2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 / Real Game Changer

Electric cars are often great on paper, but some of their tradeoffs and flaws keep most from achieving a mainstream status. The Ioniq 6 looks to change that and as a result, it should scare cars like the Tesla Model 3, upcoming Chevrolet Bolt and countless other EVs!

Probably the best way to make a move over an EV is to lease it for 3 years. Then wait to see what will be the new range and new features. If the battery dies it will be on Hyundai and not on you to replace it. At the end, you can get a new EV evolution with better features, more DC fast chargers network, etc. Actually I just read an article that in Europe about 85% of EV drivers prefer the leasing deals for exactly the same reason. I got mine in $37,000 after $7,500 Instant tax cash rebate + $2,500 Loyalty owners + $3,000 from dealership discount... (after buying 8 cars for the same dealership in last 11 years). And I am planning to see what the new cars will be in 3 years to decide if I keep it or not... most probably not. Good Luck!

I own an AWD First Edition since 9 months, and I love it. It has HUD, moon roof, heated rear seats, and here in Germany the HPC coverage is very good, so the fast charging is a real advantage.

From photos and videos, I first thought I didn't like this and it's back was too hunched in the middle but I saw one in person at a dealership for the first time today and it's really good looking! I've never owned or driven an EV but am seriously considering one for my next car. This is now on the short list.

I saw one in person, yeah dog ugly. That funny thing they did with the wing in the back- well Saab did the same thing with their 900 Turbo model back in the 80s ....and that dark IONIQ 6 sign on the trunk lid is copied from modern day Porsches. Need I go on?

Just bought a 2024 Ioniq 6 Limited AWD the other day and it was discounted $7,500 by Hyundai and $3,850 by the dealer. Really helped to push me to buy it. It is definitely a more competitive car at ~$43,000.

I enjoyed your review thanks and just to note reviews don’t seem to notice how intrusive these “bongs” actually are in these new EV’s. I bought one of these cars six months ago and the bongs never stop…it constantly bongs if you put on/off the cruise control, open the door while charging, one km over the speed limit, move into a different speed limit zone, also you have to keep moving the steering wheel or it constantly warns you to put your hands back on the steering wheel by “bonging”. On most trips it warns you to “take a break” if the car wheels go near the roads studs! There appears to be an oppression with bongs!

I had the Ioniq 6 2023 for 10 months and it’s a great car. But in the last few weeks, I am experiencing overheating problems with level 2 charging at home. Result after visiting the dealer for ICCU recall, I lost 50% of charging speed from 9,4kw/hr to 5,3kw/hr… Not clear yet if Hyundai will be helping to fix this but so far not much collaboration. Maybe the reason why there is now a class action Litigation filed. If you have some information related to the issue, it would be great but I suggest potential buyers for 2024 model should be very careful before buying.

Just don't drive over a speed bump hard or hit road debris. Here in Canada Hyundai dealers are recommending replacing the battery pack with minimal damage on the exterior shielding and no warning lights, leading to the vehicle being written off by insurers. Over $60k to replace and install the battery. I'm not sold on EV's yet.
@Realistick
@Realistick 7 месяцев назад
I completely respect the hesitancy but that story is not what it seems. That was one report from a scamming dealership trying to rob an insurance company. It's not enough to damn the Ioniq 6 (that was actually an ioniq 5). The actual owner forums for these and owner reviews from edmunds are overwhelmingly positive. The biggest common issue people should actually be weary over is the 12v electrical system flaw that people were initially experiencing with ioniq 5! Trust me, if people were hitting speed bumps and bricking cars, we'd have class action lawsuits immediately (in fact there was a proposed lawsuit over a few reports of overheating during level 2 charging for the ioniq 5).
@BoopSnoot
@BoopSnoot 7 месяцев назад
A second person came forward that encountered almost the same issue with her vehicle in a follow-up story. Basically, if for whatever reason your battery dies, the replacement costs are so high its a writeoff. Sad. @@Realistick
@Realistick
@Realistick 7 месяцев назад
@@BoopSnoot the cost for a replacement is super high but that dealer was still scamming. The battery price is a valid reason to be skeptical but this sort of issue does not seem to be a common report, these aren’t that easy to break but I’ll keep my eyes peeled for further reports. Hopefully replacement costs can come down but I wouldn’t worry about speed bumps and whatnot!
@genzigzag
@genzigzag 7 месяцев назад
@@Realistick there have been 2 reports so far in Canada with similar outcomes, my point is more along the lines of the broader EV ownership experience, taking into consideration, insuring vehicles, the dealer education and experience(which for Hyundai is abysmal) long term costs, let alone if they battery manufacturers will continue to make that particular battery. Think about it, a 12V automobile battery is standardized. Each EV on the market uses a proprietary configuration, I can't see these cars batteries being supported 7 - 10yrs down the road. Irony is the move to EV is supposed to help the environment, reality is that it will create a vast number of throw away vehicles.

What a nice review. The range would be greatly freeing I would think thankfully not another SUV. I would prefer an EV combination of a smaller size without sacrificing a nice interior like my GTI. Seems to be a missing EV category so far.

@@Realistick Hope shouldn't be part of important financial decisions. Of course, advancing battery technology is also a risk for owners. Perhaps leasing will finally be smart for EVs. Maybe buying the cars but leasing the use of exchangeable batteries will become popular.
@Realistick
@Realistick 7 месяцев назад
@@wholeNwonHyundai says that the adapters should work with all Hyundai EVs with CCS ports by Q1 2025, so that shouldn’t be a substantial factor in determining resale. Hyundai/Kia do not perform great in resale to begin with so perhaps snag up a strong lease deal if you see it.

@@katiecannon8186 I get most _sane_ people anyways are happy to watch from the sidelines. Although for people able to wait to buy, perhaps such a warranty (forget whether it promised 15 years) can help create a market of customers and sufficient demand when they launch it. Even if the warranty wouldn't be as generous with other components. In the meantime, we of course know what we get from gasoline/hybrid vehicles.

EVs are a terrible choice. The 5 year plan for these is to ditch it as like a battery in an iphone, its battery life is quaint. The maintenance on them are replacing the entire battery which seems to cost more than the car and doubles down on pissing off the environmentals. Its a gimmick that the masses havent fallen for.
@Realistick

5 years, you’re kidding right? I’m not the biggest EV guy but if you’re going to bash them, do realize that modern batteries are designed to last 10-20 years of charge cycles and can go 300k miles (many variables there).
