I thought you were reviewing my exact bike until you said it was a DCT. I purchased a green 1100T non DCT from that exact dealer about a month ago. I've put 2500 miles on it already. I absolutely love love love this bike!!! One big thing I was looking for was a bike that wouldn't roast my thighs and undercarriage with engine heat in the middle of summer when at a stop light. Absolutely no issues there. Speaking of undercarriage...the stock seat is atrocious! After 45 minutes my nether-regions were completely numb! No joke. I got the brown diamond stitched seat off Amazon and no longer have any issues. The bike has so much power for its weight class, but is governed at 99mph. I think it may actually be by design because the bike becomes unstable around 95 and up. Front end starts to shake pretty violently. I've seen reputable sources say they were able to eliminate the issue by swapping to different tires and/or adjusting front suspension. Under the seat there are 2 hooks for you to hang your helmets from. I greatly appreciate that detail because I absolutely hate carrying my helmet around. Engine braking is quite harsh, even on the lowest setting. Just takes time to get used to and you end up greatly appreciating it when coming to a stop. At 5'9" I do lean slightly forward, enough to stress my Lower back at about an hour of riding. There are many riser options out there that would undoubtedly alleviate that issue which I will be doing at some point. I have a larger wind screen than the one shown here (larger than even the second option shown in the video) it is a must!!! Far more of a relaxing ride with that upgrade. I purchased it for 135 dollars off the shelf at the dealership when purchasing the bike, so unfortunately I'm not sure where else to get it from. It's a fantastic bike for anyone considering and I don't think you'll be disappointed. Just note, from factory it is not a cross country or long distance kind of cruiser, but it can be if you have the time and means to upgrade a few things. Great video sir and thank you!
I think its the tires... lottery on stock tires for stability. Most people who had issues went away when they got better tires. My original tires had no issues. I could peg it at 100 for several minutes and it was rock solid. I didn't go with those tires ever again though, I use Metzler Cruisetec tires and they ride nicer than the stock.
@@matthewread79 Its computer controlled based on speed... so there are things you can do to trick the speedometer to stop reading correctly over say 95, and even if getting faster, the bike is still reporting a speed under 100, so it doesn't cut your throttle. I'd not recommend it, but LifeOfBurch did it and showed how. Its a lot of janky work for getting it up to maybe 110.
@matthewread79 you're in luck. Just last week, you couldn't. But someone just posted a video a few days ago of them flashing the ECU. you can send the ECU out to him, he'll flash it and send it back within 2 days. I'll post info to the video once I find it again.
Bought a normal 2024 Rebel 1100 DCT a few weeks ago. My first ever bike i bought on my own. 600 miles on it already. The thing practically drives itself. I love it, cant say enough good things about it. The seat is the only downside IMO. I do cycling and sit at a desk for long hours so i can take sitting for long periods. After about 40 minutes i start feeling some discomfort, but i can easily push thru a 3 hour ride just by stopping once to stretch/gas. I will be getting a new seat to make it a little more comfy on longer rides. But besides that, this bike is so damn fun. I've never rode any type of cruiser bike, but this thing feels very sport to me. I'm 5'11" so I lean slightly forward on the bike. But I like that feeling of being on a smaller bike. Makes me like i have full control over the bike on winding roads. Not to mention, no clutch riding in city traffic is something i didn't realize would so nice. Love my bike!
lowest cost option for a more comfortable seat is an Airhawk inflatable cushion. I have on e on my rebel 1100 DCT and it greatly improves seat comfort for longer rides.
Lol not just chain drive, the seat is garbage, handlebars are too far out while the seat pushes you baxk. Very hard to put risers on coz most companies dont make risers for this motorcycle. No real good seat option either, there is a mustang seat and one other brand, thts abt it
Let me know if you think you need handlebar risers to move them back a little closer to you. The bike is made for someone your height. You should love it!
I bought my new 2023 Honda Rebel 1100 DCT last Saturday and love it!! Shad makes a better hardcase saddle bags/looks better! My bike fits me well. I ordered a Corbin seat because I get pain riding over 1hr.
When you put the stuff in the left saddle bag 💼 you should put the cap 🧢 on top so you don’t crush it. You want to look fresh in your cap. Thank me later
Awesome Cruise! Your perspectives are greatly appreciated. Thank you. This is a competent family of Honda reliable motorcycles for all riding levels and budgets. Good looking too! Well done!
Nice review, thanks for your time and your expertise. I always like hearing what’s out there. I have a couple of friends that have kept their Rebels forever!
