 09 GTI and with less displacement I'm impressed. And it's very comfortable
I’m torn between the Elantra N and this. I had a veloster N and it was so quick and the interior was great. I know the resale on the SI will hold better, but the N for stock for stock seems to be way more fun factor
2017 si here. Gets much higher mpg than advertised. Easily hits over 50 mpg on highway. But that comes with injectors that will fail around 50k. Do it yourself for about $200. Also, if you ever get crazy dash errors like vsa, break assist, stability control, etc, could just be a bad maf/iat sensor.
when I first saw the civic si 2022 - I knew It was the perfect car for me. Hoping they keep the same body shape, and transmission for future years so i can maybe afford it by then!!!
Id like to mention the feature set you get spending a little more on a mk8, heated seats, heated steering wheel, rear vents and a hatch. I cross shoped a si with the mk8 gti and ended up with the gti.
Interesting comparing it to the GTI, as its power feels much closer to VW's base 158HP 1.5 turbo M/T I drove. You can only feel a little extra power in the SI 3rd gear and above.
Other key difference is noise level. The Golf is much much much quieter inside. The other big difference, the Golf infotainment sucks. And crashes. Still. 2 years in. 2022 owner here. There are far fewer GTI out there so it's more rare if that matters. No perfect car in this price range.
I picked up the brand new s.I in two thousand twenty two. Now has thirty thousand miles on it. Is the king of the road?No , not by far , but every time I get in that car so much fun to drive.
I get that they are trying to appeal to larger markets but a Si that size just seems kinda off message. I have an 8th and a 9th gen sitting in my garage. The thing I enjoy most is that they have a quality driving experience while still being relatively light and compact and inexpensive to modify/maintain. I test drove a 2023 Si last year at a local dealership when I was shopping for a new daily. Neat car but it didnt feel like a Civic at all. More like a Volvo. I cant decide if thats a compliment or not.
"The red exterior plastic screams that I play Fortnite" That might be the most hilarious description of a car's feature I've ever heard on a review. Had me rolling laughing. Well done man lol Side note, curious where you'd rank the Si compared to the WRX? You seemed to really like the WRX in your review. Which do you think is more fun to drive, or which one would you pick to own?
I still have my 9th gen civic(2015).. 120K miles after 9 years and no major repair on the engine or trans.. clutch is still factory and same as the day I got it…Will never sell it even if I upgrade next year lol
We had an '18 SI that was a wonderful car and I was getting 35-37mpg mixed driving. However, it had MAJOR oil dilution issues (well over the oil full line after only 1-2k driving) even though we live in Arizona, I never drove it hard and I drove a lot on the highway to get the oil temp up. When I called Honda, they said unless the car was stalling or having warning lights, they weren't going to help out. It was very disappointing to hear since I really loved the car otherwise. Hopefully this is not a big issue with the 11th gen SI.
Ouch, that's quite unfortunate and it's especially frustrating to hear a response like that from Honda. I've heard some people acknowledge that their engine has a little dilution by the time they get their oil change done but I haven't heard of it being a serious amount like it was before so II wouldn't worry about it if I was personally buying a new one!
Remember this: Honda's 2.0 turbo was designed from the ground-up for performance (strengthened internals, etc.). The 1.5 Turbo was designed from the ground up for economy (low-friction components, including connecting rods, pistons etc.) . When you push more horsepower out of the 1.5 Turbo, it comes at a cost - longevity vs the 2.0 turbo.
I so wish Honda would come out with a hatchback version. I don’t like the size and sedan shape too much for sporty cars but I think I’d get one if a hatchback version was not a possibility.
Not sure if they're still marking up the Si still but i think the Elantra N is the sport sedan king without a doubt. 90% performance of a Type R at 10k less. I would argue more fun than the Type R. The Si is just a Civic sport+ to be honest with some parts borrowed from the Type R. The Si is a far cry from what it used be. Having owned one, it's just not a special or value forward car like it once was.
The one detail of the Civic Si that has always annoyed me was the fact the front and rear seats materials don't match. In Canada the price of the Si is $40k for that much I'd opt for the Mazda 3 AWD Turbo sedan with caveat it's not as entertaining due to the lack of a manual gearbox.
@@gwpeoples True, my point was that in Canada the price is $40k and if priced similarly you could get AWD, a turbo motor and I'd say a more upscale vehicle.
@@genzigzag definitely a misconception by ppl who haven't owned a modern bmw. A bunch of ppl in our group bought new and used 2014 and older 3/4 series and its just been routine maintenance.
