Still the same as my 2020 touring but honestly it was a fantastic purchase. Eats up highway miles and way more nimble than my Tahoe, but still has tremendous space behind the 2nd row. That v6 is legendary.
@@luperamos7307 Looks. Pilot is ugly. And the new pilot is way more crampt. I sat in one (Im a husky broadshoulder 5'9'" man) because I wanted the updgrade iVTM4 with the better torque and heat capacity... and I hated it. It was so crampt in the driver seat. Then I got in a 23 Passport, and I was like... WOW. Big difference in comfort and space. Way more comofortable. Less sexy interior for sure, but my legs had ROOM. My thighs and lovehandles could breath. Seat was so comfy. Pilot interior feels like a 2015 Civic in size. Might have the 3rd row, but it just doesnt have the comfortable size of the Passport. Passport is like that happy medium between a 2024 Pilot and a 2020 Tahoe.
@@Omaba_BabaThe Pilot is longer than the Passport. Interior is same, but Pilot is longer. You are thinking of HRV or CRV. Pilot is just a third row Passport. Lots of room.
This feels like a car from 2019. No silly hybrids, CVTS, tiny tiny i4 turbos, no 20” touchscreen, this looks like a really good car without the dumb new stuff, especially with that vtec v6
Thats exactly what people said about their 90s cars when these Hondas were coming out in the 2000s. Your statement boldly presumes that this honda is not too old, not too new. Bullsh1t lol.
I have had my 2019 PP EX-L for 4 years/49k miles. Love it. Your review is spot on. Although I do prefer the simple infotainment screen and actual HVAC controls vs a giant tablet. The engine is a gem, transmission - eh ok. I find the best results by keeping mine in "S" all the time except the freeways. Keeps it from hunting for gears too much and upshifting to too high of a gear on side roads. The icing on the cake is I got mine for $31.5k+TTL in 10/2019 as an end of year model sale.
gorgeous red ! love the passport it as been a perfect 2 years for me since I didnt need the 3rd row of the Pilot, I wish it had the new center console tho
Currently driving a 24 forester touring....very comfortable car which an 80 Year old like Me can appreciate........But I may well trade for one of these.........Am very happy to finally see the end of gear levers which for Me only get in the way of coffee holders......And like the idea of being able to turn off those extremely annoying emergency bracking.........I have trouble getting My Forrester into My garage Because of the emergency breaking SLAMMING on the breaks because the ignorant computer thinks I'm going to have a wreak.......Also..You menchion a soft ride which I INSIST upon..........Bone jarring low pro tires are a no-go for Me..............Paul
Had nothing to watch while eating and hey, got a notification from you reviewing a uniquely named Car! Caught my eye when it was named The Honda Passport. Thanks for the comforting watch! God bless! ❤
It's interesting how they kept the old gauge cluster considering the Ridgeline (the truck version of this) has the updated and more user friendly one. At least they updated the infotainment I guess.
I am thinking they are going to just keep this until the do the full redesign to mirror the Pilots, but who knows. I think the gauge cluster is one of the weakest parts of the Passport. Just hideous.
I love my 2020 Passport Elite. The cabin is spacious and the controls on the dash and steering wheel are easy to access and use. I don't need/want a massive display. In mixed highway/street driving around San Diego, I get around 19-20 mpg. On the highway on cruise control near the speed limit (65-70), I've got 26 mpg. If I put it in Eco mode on cruise control on the highway, I may eek out 27 or 28 mpg. I agree with the assessment of adaptive cruise control. It can be sluggish to accelerate, and it does like tapping on the brakes a lot. I've also noticed that, on downhill grades, the cruise control doesn't do very well at holding the car at the set speed. I've seen it run up over 8 to 10 mph over the set speed before I had to tap on the brakes (knocking it off cruise control) to slow the car down. My old BMW 5-Series would keep the car within 2 mph of the set speed on downhill grades. I have taken my Elite AWD off-road in the deserts near San Diego, but was very timid with it, mainly because of the 20-inch wheels. I would be more inclined to do so with a Trail Sport model. It would be nice if Honda put some recovery points / tow points on the Trail Sport if they're hyping it as off-road capable.
While I agree that the adaptive cruise is pretty timid, the lane centering is much better than many competitors. Admittedly, I'm not as well versed in the competition as a car reviewer, but the experience I do have places the Honda lane centering well above others. However, the adaptive cruise... that thing is a chicken, BUT works well. Calling something "meh" and "fine" in the same sentence as well is a bit confusing. You've done so many reviews, keep in mind, that fine is probably good to most of us muggles :) Perspective and all.
