I'm loving the changes we made to our guest bedroom!! ... but, I am feeling like I should white wash the dresser to pull any yellow out of the wood and help it flow better.... what do you think? Also, do you like the green, or do you think I should repaint the drawers to be more of a terracotta color (or something totally different?!) haha Let me know!! -Amanda*

I like the green drawers. It draws in the green from the picture above the bed. I do think toning down the yellow in the wood would look better.😊 I always look forward to and enjoy watching your videos. I just don't comment very often.😁

I agree about the wood. It's a beautiful dresser, but the wood doesn't go with the rest of the room. I love the fact you repurposed a dresser instead of buying a new one. Congrats on the mattress sponsorship!

Hi, I think that black will look better instead of green on the dresser. It will match the hardware and doors in the office/ hall and match better in the room with the rug. You did a great job refinishing it!

Hi Amanda, I refurbish wooden furniture for a living. Here's a few tips (feel free to ignore them lol): only ever use a sander in the direction of the grain of the wood to avoid leaving sander marks. You don't always have to use varnish/polyurethane; a clear beeswax will give you a waterproof coating but also feed the wood to avoid splitting (apply with a soft cloth & reapply once every 12 months). If you do use polyurethane, you're right to say it lifts the grain so you need to do a light sanding, but you really do need to do a second coat after that as you've actually removed the sealer coat from the tiny bits of lifted grain. If you feel the wood finish might look too yellow, you can add a tiny bit of water based white paint to your poly - you could still do that now with a second coat. I love the green in that room but I think in this instance I'd have actually painted the whole unit except the top as the tongue & groove would be pretty painted. Lots of love x

I like the green on the dresser but the rest does look a little yellow so I get what's bugging you. I'd try a whitewash or add white to the poly like the comment from the other viewer said.

I love the dresser transformation, however, I agree it's looks a bit yellow for that room. I prefer the raw wood look you had after sanding.

I always buff my projects with a brown paper bag after I've applied my final coat of sealer (I prefer shellac).

You could also add some bigger Rosemary colored EURO PILLOWS and covers that would most likely go over the headboard. I love your channel. It inspires me. Love your advice and how you talk through everything! It’s so helpful.

Yes I agree with this. I do interior design and you can have multiple types of wood and wood tones in a room, with the colors or other elements helping to pull it together. The blue seems off but if you add green to the bedding, it’ll pull together. It’s probably different in person, but from the video, the baskets under the nightstands and the blanket basket in the corner have the same wood/yellow tones as the new dresser. Just add in greens and I think it would all come together. I would also add a thicker duvet/ comforter, especially during winter months to help with the cozy look and balance the visual weight of the rug. The bed looks very boxy with the thin bedding. Guests love fluffy and puffy bedding! All of this is meant as kind criticism so I hope it comes across that way! And It also helps that the dresser is not in the first line of sight when you look at the bed. Good luck!! You’re doing a great job!

Yes☝ I love the green on it's own. However I think staying with just a couple finishes on the furniture looks best. Like the natural wood bed and black nightstands. I'd do the whole dresser to match the nightstands. A black color also ties in the rug. Looks great though!

I think the dresser would be beautiful black. I always get a child’s room vibe when drawer fronts are painted a contrasting color to a furniture piece. Your home is beautiful!

If you do not want to keep the green, I would match something to go with your headboard/foot board. I don't think the way you have it now is bad at all.

Remember you asked…I don’t love that piece … I do not think that wood the chunkiness is your style. Having said this, I would paint all but the top and I would white wash the top to match the headboard!! Everything else looks great as usual!!!

I would have painted it all the green color because you have so many different colors in that room, the headboard, end tables , rug, bedding . Lots going on. I would also get a big tray and put on top so that when you have company over, they have an area to put keys, phones, etc to go on and not mess up the paint. I’d also pick up a pillow in that same shade of green.

The rosemary is very pretty! A white wash or even a lighter brown wash to give it a tone closer to the bed frame. I loved seeing the furniture refinishing.

Love that you do so much with outdated and un-used furniture and make it your own! And agreed, the guest room definitely needed a dresser. While I LOVE the green colors throughout your home, I was not a fan of it on the drawer fronts. I think perhaps painting them black to match the nightstands and somehow toning down the overall stain is definitely a good idea and may be closer to the bed frame tones. The natural wood and black is very neutral so whenever you do tire of the color scheme you can easily change out pillows, bedding, artwork and throws and bring in a completely different look. For now, You can always add in your green collor with new decorative pillows on the bed and a new throw, candles, etc.