I really like the looks of the si. Depending on pricing, I'd probably go touring with a manual and then tune it for more power. But then the limited slip would be nice so who knows. Thing that kills me is how low you sit in the civic. Wish you sat a bit higher. Regardless I'm definitely a fan of the new civic.
It is a great little car that is a good everyday driving and some fun on the weekend backroads or highways. Sort of like the Miata. Would be interesting to hear you do a comparison with the regular Civic sport/touring. How much is the true difference.
For a few grand more I'd rather buy the Elantra N. Sorry Honda fans but its just a better value. The Si doesn't even get heated seats or adaptive suspension, which the N does get.
In my region (central tx) my honda dealer had this marked up to $41k. The acura dealer was selling a base integra for $37k. I'll have to recheck since this was just under 2 years ago
Great video!! I really like how you put in perspective that it’s a fun car to drive with more than enough power to push around but it’s still bound by its price point and we can’t expect the world from it lol. Quick question… Does it have the redline bars above the tachometer?
Thanks! And no, that is exclusive to the Canadian specs unfortunately (the canadian spec also comes with the full digital cluster, foglights, heated front and rear seats, and heated steering wheel too🥴)
As long as you use premium fuel , you could dodge the premature blown head gasket issue. It’s a $4000 repair bill or you could buy the Honda Care extended warranty.
Thanks for the great video. I just put a deposit down on a SI. I never had leather seats before my beloved 2013 Veloster which was totaled last week (thank God no one hurt badly and not my fault). I never thought I’d care about leather, but I surely did love it. Do you find the material nice enough or do you think an after market upgrade to leather worth it? I’d appreciate your feedback. Thanks.
I Test drove an Si at mcgrath city, and yes they gave us the msrp number. but there was an extra 3500 dollar non negotiable Speciatly vehicle fee that was only on the Si and the Type R which was 7k over.
Honda really needs to give this car more power if it’s going to sell it for $30k+. It’s close in price to the WRX…more so than in years past. It’s also pretty close to the Elantra N. The value proposition isn’t there anymore.
I hear that but it is like 4 grand away from the Elantra N. The Elantra is much more entertaining to push hard but I still think this is a better daily and it’s much more fun than the WRX. It’s not always about power! Each of those are better in its own ways but it doesn’t need more power to have its own stronghold in the market imho
@@Realistick I’m not suggesting that Honda needs to give it a ton more power. But even the kind of power bump that the BRZ got absolutely transformed that car. I’m mostly talking about the power levels that can be achieved with an OTS stage 1 Hondata or Ktuner map. Except from the factory so warranty doesn’t get burned. I also disagree that this Si is more fun than the current WRX. Last generation was no question, the VA’s awful factory tune made the 10th gen Si objectively more fun to drive. But now that Subaru figured out how to properly tune a car without ridiculous rev hang, I would argue that the VB is the better car.
@@enmass90 A BR-Z powerbump could be nice, though the BR-Z also needed to fix its torque dip, something the SI doesn’t really struggle with. If all you care about is speed, sure, the wrx is more fun but the SI’s gearbox and steering are in a different league and I would much prefer to drive the SI on a nice road than the subie! Rev hang fix was nice but the drivetrain shock needs to be addressed too.
Great value if you can find one for MSRP. Thus far I've been unable to, which may steer me to a WRX. Moreover, a lot of that Honda magic was lost when the 8th-gen Si went away. Yeah I realize it's not 2011 anymore, but still.
