I have watched a ton of videos on Hoyt Alpha and the Lift. I really appreciate you providing a demonstration that I could reproduce allowing me to experience the stability of the longer riser. I have experienced strong wind gusts so that was a very realistic consideration for me. Thanks so much
I really like that you brought someone in looking to buy and had them shoot a few options. It also enhances comments from you that are informative to the people Watching for more insight. Thanks!!
Really looking forward to part deuce. Will help me a lot to better understand what to look for when purchasing and having a new bow properly set up. Thanks
Great video as always. Though I may not always agree, I always learn something to add to my archery toolbox of knowledge. Thank you for these and your other videos.
I really appreciate the honesty, and the neutral comparison between all the bows. Not being affiliated with one or the other companies makes the decision process more real. It does in the end come down to what fits each person better. I’m looking forward to seeing the full bow build.
Thank you for these videos, after a several year break I’ve gotten back into shooting with my grandson. Your process of working with clients to score bows is really good and solid, great job. We were out shooting Friday and my grandson is consistently low right 12”. Can you do a video for us beginners on what to look for so we understand the problems we are experiencing and how we mayaddress the problems at home?
Great video, love to see the short ATA bows get some love for once. Mathews Lift is an amazing bow and by far the one i would pick of these 4 options, surprised how poorly the bow tech did
love this video, I am a short guy also 5'7" ( thanks mom and dad) and have been shopping and researching bows for my first bow purchase. Just waiting for my local shops to get some Mathews bows in so I can do this same type of comparison. My buddies have Hoyt, Bear and Mathews but I figure Buy once Cry once.
Thanks for the run down on how to select a bow. You are so right that a bow for a person is specific to the individual. Most manufacturers make great equipment so it just boils down to side by side for everyones decision. I picked a Darton over a Bowtech and Mathews last year and am pleased with that personal choice.
Im a Mathews guy and I think its because the familiarity with always having a Mathews but I almost bought the Alpha X because to me it was RIDICULOUSLY smooth to draw. I have a 28" draw. The LIFT won out because it felt better in my hand and the Alpha X felt like a tank in my hand after the LIFT. All these bows are SICK!!! Id take any of them into the woods.
It's critical with the available technology today to try multiple brand's and designs. I took your advice and tried 4 different bows, three different brands and settled on the Hoyt Alpha X. All of my hunting is done near my residence in coastal NC so the 30" fit my style of hunting from a saddle even with a 29.5 " draw length. Great content!
Awesome video! Would love to see one with the longer bows. Alpha x 33, evolve 33 and the lift 33. As a leftie my bow shops don’t usually bring in all the high end bows for me to test so I like watching these comparison videos to help me arrow down the choices.
Something that I have found very critical for me is how sensitive and constant a bow is to form. I find that different bows may be more or less forgiving to each individuals hand placement and release. I test this during my tuning phase by shooting multiple arrows through paper to see how small hand placement changes and torque affects arrow tune. This seems to help with overall accuracy and consistency in most cases.
Love the video I think Kieth and I are pretty similar size draw length and draw weight, also looking for same things in a bow I also shoot a hoyt now this was very helpful for me as I’m looking for a new bow
I would love to see a video like this with the longer version bows! While not the focus of this video the speeds generated at 27” draw and 60 would be interesting. Good process, great content!
Its so unique how one bow fits each and every person differently. Trying out all bows really do help, once you shoot the right one you know immediately which one is for you. They all are good bows cant go wrong with any of them. Just gotta pick the right one. Fun video
Another excellent video and strait to the point sign me up for the longer axle bows even tho I have a short draw always been more partial to 33-35 bows
Thank you. Good timing for me. I'm buying a bow this year and haven't bought one in 20 years. I'm obviously starting from scratch since their are not many similarities anymore to what I have.
Went through it last year as a first timer getting into the sport. Sadly I don't have a competent pro shop near me. His videos really helped and I ended up buying the bowtech reckoning gen 2. The amazing tuneability was the major selling point for me, because I had to do everything on my own and I love tinkering. But being able to go to a good pro shop and shoot all the different bows and have them set up correctly is amazing. Hope you have that opportunity!
I’m looking at the 33”. I’ll fly out there and have you help me. 😁 I currently shoot the RX7U in 80#. Looking at the new Alpha X, Lift, SR Core, and Elite. Wanting to stick with either 75 or 80 pounds, so the Bowtech may already be out unless we can get a SX80 in the mix. I’m also interested in the Prime, but I don’t have a Prime dealer close to me.