Thanks for doing this review Subbed with you back when I owned a Goldwing... but after 54,000 miles on a pair of Super Teneres, Find myself thinking of a new ride.
Pretty cool of Honda to send you the 1100 rebelT to review. I like the looks of the bike and it seems to be a solid value. Thanks for the honest evaluation
Don’t like chains, don’t like dark bikes. I want to be seen when I’m in traffic. Haven had a chain bike since ‘79. Had a yellow BMW K75RT, silver St1300, Red St1300 and now a ‘15 Goldwing Anniversary edition. All of them were shaft drive, bright colors. I have owned a black Virago but it was when my kids were little and I used it for getting back and forth to work.
Thanks for the review. I have walked by several of these in various Honda motorcycle showrooms, and it never really grabbed me as an eye-catching bike. Sounds like you had fun giving this a nice test run. Best regards.
Thank you for a nice review. Very balanced review. This bike carries a good price for a whole bike. Gas tank is small, the seat, I bet options will be available in the coming future. You never go wrong with Honda. For city riding and/or short work commute, this will do for many riders. Hate the green, love the black. The DCT is magical on my Wing. Going to test one as I am 6'4"/203lbs. This could park next to my wing. Price is very fair.
A really good review. To supplement with my experiences I wanted a cycle to fill a 90% runabout, 10% trips role where the lockable bags would be very helpful. The 1100T's price point and weight compared to more common options was attractive. It's effectively a 'baby bagger' so at 5'7" I feel like I'm in the target demographic and find the ergos comfortable. The T has worked well both for 2-up daytrips and solo weekend runs. She says the passenger accommodations are comfortable. Note we're generally riding 50ish mile segments at a time. Yes the saddlebag brackets aren't pretty. It makes me think the T version of the 1100 wasn't originally planned. But the brackets aren't something I spend any time looking at, either.
Thank you Cruiseman for reviewing the Rebel 1100. I wonder if you would ever consider having a commuter type motorcycle to go with your Goldwing? I have a commuter type now (NC750x DCT) and I think it’s a lot of fun around town and short trips.
I am a short rider, age 71, and learned the hard way that for long trips, highway pegs or forward controls are a great help for comfort. There are no highway pegs for the Rebel 1100 so I installed T-Rex forward controls on my 2021 model 1100 DCT. The seat is also not comfortable so I installed an Airhawk inflatable cushion which is also a great improvement for comfort on long trips. I recently demoed a Goldwing DCT, and will most likely purchase a 2025 model. I am too short to flat foot the Goldwing, but lowering the seat by just 1" would allow me to do so. If you have any suggestions for a thinner lower seat for the Goldwing, it would be much appreciated.
I test road one from my local Honda dealership I liked everything about it that you liked . Accept it was a bit cramped and I’m 5 `9” with a 30 inch inseam . I would definitely like it as a second motorcycle. I currently own a 2018 HGW DCT
love my Rebel 1100 overall... have a 2021, and its still going great. Only thing I really dislike is that it uses a chain... making it a pain for distance riding. If you are on an interstate doing 70+ you will barely break 100 miles on a tank of gas. If you want to break 150 you have to be on the slower back roads. Mine is better than the 1100T model. I have the normal one and changed the muffler, put two larger symmetrical saddlebags, and a better fairing... and a better seat. Being I am only 5 feet tall, its very comfortable. If it didn't have a chain, and had a larger gas tank, it would be perfect.
i really want the regular 1100 but i want it to be green!!! i was genuinely considering stepping down to the 500 just to get the green option but now i know this exists i may just step up and take all the extras off (saddle bags & fairing)
nice review and very honest with the good and the bad , I also love the green and that muffler sound. Very interesting to see this new DCT motorcycle , that make me feel to come back to 2 wheels. Alain & Yellow
Every time I sit on one, the ergos don't feel right and I'm 5'11". Pegs need to be more forward. Best to get the non-tour model, then ditch the factory muffler and replace with a smaller one. Then get some luggage. See Life of Burch videos for info on that. Nice video.
Great review of this bike. I’ve looked at possible bikes to eventually downgrade from my big heavy touring bikes when that time comes. It will be a DCT and probably the NC 750. It’s a shame we can’t get the NC 1100 here in the states. Honda does have the new adventure sport Africa Tween but I will have to investigate that option. Not sure an adv bike is right because I’d never leave the pavement. Like you I don’t fit the rebel and I don’t really like the looks of it. Other than that I think it’s a great cruiser.
It would be nice if it were a shaft drive. But I do like all the standard features that would be an extra add on with other bikes. Such as cruise control and possibly the ride modes.
