You’re absolutely correct. I was considering purchasing your bike. I was close to paying the extremely high price for the best of the best, dual sport motorcycle. But after viewing many youtube reviews regarding KTM needing much attention, I decided not to. I currently ride a 2009 WR 450. I added a Baja Design light kit and it is plated. I just replaced my original clutch and am still on the original top end. Still running strong. Thanks bro, sorry you have to deal with that shit.
@@Redwood414 all my mates have around the same amount on there ktms we haven’t rebuilt a motor or anything they had more issues with there Honda and Yamahas compared to ktm 🤷♂️
@william6815 yeah I was talking about the Japanese bikes with cheap motors. If you talk mechanics that work on these bikes they never rebuild ktm 4 strokes
For anyone wondering what the issue was his reeds fell out in the airbox they werent installed properly. You do not need them, another dumb emissions thing to help it run lean with the stock ecu. Youll never have to rebuild a KTM motor thats a Japanese issue. However ktm gets carried away with little accessories like this that have no business on an off road vehicle
the reeds in the airbox on the 2024 500 exc-f are not glued in like last year's bikes so the just fall out . but the 2024 500 exc-f will not run without the reeds in the bike if left stock ... I have a get ecu and a fmf pipe on it now it runs great !
This is probably the only negative instance I have seen on the 24 but they are pretty new yet and made some changes from the 23. Almost sounds like it was fouling a plug and you did lug it pretty good messing around off road. Had a 22 crf 450R do the same thing to me. Bad ecu mapping
I had a 22 KTM 500 EXC-F Six Days that started having issues like this within the first few hours, along with bubbling in my fuel tank. I bought it used with 2 hours on it but it was already out of warranty. I replaced the fuel pump filter with a metal one which took care of the tank bubbling (not something that you should have to do on a bike with 3 hours) and was told I needed to get a Vortex to correct the running issues. I wasn't willing to spend more money on what is already the most expensive dual sport. They are amazing when they run properly but they do make me nervous. I'm still considering a '24 as it really is the best dual sport I've ridden but the issues will always be in the back of my mind. Hope you're able to get it sorted out.
Don't sweat it yet, sounds like something simple. Built on a Friday..and maybe they forgot to tighten something simple. If not make them take it back, get another one.
I was told that this one was mine no given the bike back for another one. I should be glad I got one! Lol 🤣 I glued them in so they don't come out till I want them to. I know what the fix is for it a ecu and a exhaust system 2000 dollars over the price of the bike . I don't make California money if you know what I mean. Sold off some kickass toy for a broken one!
No only my poor riding ability. I checked the intake reeds last night after I watched your video and they were fine i did not pull the cover off as it seemed secure. In one of your videos your bike seemed to be idling high like the high idle was still engaged....I don't know I don't have your experience. It seems we have the same DOT rear tire mine front is a dunlop. If I have problems I'll let you know. @@metalmotomayhem
What a shame, my '22 500 has been great. No issues. And the mechanic at the dealership said they have had very few problems with them since launch. My buddy has a 2017 FE501, 180hrs, same thing, no issues. Both needed to be uncorked though, to stop flame outs, be aggressive. They can have fuel issues with the little cone filter at the quick connector on the fuel line. I put a tank sock in immediately. This sounds like a more advanced problem though for sure.
Furthermore, my 500 has been: smashed into trees, looped out, swamped out, slid down hills, slid down rock faces, been knocked over, has fallen over, covered head to toe in clay. And It still looks and operates like new.