I’ve shot the new Mathew’s Hoyt and bowtech. And the Hoyt alpha x 33 felt the best to.. I’m coming from a bowtech sr350. It really is the person shooting the bow and I do also believe that everyone of these bows will feel different at different draw links that’s just my opinion
Getting both ends of the spectrum would be good to see. I’d also be interested to see how Keith compares to someone else on the grips, draw cycle and back wall at those longer draw lengths
Just bought a bowtech core sr, I did try the Mathew’s bow, and think that I’ll be picking one up as a second. And I do love watching all your episodes. I live away up in Virden, Manitoba, and there’s not too many places close for me to take my equipment in, that’s one reason I bought the bowtech was the ease of tune ability.
I like the idea of this video. Take any person and fit a bow to them. I’m on the market for a budget long draw bow. Every shop I’ve walked into they just tell me 1-2 options and it’s never great.
Nice job, and since Keith’s #2 priority was Accessories, did anyone film his reaction at the cash register once he saw the cost of the Mathews stabilizers and quiver system? It’s almost like paying for another bow..😢
I'm getting ready to buy a new one with a longer riser. Shot the elite, lift, phase 4, but not the core SR yet. I'm in Utah. I'll volunteer for the video.
I shoot an Evo xf 33 right now. That being said I’ve shot the new Hoyt’s,elites,Mathews. When I first shot the alpha x, in thought man I might be buying a Hoyt this year. Especially since I was considering carbon and liked the 1/4 inch draw increments. After shooting the lift 33, imo is a way better shooting experience then the others I listed. Plus it’s as light or lighter then most carbon bows out.
Just curious are we gonna get a 5 bow build from you this year because last year's was a 4? It would be cool to do a carbon bow for this as well. Love the content. Helps me be a better shooter.
I hope they focus on draw cycle and long range accuracy. And do this test outdoors. And throw some real world durability testing (who hasn't dropped their bow before).
I wish i had someone to go through bows like this with. Would have made a big difference for me a few years ago when i bought my Axius Ultra. Which i love but maybe I would have ended up with something different.
When you did the ‘wind gust’ test, it seemed like you exerted more force on the PSE than you did the Matthew’s. You pushed/pulled it harder for a longer duration.
Mathews, Hoyt, Bowtech, Prime, PSE, Darton, Bear, Elite, Athens - all putting out some solid choices. This was done right - shoot a bunch and pick the one you like and go with it. A significant majority of archers are the limiting factor in terms of accuracy, not the bow they shoot.
My guess is this guy was looking for a shorter A to A than the 34" on the Ronan. I think the Ronan will be a huge hit for Prime this year, and clearly Prime is the only company listening to the truth of the economy right now. I have close ties to a couple archery shops, and they are ordering significantly less bows this year because sales are WAY down across the board. @@ShawnGilbert1967
I would give anything to be able to go into a bow shop and be able to shoot 4 bows to decide what I like being low poundage nobody around me carries all the bows to shoot so I always have to go off reviews on what to buy . Sometimes they might have a bow to shoot but never multiple jealous that I’m not strong enough to be in the 60 lb range . Awesome videos I know it’s a tuff sell for a bow shop to carry low poundage bows around me it’s all special order . Guess it’s like being a lefty lol
The fact Mathews made a LIGHTER aluminum bow than the RX8 and RX8 Ultra, which is fricking CARBON, and made it FASTER.... blows my mind. Oh and it's way cheaper. Oh and the accessories are basically the same, maybe better in some ways and worse in others. (This is coming from someone who loves his RX7-Ultra and isn't upgrading this year anyway)
The draw cycle of the Lift sucks. The Hoyt is amazing. The rest I agree with you. But seriously a lot of us mathews fanboys are not happy Mathews decided on an aggressive cam (but any engineer would see they had no choice with their new design of shaving weight at all costs). We are now sutck with a "stiff" draw that wasn't good on the cross centric cams to begin with. And now they made it worse to sell to people who shoot more at the place they buy than out in the woods. SMDH. Nobel Prize to Mathews marketing department. Talk about "vendor lock-in" - if you don't know that term you and I cannot be friends.
It's only like a tenth of a lb on paper right? The switch weight mods from other bows won't fit from what I've heard. So the only thing interchangeable is the 800 dollar stabilizer set up, right? I have an rx7, and my rx8 showed up today, I personally like the hoyt grip, and draw cycle better, always have. Both great bows im sure, to each their own, etc...
