2024 Hyundai i30 Sedan N (inc. 0-100 & braking) review: This is the BEST affordable hot sedan!

It’s a big call, but I think this is the BEST affordable performance sedan on the market. It’s damn quick through the corners, quick in a straight line and sounds absolutely unreal.

A number of people have called out that the car may not have been in “octane learning mode” during the performance runs. It’s a strange thing given the knock sensor should take care of that almost immediately. But I’ll get the car back and run it through the learning mode and try performance runs again to see if it makes a difference.
@matt.ja90

Should notice a huge difference, I do in my N Sedan anyway
@rsoul7282
@rsoul7282 4 месяца назад
I absolutely agree with this, ‘octane learning mode’ to me sounds like a whole bunch of nonsense, engines have had knock sensors for decades, which are used to advance or retard ignition timing. This whole thing about running premium fuel and the car then increasing boost pressure seems rather strange, perhaps the engineers who frequent YT comment sections can educate a scrote like me?
@matt.ja90
@matt.ja90 4 месяца назад
@@rsoul7282 it's a BS mode that us N owners complain about but it must be for some kind of engine protection that will only provide maximum boost when it senses the octane rating above 95 I'd assume
@rsoul7282
@rsoul7282 4 месяца назад
@@matt.ja90 I totally get that, but I don’t understand how the vehicle could possibly be ‘analysing the fuel’, are there a team of dwarves confined to the fuel tank with a chemistry set, or are Hyundai bigging up the knock sensor as if it is some modern marvel of engineering prowess exclusively featured on their cars?

@@joec.5009 I respect your opinion! The Golf may come across as grown up and a little dull, but there is 50 years worth of heritage to live up to and I believe timeless design compared to Hyundai's young upstart. I don't think the i30 Sedan will age well with such a polarizing design, however they seem to be selling which suggests there is a market for such a car. @@givvia6782 In the US, we don't typically associate Volkswagen (VW) with 'heritage'. Hyundai and Kia had a bad reputation in the past, but they are working to improve their image drastically. I do agree these designs are not timeless. but so is most new cars. i can't stand to look at the latest bmws. I used to be brand loyal, always driving BMW 3 Series, and now I'm on my second X5. However, I'm now considering the Hyundai Ioniq 5N for my next car. I'm really excited about it. I've never really been interested in driving a GTI. Here, the GTI is just another car. Maybe the Golf R would catch my attention, but the GTI doesn't. Many people still believe VWs are unreliable; they have a bad reputation for reliability. i've driven these fun cars. Elantra (i30) N is by far the most fun car i've driven since my E46 M3.

The 0-100 and 80-120 times are very similar to the Sonata N Line, notably the pre-facelift, the 2024 facelift is slightly heavier so it’s a bit slower by a few tenths than the pre-facelift, I don’t think you’ve ever reviewed the Sonata on your channel.

@HarmanMotorWorks
@HarmanMotorWorks 4 месяца назад
Looks like it's not octane learnt...shame. And no, the knock sensor won't just "take care of that". Octane learning is a whole other beast and you need to go through a whole 'learning process' which ridiculously resets itself with every tank fill and also at random times throughout a tank of fuel. Hyundai unfortunately chose to nerf this sedan with that horrendous learning BS. I know because I have one. A '22 model. But thankfully a Stage 1 tune fixes that right up and gives you 20PSI all day, every day, the way the car should be from the factory! 👀 P.S. When learnt you'd get 17-19 PSI on the boost gauge. May not sound like much more but you definitely feel it and you'll get a better 0-100 time.

@mharro88 watch @ 4:47 it wobbles. I test drove and sat in 3 different ones and the dash wobbles too. The bonnet was all aligned wrong with one side having a large gap and the other no gap. It has the interior quality of a $25k base car.

@@big98181 weird don't see that with mine. It's very solid. 2023 model PFL. The bonnet in the new one looks like shit anyway. The screens move a little as all screens in cars do , they're meant to flex to adjust to ambient temperatures but nothing crazy. No rattles in mine,there was more rattles in the new honda type R I drove . Performance rivals cars worth 80k and I track it regularly. I wouldn't let that put you off .

I really really wanted one of these, but this review is reminding me I am 6'2" and this car is made by Koreans for Koreans I might not even fit in it properly. wasn't an issue for their older cars but they really seem to be getting smaller inside the Santa Fe from the 2003 model to the 2013 model went from enough head room to survive a crash to, my seat is lowered all the way and my hair nearly touching the roof. Have to sit in one myself to really see but the back seat is making me wonder.

At I think the octane learning was not completed before the acceleration test. With good petrol and after the learning the turbo pressure can reach 18 psi, and you got 15 psi max. That's why your time was so weak.