@@gregorytubbs3444 Its cheap and easy for them... its perfect for racing bikes. For a cruiser though.. especially something they want to call a touring machine? I have done some really long trips on my Rebel 1100. I have to bring extra supplies to be able to clean and lube the chain every 400 miles, and it sucks. Besides the stupid chain, and small gas tank, I love the bike.
ok, so I know you are a fan of the DCT. My question is this...some other guys on the internet that do riding training claim that to maneuver a larger bike like your Goldwing you ride that you need to slip the clutch like he does on a Harley Davidson. Do you ever have any trouble maneuvering a bigger bike not using a clutch?
I’ve owned four Goldwings, two 1800 VTX, two Honda Valkyries, one Honda Blackbird, one 2003 Honda 800VFR, and a CBR1000RR, so I can fairly say Honda has frigging lost out to the EPA these days with most of its bikes in my opinion except for the Goldwings. Yes they make a dependable product. Yes I love the Transalp, the Africa Twin, and the CB500X etc…I’m just use to bigger faster more powerful bikes. Looking at this little bike I could never see myself owning one. Maybe I will buy a great used low mileage Goldwing years 2006-2017 someday. I can’t see spending $30,000 on a new Goldwing when I can easily pickup a used one well under $8,000. So it’s a no go on this overpriced tiny twin. For long distance touring a Goldwing is it for me. I’ve ridden over 500,000 miles on them. I’m use to its perfection as a long distance mile eater. 1,000 mile days are easy on the Wings.
Chris ,great motorcycle and engine DCT,one of the massive drawbacks of African twin DCT ,no shaft drive ,Honda would be great, market against BMW GS etc ,I would possibly think about one myself Chris Hurst TX 🇬🇧
I have the 2023 1100 Manual, and I expected Honda would have done something with that extremely uncomfortable seat, the ugly as exhaust muffler and the foot peg placement, obviously no one at Honda has been reading the last 3 years of owner complaints. I do like the saddlebag look but getting them as an aftermarket item is hard if not impossible.
When you return the Rebel 1100T to Honda please see if you can get an explanation as to WHY DOESN'T HONDA BRING THE NT1100 DCT TO AMERICA? Honda has a void for sport/touring with a motorcycle fitting the lineup below the Goldwing. The Rebel 1100T while a competent bike does not fill that void. It's not as suitable for seating position and wind protection as you mentioned etc. The Africa Twin can be used for touring but it compromises in favor of some off road ability that many do not require. The NT1100 DCT fits (literally) just superbly for it's mission (I know as I have one now living overseas). Perhaps Honda is concerned the NT1100 at about 13,500 dollars would cannibalize Goldwing sales that cost circa 24k. I rode the Rebel 1100 and it's a good bike that fits the type of ride you mention which is not necessarily touring. Honda maximizes the use of engine platforms that are centered around the efficient and capable parallel twins. Use your substantial influence to nudge Honda into explaining their rationale with keeping the NT1100 out of America. The touring possibilities below the Goldwing is an obvious hole in the lineup not fulfilled with the Rebel 1100T.
I agree with you. I rode the NT1100 manual for a week last year in France. It was seriously a great bike. Definitely would have considered it if it were available here. Instead I went for an almost new FJR.
I do like the bike (and green is nice), but the one no go for me is the chain... just not my choice. Belt or shaft is my preference. For what that is designed, it should be a winner. From the rear view...that poorly designed right bag and muffler is terrible visually.
I AM GLAD YOU LIKE MY DESIGN A HAD A GOOD TIME DEVELOPING THAT MOTORCYCLE OF COURSE I CANNOT DO ANYTHING WITHOUT THE LORD'S HELP ♥️ THANK YOU FOR THE FLOWERS 🌹 LOVE FROM MISSISSIPPI USA 🇺🇲
LOL nice job Honda another knockoff Harley. They tried to make this one look like a Street Glide. Just stick to making the awesome Gold Wing, Sport bikes, and dirt bikes.
Last year I purchased the 2022 Honda Rebel CMX1100 DCT Model with only 1224 miles on the clock and I think it’s awesome! It’s not the Touring model, but the dealership threw in a Memphis Shades Batwing Fairing at no extra charge. I added some aftermarket saddlebags and swapped out the seat, exhaust, horn and I changed the mirrors to bar end. I only wish that Honda would have put the cruise control on the left side somewhere, and repositioned the turn signal switch so that you won’t accidentally hit the horn button when you signal your turns. Those are my only gripes! Excellent detailed review, thanks. 👍