Curious, is the adaptive cruise control coupled with regular cruise control? Is there a way to just use a regular cruise control without the adaptive part in this vehicle?
@@ChristianC-gy1ym you’re really worried about a bigger and bigger IPad as your center console and non-physical climate controls that are integrated into the iPad? Good for you LOL 😂😂
I have the 23 Passport Trailsport. I agree with you about the push button shift, not my favorite. I think the front visibility is a bit limited with fat A pillars and high hood. My 20 ridgeline has a more sloped hood but I think the newer one has the straighter higher hood. Have to be extra careful in tight situations like parking lots. I don’t care about sound systems in cars, maybe because I’m hearing impaired anyway. The all wheel drive is really impressive off road. I’ve had a Nissan xterra and a 4 runner so I’ve done some off road driving. The Trailsport drive system is great. Obviously less ground clearance, lack of protection, no recovery points but it can get through some pretty rough roads. Nice review.
Hi, Jerry- this is the first comment I've read that mentions that high hood- a feature that my wife and I both dislike. Can I ask how long you've owned the Passport and if this concern dwindles with time? We have a 2024 Black Edition on order and the only concern we have is this, which also creates a very large trough between the front windshield and the high hood- it looks like an area that could be problematic for debris/ice/snow, despite the heated wiper feature. .
@@mikespies786 I don't have the ice and snow problem, I live in AZ and I haven't had any debris issues. I've gotten used to it but it is the biggest vehicle I've driven regularly in a long time. I've had a CR-V previously along with Honda Accords, Civics, and a Tesla Model 3. The high hood is not a deal breaker, it is actually a really nice vehicle. I thought I was going to be doing a lot more traveling in it including some forest roads but my life changed and it is basically a grocery getter for me. But it is a good vehicle, lots of nice features, very comfortable. And it is not as big a front end as most large SUVs and pickups, just bigger than what I've been used to. I think you'll be happy with it overall. Oh, I just went over one year of ownership and I'm comfortable with it, just something to be aware of.
Don’t like the old school parking brake. 99.9% of people won’t use the parking brake with an automatic transmission, yet with the electronic brake you would have brake hold. And that’s something you use at every stoplight.
Looks like my 2022 Pilot Trailsport. In MY24 has no visual updates yet? I'm over here kicking myself as I bought the Pilot in December(during the chip shortage still) and a month later 2023 Pilots were popping up with new styling 😢
There is a key to open the door lock (in the FOB). Need the FOB to start. No shift lever, just the push buttons. For me the buttons have more functions than an old style shifter. What I like about the buttons - can't select reverse while moving forward. Don't need to put car in park - just push the engine stop and it goes to park! If you open the driver door while in drive, it goes to park.
I love our new 2023 EX-L but the Adaptive Cruise Control sucks. It’s so overly cautious about vehicle spacing and speed it feels dangerous when it drastically drops mph after senses “approaching” vehicles ahead
I noticed mine was like that and over time it got more acceptable (still not as good as a more modern car). Not sure if it learns or something? But it’s definitely less jerky than it was
He said this audio system isn't as good as the Bose system in the Pilot but he hasn't done a video on the Honda Pilot where he even talks about or plays any music on the Bose system. I guess we are just suppose to take him at his word?
I have had both stock audio and upgrades systems. There is a difference, is it worth the extra $$? All will hurt your ears at high volumes. For me spend the extra on you home entertainment system and get the stock audio.😊
I was thinking the same. My initial thought is, if you need to tow, get this. The RDX has a tow limit of 1500lb. if not, or you wont exceed 1500lb, then RDX might be a decent cross shop!
2024 Passport Trailsport, or 2024 Outback Wilderness, which one would you recommend for road-trips across North American snow belt? Which one is more comfortable on the long haul?
This is a repackaged Honda Pilot just smaller.. same old instrument cluster, old radio, even the decade old v6 motor from the previous gen Pilot but now mated to an old acura MDX SH-AWD system. This car is 8 years old, and it's just released.
@@Mario_kart1320 You buy what you like plain & simple. Coming from someone who claims to own a Type R, you sure have a lot of interest on what people enjoy to buy.
That interior is looking extremely dated. Replacing that 2013 dashboard with something more modern like an LED panel would have made this vehicle somewhat competitive