@@WolfinWolvesClothing713oh for sure. I love my RX7, I was just surprised that the middle finger Mathews was giving carbon bows paid off when they made this one so light.
@@WolfinWolvesClothing713 Yeah...only 0.1th of a lb on paper. Also $700 cheaper than the RX8. The point is that Mathews achieved a bow that weighs what the carbon bows do at an aluminum riser price.
I would love to see this kind of thing for target bows. I would love to hunt, but I don't know where to start so I am hanging in the 3D world with some indoor on the side. Really want to good target setup but I feel like a fish out of water trying to figure out what to try to save up for
shorter bows will react different in draw cycle, stability, and shootability.. itd be interesting to do a short bow vs longer bow comparison for different shooters.
PSE all day everyday for me. Much better cam efficiency. Better draw cycle although this guy was trying to pull the cams off of both bows. the Lift is a huge improvement for Mathews for sure. But I love PSE carbon bows
I went from pse to xpedition a couple years ago just because I wanted a complete change. I went from light to a heavy bow. Still getting used to it,but I think I like shooting the heavy bow.
Do you have a breakdown for draw length to bow length axel-to-axel? I am 5'9" and have about a 28.5 draw length and shoot a 34 axel-to-axel bow, should I be shooting a 29.5?
The SAS is great because of the mathews peep twist issues. APA been doing it for years..but you still have no way to micro tune your timing without buying string spacers....love the SAS and the tripod is the greatest must have accessory
You can’t really complain about the test results. Seemed pretty fair and objective to me. The one thing that did surprise me was the grip decision! Absolutely hate the engage grip!
Its crazy how different everyone is. I shot Alpha x and Lift side by side at the shop. I went into the shop with a Lift build list and I left ordering the Hoyt. Shop owner said i was the 12th guy that did that in a week. I can see the Lift lunging foward out of his hand on the shot like a spring, he didnt mind it but i sure did when i shot. Believe it or not, the Hoyt seemed quiter to me when I shot too. Also the let-down on the Lift was terrible. My draw length is 27.5 also, shot 70lbs and I loved the Hoyt draw cycle, he hated the hoyt draw cycle at the same length. When were talking weight being 3.9 to 4.2 difference, i mean come on guys. I think were getting super ridiculous. Your body will absolutely adapt to whatever weight you use when your talking about 0.3 lbs difference. So that wasnt a factor for me either because im an adult. Ive never owned a mathews or a hoyt so i waas unbiased coming in to the shop also.
I agree with you. I shot the Matthews, Hoyt, Bowtech, PSE, and Elite. I was walking in expecting to leave with the RX8. Shockingly I let with Elite carbon ERA. I thought the PSE was the most aggressive, and Bowtech and Hoyt had the best draw. Matthews had an aggressive draw (to be expected with an IBO that high) and felt top heavy and liked it wanted to jump forward. I prefer the elites grip, weight, tunability, speed, and brace height. The shot was crisp. Never owned an elite, didn't see that coming.
I shot MANY bows at 28". I bought the LIFT because the weight and feel were better in my hand. I agree with you 100% on your assessment of the Hoyt. I came very close to buying the Alpha X. I wish I could have both.
To me, any of these bows would be an enormous upgrade. But, I would have to pass on the PSE because of the short riser. Being 6 feet tall and having a 30 inch draw, I've found them unstable. Which you actually showed.
@longshotdiedtired1582 For the longest time (20 of my 30+ years of shooting a bow), I've gravitated to the shorter ATA bows. With short risers. Mainly because of being a treestand hunter. But, in the last few years, I've been looking at bows at least 32 inches ATA. And with longer risers. My 2 bows right now are a 2007 Diamond Triumph that is 31.5 ATA with a 23 inch riser, and my new 2022 Bear Legit that is a little shorter at 30 inches ATA, but has about a 26 inch riser. They are night and day as far as stability goes. The Legit hardly moves at all in my hand, but the Triumph wants to sway almost. Any significant wind, and it's all over the place.
Can you possibly do a review on the APA archery black mamba bow. I’m just curious to see if their claims of 360 fps IBO speed is real. They also have some neat technology.
So I have said this before every person should shoot the bow blind folded first as long as u can do it safely because it makes a huge difference in feel and balance and it takes away your visial bias. And if u give the bow to them and they dont know which one they are shooting then it takes away any bias they may have. I have coached archery for a number of years and if u start people off like that it really helps them key in on the aspects that are naturally a good fit for them. It works people need to try it more
