This is my thoughts on the 2024 Honda Ridgeline RTL after one month of ownership and how I'm adjusting after moving from a full-size truck to a mid-size truck.

I agree. The naturally aspirated V6, built in bedliner, the deep trunk, the ability to haul 4 X 8 sheets of plywood and drywall with ease, the swing out tailgate, the smooth ride, comfortable wide interior and Hondas reliability and build quality especially on the Vtech V6 are the main reasons I like the Ridgeline the best. I owned 2 Rams , one F150 and 2 Bronocs and I like the Ridgeline the best. Also the Ridgeline has the distinction of being the most American-made pickup truck.

Great review. I researched all mid-sized trucks and ended up with a 2023 RTL and I never even considered a Honda before. Now with a year of ownership I have no regrets. Every time I drive my Ridgeline I appreciate this truck's AWD, cargo capacity, ride comfort, handling, V6 power, and I'm averaging 22 -24MPG.

I have an 18 RTL and just love it. It does have a heated steering wheel and speakers in the truck bed. We've taken it to NASCAR races and used the trunk as a huge beer cooler because it has a drain plug. Speakers in back and to the tailgating experience.

Nice video. I've had a 2017 for almost 6 years. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Ridgeline's cabin space and rear seat set up with the ease of folding (You can do it one handed) is just unmatched right now. You can fit an entire bike back there with the seats folded up or just fold one and still have room for storage and one passenger. Don't know where you live, but wait till you drive on the ice and snow. Damn thing is just a snow beast! Simply rock solid and practical.

I think the RTL is the best value among the trim levels. With leather seats, memory seats, Sirius XM, improved tech center, and power rear window are all the amenities you really need.
@randomstuffwithjoe
@randomstuffwithjoe 20 дней назад
I agree. I do like the blacked out look more than the chrome tho. I ordered the black grill piece to replace the chrome on my front end... and I changed out the chrome badging on the tailgate to black. I now have mostly the look I was hoping for in the upper trim levels. You definitely get a pretty well equipped vehicle in the RTL.. definitely the most bang for buck value compared to the upper trims.

Beautiful truck. There’s a lot to love about Hondas. I recently purchased a Toyota SUV after years of buying Honda’s. I got fed up with Honda refusing to modernize while having higher prices than their competitors. Even at the highest trim, ventilated seats, HUD, 360 cameras and autonomous driving were not even options. I miss Honda’s solid build quality and quiet comfortable interiors. With regular maintenance, they do not break down.
@randomstuffwithjoe
@randomstuffwithjoe 16 дней назад
Oddly, some of the other Honda vehicles have the 360 cams and ventilated seats. I'm not sure why they haven't incorporated them into the Ridgeline. But I'm still pretty happy with the truck. Its more practical for my type of driving than my Silverado was.

I saw one comment talking about how the Honda Ridgeline unibody truck is not a truck because it's not a body on frame. That's like saying the 1969 Corvette body on frame car is a truck. There's no way a body on frame Corvette has a 5000lbs towing capacity with a 1500lbs payload capacity. Worst part is the Toyota Tacoma went with a turbo hybrid, turbo's make cars really inefficient. Especially when you stepping on the gas, the naturally aspirated engine will be more efficient. The new Toyota Tacoma front differential already broke, and with a small fuel tank of 18.2 Gallons, it doesn't go far at all. 350 miles of range without towing, but with towing, especially with a turbo expect 5-10mpg. The honda Ridgeline is not only more efficient, it has a bigger fuel tank, and with no turbo, mpg will be looking pretty good. With midsize pick-up trucks a unibody just makes sense, the body on frame doesn't get fully utilized like the full size trucks do. The size of an engine does play a part of fuel economy, but a turbo will always destroy MPG, just the reality.

I have a 23 RTL and have been very happy with it. I am thankful not to have the rough ride of other pickups like the Tacoma or Maverick. I wish the mpg was better on the Ridgeline, but a hard cover on the bed raises highway mpg to about 28 mpg.

I was considering trading my Silverado before the release of the 2024 but I didn't like the armrest and center console. I decided to hold off hoping the changes in '24 would sway me. But I ultimately decided to keep my Silverado for the sole reason that it was paid off. But when the Transmission failed.. I had no choice and the changes to the Ridgeline, tho minor, were enough to sway me. I was only getting around 14mpg city and 18-19mpg highway in my Silverado.. so the 19 city and 25 Highway on the Ridgeline is a welcome improvement.

Nice video, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I made a similar decision in 2022 when I downsized from our Ram to an RTL-E. I initially loved the car like ride and handling, the ease in parking and like you pointed out, the storage. I too especially liked the in-bed storage area as it came in handy taking boat related items to our marina. I’m older and retired and climbing in and out was also very easy. I say “was” because after a few road trips to visit our grown children and grandkids the highway experience wasn’t so great for us. The Ridgeline lacked highway power on long road trips and couldn’t get over 10 mpgs on rare occasions when we towed our boat. While I liked a lot of features my wife wouldn’t let up regarding the cartoon like graphics on the info system and the really poor navigation maps (RTL-Es had nav). The Ridgeline lasted 6 months and we traded it in for an F150 4X4 V8 which incidentally gets 18-22 mpg (more than I ever saw in the Ridgeline). It’s funny how things can come full circle. Earlier this year I had some serious health issues and surgery, we sold the boat, aren’t doing road trips anymore and I’ve been thinking about revisiting the Ridgeline Black edition. Hence I came across your video. Great video, hope you love it. Sounds like you had a better mindset going into the Ridgeline, maybe my timing was just a bit off. Funny I came across your Indian video as well, glad you like it. I Also sold our Harley and went to a Can Am RT Limited (anyone can ride one of these). Best of luck. G 😊

I got a Trailsport in March and I couldn’t be happier, I did a road trip from Quincy to lake George NY on the mass pike 70-80 mph and I averaged 27.7 mpg . I traded my Tacoma for the Ridgeline and it’s a 100x better for daily driving.

