It looks like they don't want to bring any people movers to Australia and bringing this as an "look, we tried, but sold only 7 over 3 years" exercise. Look at their Toyota versions (Alphard/Vellfire) released this year in Japan. Mid range version with a proper 7 seats with AWD hybrid power train can be had at tad over 1/3 of this price. And they are much more comfortable and efficient and practical and safer than any SUV at that price bracket. Yes, they are all AND, not OR.

A lot of people actually, especially if it's the Toyota variant (Alphard/Vellfire). Here's the thing, a G-Class has near to no presence in the Asian markets unlike the SUV-crazed American/Australian market. At the end of the day, it's just a giant SUV that doesn't have the levels of comfort these potential buyers want. The Alphard/Vellfire/LM is far more practical for day to day use, drives smoothly, and most importantly very comfortable and quiet.

@@user-wc3tz3be1j Definitely will choose an Alphard/Vellfire/LM over the X7 and I'm not even trolling. These vans actually held up their prices far better than an X7 will ever be and again in terms of comfort these van triplets will outperform the X7.

Not quite. The LM is based on the TNGA-K platform that underpins the Kluger (and Sienna people mover overseas), not the commercial vehicle platform from the HiAce and Granvia - so should be much more comfortable and quiet as a result.
