I adore Olympus bridge cameras from the beginning of the millennium. They work like a digital camera, are very sturdy, but still have a film which I love.
Thank you for your review, it’s nice to get a expert to talk openly about out what is basically an entry level camera for most people with great examples of photos (missing from other reviewers) and also an upsell product to move onto plus reasons behind. Was looking at this as a 2nd hand camera and wanted to know how good as most other reviewers don’t really show photos or discuss them saying photos weren’t that great.
I have the AZ528. It is an excellent camera, especially with a tripod. My only gripe is that it takes pretty lackluster video, and it requires quite a bit of lighting to produce an excellent shot. If you know your settings and workarounds, it can be a very good camera on a budget. I’m pretty sure all of these share the same sensors, only difference is the batteries and lenses.
Good video. I have the same camera, and have it as my casual, and long distance shooter. One side note, I took this camera to a Depeche Mode concert, which had strict camera rules, and was allowed to use it. Despite having no manual focus control, challenging lighting conditions, and being far from the stage, I got some great shots. Posted a vid with the images on my channel. This little red camera punches above its weight.
Had a very similar Fuji S4800. (30X) In good light gave some great images. It was a pretty good backyard bird and wildlife camera. Super Macro mode let you almost touch the lens to whatever you were trying to get a shot of. These type of cameras can be a lot of fun to use if you have realistic expectations from them. I bought a couple sets of rechargeable NiMH batteries for it and they would last a long time. Almost never ran out of battery, when one set was getting low just pop the other in and still use the camera while recharging the first set.
Great to hear that @billr6983 yes, it's all about expectations indeed! These cameras won't handle adverse lighting conditions very well, that's for sure!
A few months ago I got the more updated 425 version that I found on sale in a local general store while having a bigger zoom than the 401 the Downside of the newer model depending on opinion is that instead of taking AA batteries that the older models did like the 401 and 405 it takes a purpose made lithium ion battery which although allows the camera to be a little lighter while also getting rid of what is considered to be the design flaw of the older models but introduces The universal flaw of getting replacement batteries as you can't just get them from the local store
Until it died I loved my Fujifilm s9500 and it produced some amazing images. Best feature was the super macro mode, the results were amazing. Happy new year and all the best to you and yours .

The pix pro bridge cameras are good budget cameras especially as they aren't made by Kodiak I recently got the newer 425 model which has a purpose built 1100 mAh lithium ion battery instead of AA batteries which will be harder to replace but is 4 times lighter
The video is great, but I have some doubts about night photos, night videos, indoor photos and videos, like at birthday party. Does it delivers good photos and videos in those conditions? I'm thinking on switching to double A batteries. I have two Sony digital cameras stored, because I can't find batteries for them. So double A will be. I'm thinking in two cameras Kodak Pixpro AZ405 and Nikon B500. If you could help me, which of these will give me the best photo and video results? I'm not a professional. Thank you very much.
Hello! You might be able to find replacement chargers/batteries for the 2 sony's, if you type in "camera model" battery on ebay, it would pop up some results, normally battery+charger are in the $10-15. Anyway, back to your main question. I think if you are using it at night and indoor a lot, truthfully, any of the more budget oriented super zoom's are going to struggle as they operate best with a lot of natural light. In those situations, a camera with a larger sensor; DSLR or mirrorless will handle them much better, but are also a little more expensive. Also, you mention video, and none of the kodak or Nikon's have great video capability. What might be a good fit for your needs would be a used DSLR or mirrorless camera. You can find the Canon Rebel T6 with an 18-55mm lens for example in the $200 range on ebay, so a bit more, but gives you a lot more flexibility, and better shooting indoors and at night. Also should you want, you can get other lenses (like wide angle for your case) that would really improve the look and feel of photos/videos. But if this doesn't work for you, of the 3 cameras you have mentioned, I would lean towards the Nikon B500, I've found it's video to be more in focus and it's a bit sharper for still shooting, particularly with the full zoom engaged. @@pricklypearcamera Hello. Camera manufacturers forget that cameras last for many years. However, in terms of consumables, the same does not happen. Maybe manufacturers should think more about using standard batteries. Like the new Lithium-ion 18650 rechargeable batteries with 3.7v and a maximum of 3500 mah. I'm going on an african safari...would you recommend this camera for a non professional like myself? can I purchase additional telephoto lenses for it?
That sounds fun! This Kodak has a fixed lens, so there are no true telephoto lenses for it. Any additional lens you put on would increase distortion and wouldn't be a true optical zoom addition. I think it's a decent choice for a safari, but if you are looking for something a bit nicer (more accurate colors, less distortion), you could take a look at Panasonic's FZ2500 or Panasonic's FZ80, both are on the used market mainly, and would be more spendy, but they have quite a bit better optical range and more vibrant and color accurate pics.
Is this a good starter camera? I’m in photography class in school and I’ve taken a liking to the cameras and how they take pictures and I’m thinking of asking for this for my birthday that’s coming up because it’s not too pricey
Hi! I think this is a good all around camera. For photography class in school, I would however recommend something that has more manual controls (aperture, white balance, etc.) for you to learn on. I would take a look at a used Canon or Nikon DSLR camera like the Canon Rebel T1i w 18-55mm lens that used is normally around $125, or a Nikon D3100 which used is in the same price range. So similar price to a new Kodak AZ401, but will result in more flexibility and manual controls. Just my two cents anyway.
Hi, yes you can, would not be able to upload wirelessly, but if you remove the SD card once you've shot up to 720P quality video, you can download to your computer.
Hi. How do you get it like into sports mode?Without it being blurry. I haven't figured it out.I thought s was for sports mode, but when I take pictures, say of my doggies Jumping up, it's a blur, not a picture of them caught jumping up.Thank you in advance

Yes, you can. Kodak has a list of all memory types/sizes I believe on their website for the manual PDF for this camera, but assuming the micro SD is compatible, then yes, it should work fine with an adapter.
Decent 720P video, if you have the zoom engaged at all, it can make video output pretty choppy as the cam has a hard time with the frame when it's moving so drastically. But with a tripod or not optically engaged, it takes decent video.
i have one question i do own the same camera for my photography business and lately some of my client claims that my pictures came out too dark even know is was bright light on the day time and indoor when all the light was on so try to figure out how to fix that problem with out doing extra work on editing them
Sorry to hear that! Without looking at the camera/image output, it's really hard for me to say, what the issue could be- when you move to an auto mode in a well lit area, does this issue still occur?
@@pricklypearcamera well not anymore cause my client message me that she like it so and i even show the difference between the original and the one i edit and she like it the original. but to answer your question when i do my picture shot i take with and without flash on a auto mode/standard and when it come the headshot i switch to beauty mode to get a nice picture of the face but being dark i just to see it. could the lighting of the flash cause idk
This camera looks exactly like my Nikon Cool Pix that broke after very limited use, i bought it in 2011 new and the camera will not turn on because of lens issue's and the model was cancelled.
