Whether you like it or not, EV's are coming! One of the leaders in the race towards electric mobility is Kia. So, this week we want to look at the 2024 Kia Niro EV and see if Kia made another masterpiece to contribute to the EV world.
The Niro EV is a unique vehicle that only comes in front wheel drive, has a one of a kind design, and sits low and high at the same time. Not to mention it has some of the most comfortable head rests in the market. But the important thing here is how is it as an EV? Join David and Jared as they become "nirologists" this week and see if the Niro pushes Kia one step further into the EV market. It has great standard features like most Kia's, the price is competitive and it looks great too. The 2024 Kia Niro EV is great for someone just entering the EV world, or a seasoned EV veteran.

This week, I leased a new Niro EV Wave trim in Snow White Pearl with the gray aero blade -- payments ended up being less than my current Hyundai lease and I'm getting rebates from my State and utility company for the level 2 charger and professional installation. That is on top of getting the full federal tax credits off MSRP, no sales tax, and a total of almost $10 grand off the price. Shopped at a few dealerships. People are buying hybrids, not EV's, and dealers doing better deals on the unsold EV they have in stock. For my driving habits, the EV makes more sense because I don't drive long distances and don't need to worry about range anxiety when I'll have a home charger available.

@@HoodSlappersOfficial My local electric utility has a rebate program for up to $1500 back on professional installation charges for the Level 2 charger. There's also another State Agency providing $250 rebates for buying that level 2 charger. Plus, NJ doesn't collect sales tax on an EV lease.

The Koreans are truly the master EV builders now, there EVs are great and very well built, unlike Tesla.

How long before the charging infrastructure is in place? If you have your own house and not renting, great. If you rent will you be able to get your landlord to install one for you? If you live in an apartment, who will install charging stations, what if you park on the street, will the city place stations on the street like parking meters. I have seen charging stations, but, only two at a time. Will stores shoulder the cost of adding more? What if you travel, will highways have charging stations, and how long will it take to recharge before you can continue your trip? Now ev's are for short range travel, and a niche, status item, not ready for prime time. Let's see some videos on ev infrastructure build out.

These are all great questions. Unfortunately, we don’t have all the answers. As they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day. There was a time when hydro lines were the big topic of conversation. “How will we provide electricity to every home? That can’t be done”. These things take time. How much time will this take? As much time that is needed. Great questions though. Thanks for watching.

" If you rent will you be able to get your landlord to install one for you?" Yeah, do you know ANYBODY that can get their landlord to do anything except GOUGE? If you RENT and don't have SOLID access to charging, don't buy an EV UNTIL you are comfortable that there is charging infrastructure local and convenient. If you have 110 Volt you can use and don't have a long commute or work from home, then unless you NEED a new car you should just wait or buy used. And that being said, a lot of chargers were STUPIDLY hidden away where they're not OBVIOUS (the Tesla supercharger near me, for example).