I've only done one road trip so far. From Medway to Bennington VT to get my daughter from college. It was around 340 miles round trip and I was averaging about 25 mpgs. Not horrible. My old Silverado used to average around 19 mpgs on that same trip. The real savings for me is daily driving. My silverado only got around 14mpgs city.. and I'm not getting around 19mpgs. Great Review Joe! I have a 2021 RTL-E. My first truck and love it. Smooth ride, all the tech I want, love the bed liner, swing gate and trunk. I have the Honda hard tonneau cover cause it secures the bed better than a soft that can be easy cut into. Also have the Honda lighted side steps cause my wife is short and I like the lights. And, the mud flaps. I’m going to switch to all black wheels in the fall after the original tires have run their tread life. Not going to switch tire size because it changes speedo accuracy. Like u, wish the trim was black but can live with it. It fits nicely in my garage with a full size would not. I too get an avg 21-22 mpg around town and 26 on the highway. Truck is great for all my DIY projects and yard work.

I agree with all of what you said as I drove a Colorado and didn't like the interior space or the engine noise inside the cab. It is the best practical vehicle available, in my humble opinion. I did add a VCM muzzler, black running boards, and mud guards. I do wish it had parking sensors, surround cameras, and rear view mirror camera as the visibility out the back is not the best. I plan to dump the oil at about 1000 miles and change every 5000 after that as I plan to keep it for some time. It's a smooth running nice riding vehicle. Maybe not the best off-road, but for snow and ice it should be great. I am retired and plan on selling my 2017 Avalon and having this for my only vehicle. Thanks again.

Im still driving a Dodge Dakota 2006 and have recently been researching new mid sized trucks. Until recently Honda was never even on my radar however the more research i do on the Ridgeline the better i like it. I have owned a turbocharged vehicle in the past and once the turbo charger goes out the vehicle is literally worthless not to mention very expensive to repair. Its a shame the other trucks are all migrating to turbo charged 4 cylinder engines which will always be a deal breaker for me personally. Thanks for this informative video.

I've never really considered a mid-size truck. They always seemed too small/compact on the interior. But I've come to realize I no longer need a full size truck and mid-size is more practical for someone like me. In my opinion.. the Ridgeline is the best mid-size for the money. Unless you need more than 5000lb towing.. this truck will do everything better then the rest.

I just passed 5000 miles on my 2024 Ridgeline Black Edition and compared to my previous midsize trucks, I love it. It's a little bigger and more spacious than the Frontier and Colorado that I've previously owned without being too big to revenuer easily. I also chose it for Honda's reliability and I chose the BE for the extra comfort features (heated steering wheel, vented seats, etc), which are important to me since I commute 2 hrs everyday. It gets great fuel economy and even after I disabled the VCM. The downsides: weak spongy brakes and awful Honda Sensing driver assist accuracy. Overall, this is the best truck I've every owned and I plan to keep it for the long term.

be careful with that Jsport leveling kit. I did front and back and it worked well for about 5,000 miles until someone pulled out in front of me and the Honda system locked up all the brakes and basically saved my life. But in doing so, i heard a very loud clunk up front and that was it, it turned into a noise making monster because those front leveling disks moved and wouldn't stop moving. Honda tried to rectify but they just couldn't get the noise to stop. Traded my 21 for a 23 and off I went. Honda stripped the Jsport kit off, took it back to stock and sold it. I've read multiple users on the TRAXX level kits and I haven't seen any issues. Course these kits void your warranty unless Honda installed, so I wouldn't do an aftermarket install until your warranty is out. Front clearance is my ONLY gripe, my son's Subaru Forester has better front clearance and that's messed up. Rear is fine.
@randomstuffwithjoe
@randomstuffwithjoe 19 часов назад
I’ve been tempted to do the Traxx kit but the JSport kit is a Honda approved kit. Plus it’s aluminum so it’s more corrosion resistant. I’m still undecided if I even wanna do it. It’s mostly for looks and now that I’ve had the truck 2 months.. the desire to modify it is fading. lol. As for voiding the warranty.. Honda would have to prove the modification caused the warranty issue. For example, they can’t refuse to fix a radio issue because you installed a leveling kit. That’s not how it works. lol.

@TrilithiumBanditKelsey

Before putting more money into this thing, I'd recommend driving it about 5-10k more miles. We had a 2019 RTL-E, and it was one thing after another, and at 48k the transmission crapped out. We never towed with it, it was basically a pavemet -princess. Now, the transmission was covered by warranty... Honda had actually extended the warranty on it because it was known to be problematic; however, before replacing the transmission under warranty, it had to fail completely. That's a very crappy thing to do to a customer, especially if the transmission has known design issues. I finally got rid of the truck before the next recall, which was replacing some defective piston-rod bearings. It's a real shame because I really enjoyed having it otherwise; it had great features, just awful tooling or engineering. We traded it in on a used Tundra; oddly we traded a Tundra for the Ridgeline... better gas-mileage, better security--although the walkaway auto-lock only worked correctly half the time. But, the Tundra is such a no-brainer when it came to reliability. They probably told you this already... that transmission, it needs to be serviced every 30k, drain-flush-fill... and it's not a cheap service, around $800.00... just a heads-up. Hopefully, Honda has improved the build quality on these things. Good luck!
@randomstuffwithjoe
@randomstuffwithjoe 10 дней назад
The Ridgeline no longer uses the same transmission as they did in 2019. I did a lot of research and 2017-2019 were problematic years for the truck.
