2024 Kia EV9 Review | The 3-Row EV For The Masses?

If you're looking for an EV that's boxy, practical, and well... looks more like an SUV than most, you should check out Kia's new EV9. The only major issue with the EV9 is the range: it could be better, especially in base versions... On the other hand, it charges quickly, will shortly have Tesla Supercharger access, has an enormous third row, and has a big cargo area. Basically: It's the EV version of a Telluride, and that's not a bad thing. But... Is it too expensive?

Love my EV9 Land trim. I'd say the ride quality is very good on the highway, but can be a bit bouncy at lower speeds. For me it was between the R1S and EV9, and I went with the EV9 because Kia had some great lease deals, and the R1S wasn't available to lease in MN. I've had the vehicle for a little over 4 months, and no real complaints.

I've driven the GT-Line and really liked it, but would probably go with the Wind as it still has good power (unlike the anemic Light models) but avoids the large clompy wheels. I'm also hoping the exterior gloss black trim goes away on the Wind, as I can't imagine that wearing very well.

Does the Wind offer the same interior? e.g. 2nd row heating and ventilation, powered third row folding, etc.

1:21 the active shutters do not control airflow across the battery, as this battery is liquid cooled. Instead, the shutters control airflow to the heat exchangers. When the heat exchangers don’t need ambient airflow then the shutters can be closed by the system.

As of last night when I checked on Kia's own website, they were still offering 0% APR on their EV9's. Across all trims. I am earnestly contemplating if I want one. I saw a blue GT Line at a local dealership for 79K While many would think that's pricey, especially since it's "only a Kia". First, if that's what you think check yourself and educate yourself. Kia and Hyundais aren't just "a Kia/Hyundai" anymore. Second, consider what else you can buy in this segment for 79K. The EV9 offers a STRONG value and quality proposition.

My take is that this a very good first-year effort. There are number of things that ought to be improved, and hopefully they will. One of the most glaring is the trims structure. To get what pretty much everybody needs with such a large and unconventionally shaped vehicle - parking and backward visibility aids - one has to go to upper trims, which also pack some expensive yet useless for many customers features. An example of such generally useless feature would be the configurable front illumination, with subscription option no less! It looks nice and futuristic at auto shows, but in real life gets easily damaged by flying debris so common on American roads. Just keep the front end simple and rugged, on all trims! Another thing is the motors options. It is either one 200hp motor at the rear (very underpowered for such a heavy car), or two 200hp motors, which is very good, but I’d argue excessive and too pricey for what is effectively an EV minivan. Some other EV manufacturers are already past that stage and offer single 300hp motor at the rear on base EV trims, which appears to be in a sweet spot. Another common complaint is extraordinarily easily scratchable plastic interior trim. Yet another, that one-pedal driving setting can’t be saved and has to be turned on over and over again, including every time after the car was put in reverse. And of course the infamous placement of the climate control display, grossly obscured by the steering wheel. All of this appears to be relatively easy for the manufacturer to fix. But will it be fixed promptly? So, we’ll see how it all develops. Reviews are positive and sales numbers are good compared to other EVs in this segment, yet Kia has a limited time to refine EV9 and thus cement this EV’s advantageous market position. It can become an iconic family vehicle, like a Honda CR-V or Toyota Highlander, if Kia manages to be just as judicious as these companies applying the continuous improvements.

Sorry, I’ve driven this and it is not an A- for ride. The side to side jostling is so significant that my head was bobbing all the time. 7 grand for a used chevy volt which gets almost all the cost savings from going ev, has no range anxiety, and is a true one car solution. getting 50-55 mi ev range in mine, and paying 21bucks/mo for insurance. dont kid yourself that youre saving any money going with a new ev. you would have to be able to pay for the vehicle after 2 years of ownership like i did to make up for the lost opprotunity cost of going with the cheapest phev in the world. and im not even talking about deprecieation, my volt apprecieated and is worth like 8-9k now lol