As a 24' Si owner, I can confirm that the car has rattles from the factory. It's a fun and peppy car, but the engine isn't as robust as its naturally aspirated and cannot hold much more power than stock. They seem to blow up pretty easily with a mild tune and some bolt ons
Absolutely true 👍 I have one and I'm not planning on adding any hp without an engine swap. The piston rods were made with "eco" standards in mind. It would be funny to see an LS3 in one of these 🤣
It definitely needs some updates, a little more horsepower 230 would be enough to make it where it should be, and keep the type R owners happy, how much would it cost to put driving lights in they get them in Canada, heated seats would be a nice touch by the way, that’s how it is in Canada and keep the price about where it’s at but for the kind of money they’re asking you can get a lot more car is it a better car maybe not but how many people keep a car 10 years if you’re only keeping a car 3 to 5 years any car out there we go that long. I looked at SI and Just was not impressed with the performance. the shifter was suspension felt good and handling. Although now on the forums, I hear they have some kind of issue with their steering box not sure why everybody’s trying to make less power and the other companies that aren’t afraid of more power I think we’re gonna win. Test drove a Kia k5 GT which out the door was 2k more and although not a fan of Kia cars it was very impressive interior, features, and 290hp. Would Honda be better long term yea I would think but if your getting a new car every 3-5 years it doesn’t matter :)
Great review man, I'm looking at getting one of tbese in the next few weeks and im excited. Just a quick rant though - i hate and find it so annoying whrn review videos say that "200 hp isnt fast." Since when? Its so annoying because reviewers test all kinds of cars and yes obviously the civic si wont be as fast as a bmw m5 or a porsche 911, but why do people pretend 200 hp is something to scoff at and is considered slow? Put someone in a nissan versa with 130 hp and they wont be able to tell how "slow" it is. Idk, idk if that makes sense, just annoying. Its even worse in moyorcycle review videos
It’s definitely a car to be excited about so here’s my preemptive congrats 🎉. It can get annoying when people get fixated on 200 hp when the car is just 30k, but before slamming some reviews, remember that it is a sport sedan. People are going to be critical over the performance. If the article/video finishes and they say it’s too slow to compete, THEN id say it’s bs. After all, the SI isn’t about numbers, it’s about abundant yet sensible fun!
@@Realistick i understand, being marketed as a "sports" sedan/car definitely has its implications. I currently have an 04 is300 and have had it for over 10 years. It has ~217 hp (probably less since cars lose power as they get older) and it feels fast enough for me, faster than pretty much any other normal car on the road, so for me ~17 less horsepower is not going to make me think im riding a snail, if that makes sense. I just think that people are too obsessed with numbers on paper, as you stated in the review
Yeah, they are just quick enough for spirited commuting. Its just frustrating that competitors keep increasing power, where Honda seems to just increasing weight/size and stagnating around 200HP.
From all research I've found the drive isn't anywhere near as good as the Si, it's slower and far less reliable. Are they wrong? Was thinking about GTI. Also heard manual gear box was crap, would DSG be the way to go?
@Hoop_23 well id say so. Aint no way the gli is slower. Plus i have test driven it and its so good. The dsg is smooth and the ride is either chill and comfy or nice and firm depending on what setting ur on. I really like it.
@@kikomanster8188 question is, can you find one at MSRP the way they're selling? It's also like a 5k jump assuming the integras aren't marked up as well
Yes, the Si’s are selling here in Seattle around $3-5k markups while the Integra is selling at msrp. I know because I was looking at Si before I just bought the Integra instead. The interior of the Integra compared to the Si is worth it plus the els 3d studio alone trumps the Bose in Si.
This is a very good car, I will not deny that. But it's only good stock. If you wanna modify then I suggest looking up a breakdown of the L series to the K series. The internals are very dinky and small/skinny for the sake of fuel economy.
And a really "really" close source is telling me even with an employee discount they will only go down 4k on them, so the discount is worthless if they will only go down to 41k.
I'm moving to Michigan soon and I don't know if the Si is a good option for the winter or if I should consider something else. In your top 2023 cars you said that the Si falls flat in winter
I think Zack might have said that? (I cant remember saying that) but If you’re living in Michigan, it would make sense to get snow tires, in which case, the SI would still be a good option. The WRX would have an advantage if you’re in a more hilly or rural region, but it’s less fun day-to-day and costs more to run.
Agree with the snow tire recommendation. I live in Michigan and have been through 2 winters with my "22 Si. The all-season tires will not get you through heavy snow, otherwise you'll be OK. @@Realistick
@@janoskovacs11 true! though for like $400ish , most dealers know a company that can have them installed for you. If you look really closely at the seat of this car, youll actually a see a little switch because the owner had heated front seats installed!
@@Realistick You are 100% correct, it was Zack who said that. I tried to for the WTX but there is not base trim only Limited, which does not fit my budget! There is a Si MSRP near, so I might snatch that or the Golf GTI. Thank you for replying!
They should have kept the Accord V6 ! i have a 2017 V6 and can’t drive a stick. I have mine and was ready for a new one before they discontinued the v6. My. car is still terrific. I will check Acura even if I need to pay more $$. Shame.
Just sold my 2019 SI that I bought new. It had a sublime shifter. I drove a new Civic Sport Touring manual. I was disappointed. The shifter was real tall and shifted so bulky, so un Honda like. I’ve had many Honda’s/ Acura's and it was always a great shifter. Was the shifter on this new SI ok? They didn’t have any SI's at any dealers near me. I may be rethinking buying a Honda. ✌️