I like the idea to white wash the wood to match the bed just a little bit better. And I do also agree with people saying to incorporate that dark color from the side tables, rug and hardware throughout the house.

We just got an adjustable mattresses. Our king size mattress was over 10 years old. My husband couldn’t sleep on it. He’s been sleeping on the couch for about 2 years. Finally we got twin adjustable mattresses. We’re in heaven ❤. I’m so glad you found that dresser. ❤.

You made a great job on the set of drawers, you sanded them down lovely and the end result with the green drawers looked gorgeous. And tidying up outside made such a big difference. Hello, I like the natural color for the dresser all the way. Since you paint the drawers green add a green bed drow to tie it in better. I like you found an all wook dresser that fits the corner, it can be challenging. For the cat issue, pour wite vinegar on the the item and let it dry then power wash it off. The vinegar will nurtalize the urin and remove the smell.

I like the dresser as is, but I think it will lok better with the headboard if it is whitewashed. As for the doors, since the light flowing into the hall would be nice, put up french doors with glass panes and leave the drapes up to be used for privacy.

For the dresser instead of doing a white wash, consider doing a tan wash with a *tiny* bit of green added. Apparently green neutralizes yellow/orange tones. Also I think the drawers would look good black to coordinate with your end tables. But it definitely looks better than before!

I always put a new mattress cover on a new mattress, to protect it from spills, bedwetting, allergens, mites, and even bedbugs! I also always buy zippered pillow protectors when buying new pillows for the same reason. It is so easy to pull off the pillow protectors to wash and the pillow stays brand new.

I like the new dresser. I do think a light whitewash on the box of the dresser would be nice & tie to the headboard better. And maybe a pillow in those green tones will put that 3rd piece of green in the room that our eye wants.

Before you even said it, I was thinking, "She should have whitewashed the dresser." Lol! SO I think if you're up for it, that would be a great choice. You could even use a "white" paint that has a sliiiiight undertone of purple to tone down the yellow hue. Looks great, though! And I love that Rosemary color! I might use that on my entryway when I put up beadboard and hooks for our winter coats!

Love the dresser! But i agree you need to tone down the yellow, if only because it doesn't match anything else in the room. A white wash would work, or you could paint it black to match the nightstands (leaving the draw fronts green) For your guest room doors, could you do double doors with glass? As in fully glass apart from the frame. (you could also have it with one side fixed like a full height window, or windows either side, if you dont want or need to have double doors). On the frame I would either match the wood stain to your office doors or probably go with black. You could keep the existing curtains for privacy when people are using the room, but having the doors would make it feel so much more private and act to isolate any noise as well. When not in use, having mostly glass doors would still allow a lot of light through the window into the hallway. If you are going to go with doors then definitely build them in and don't go with the sliding barn door style, as whilst it looks nice it doesn't do much to block sound. If you dont want to keep the existing curtain set up the blinds directly on the doors that can be pulled fully up would also work well, which is probably what i would do. Just my two cents!

I agree, the frame needs to 'cool down'. Suggestion: as your poly is water-based, do another coating of poly - mixed with a little off-white paint. Keep the drawers color - looks great.

I think black would match the side tables and would pick out black in the curtain poles. I love the way the kitchen table and chairs is a great combination maybe have the drawers in the wood grain and the unit. Black very smart xxx

I think the dresser is beautiful! So just a thought, maybe tying in some more green in the room that matches the dresser. Such as maybe find a throw blanket at the end of the bed that has green tones like the dresser.

Consider a door with a transom window above to utilize the incoming light from the large window.

If you do anything else to the chest of drawers….I’d go with your favorite black paint on the drawers . Also, the refinishing lady was correct with light sanding after the coat of poly then adding a poly coat back over after wiping the piece down after sanding….or, apply a coat of Bees wax.

Looks gorgeous! I agree that the tone of the wood does not go with the tone of the other woods in the room. What about staining the wood to match the headboard and frame? The grain pattern won't match but it could bring everything together. The color of the drawer is beautiful!

Hey Amanda~I think the dresser looks great and just want to point out that the wood tones don’t have to match. It gives the room visual interest and style. Although, if the wood looks yellow then I would mix white in the poly and apply another coat. I know 41 degrees sounds so cold to you. Here in Michigan, it currently is 8 degrees, lol and they called off school. With the windchill it’s in the negatives and dangerous to go outside. 🥶