I'm working on a fix for the airbox boot. The reed block keeps falling out ! But I have a fix for it. The bike is amazing when running correctly no complaints love the new bike. I just wanted to ride it in stock form before I get an ecu and exhaust on it. I think I fixed it but Don't want to say anything before I know it a successful fix 💯
Check fuel pressure. Easy check, check the little filter in the fuel line at the bottom of the fuel tank at the Quick disconnect. These tiny inline filters are only good for 10 hours of run time. They go longer, but starting and running issues as you are having are common
I know the feeling. After 4 decades of owning japanese bikes with no problems when they where new, i bought a husqvarna. Now it needs 2 grand worth of parts put into it so it doesnt granade. And cost 3500 plus. Other than that these euro machines feel cheap compared to honda build quality
Found out problem was reed block in the air box fell out ! 😮put back in and it's fine but scary if you jump stuff and the bike bogs out on a jump your dead .....
@@metalmotomayhem watch the Taco Moto video on how to delete those reeds out of the air box. They are just for sound dampening to pass emissions tests and will fuck up your motor if the break off into the intake.
Removing the reeds does nothing for low end torque actually hurts it, only really helps sound 70-100 % open throttle . If that’s what your after get the euro boot
You can't with the exc -f because of the pds shock . However, let's hope the Rtv silicone is the fix for it or we all need a new part for all the 2024 bikes.
@@metalmotomayhem so the reed came loose in the airbox? Is that what you are saying? If so thats wild! I mean i know it would lean the bike out quite a bit, but no idea it would make it run like that…
theres a reed in the airbox that will pop out because the shit stock tuning and backfires it makes the bike sound very loud and weird and boggy. easy fix pop off the air filter put the reed back in and the shit push in retainer and it will be back to normal or you can keep it out and the bike will run better after about an hr i took mine out of my 6 days and onve the computer figured it out it was fine
Oil should have been changed after the first hour. To anybody watching, this is how NOT to break in a new engine. Also, If your looking for a KTM 500, 2014-2016 are the best bikes ever made.
I am proud to be a new subscriber, but this is very disappointing news. I was considering buying a new 2024 KTM 690 ENDURO R, now I am considering not too.
Yeah if you talk to mechanics who work on dirt bikes all the time they'll tell you ktm makes the most bulletproof engine, you'll never rebuild one of these, where as the Japanese bikes will blow up. Look at his next video it's simply some stupid two stroke reeds they put in the air box in order for it to run on the stock ECU to pass emissions. You can just pull them out and everyone who buys a street legal bike is gonna do an ECU tune to cool it down and unleash the power. Most people have a hell of a time getting these reeds out this dude just got unlucky.
You went from saying this was the perfect bike, too don't buy this piece of shit, Without doing any research on US models vs any other model, that doesn't require the heavily regulated laws you have in emission bullshit these bikes have to run. Don't blame KTM lol
The reed block in the airbox is not glued in the bike. when the bike was ridden like a dirt bike, it did not perform as such. Ktm is as fault for the problem we all in life have things and guidelines to work around and must reach the goal of your project or production. Yes, Ktm is at fault! Who else is at fault? Make it easier to modify after perches, like having an adjustable ecu and exhaust system on the bike's would solve the problem, but it's always about the money 💰 🤑 💸 so yes, it's Ktm 's fault. In the USA, the bike is sold at 16 thousand dollars at dealerships, so no shit why I'm pissed off 😤 lol 😆 🤣 never had any other bike do what the ktm did .
I wrote a whole reply and then deleted it, From a guy who said they've bought thousands and thousands of bikes, which is impossible by the way, I just have this to say now. Are you dumb?@@metalmotomayhem
What a spectacle of a bike but just lacking the build quality. KTM are just another overpriced name I believe beta and fantic are the ones to side with nowadays.
And this is why I always buy Japanese bikes. Never had a single problem with my 2009 WR250F. OR any other Japanese bikes for that matter. I have a 2006 KTM 525 EXC-F converted to a SM. Leak oil and i can't tell from where? Had in mind to buy a 2028-2020 500 EXC-F and use it as a dual sport, but watching this makes me wanna stay with the Japanese WR450F. Thanks for sharing man, i hope it works out for you. Feel very sorry to see this. Don't know why most people say these are "premium" bikes? There not. Japanese bikes are light years by far premium bikes more than KTM.
