In 2023 a $32k vehicle is considered dirt cheap? 🙃Inflation is out of control. Good review. 👍 👍

Well, the Obama-era fuel and motor regulation kind of pushed prices up pretty quickly. During grad-school, one of my Economics professors was pointing out the repercussions of greater government regulation over the auto industry (particularly dealing with incremental mileage increases).

I purchased a 2023 CX-30 earlier this year. I had considered Toyota, Honda, Ford and Subaru models. I just couldn't find the quality and features at this price point. I had considered a CX-5 and CX-50; however, I just wanted this one for a San Francisco Bay Area/Silicon Valley daily commuter with weekend camping trips in the mountains (my wife and I don't have children yet). So, I opted for the smaller but very similar CX-30. It's been perfect for this! Best of all: I really enjoy driving this vehicle! It's very...fun. While there are a few things that can be improved, they are fewer and farther between when you compare it with other vehicles in this particular segment (most of which lag noticeably behind in terms of quality). I am confident that I would seriously consider a CX-50 when we have children. Then again, we had family visiting recently. We took several road trips with two adults and a child in the backseat and the CX-30 didn't feel too small (although the longer CX-50 would likely help make it even more comfortable).

@CDX7

Reasons I chose the CX-50: infotainment is best in class factoring screen size and wireless CarPlay (makes RAV4 look archaic), dial input is safer and easy, AWD + ground clearance is great for snow and off-road, panoramic sunroof standard, and the two tone mesh and leather seats are amazing and perfect for hot climates. This never gets mentioned. Cloth seats on the competitors are awful and if you want leather they need to be ventilated so you’re way up in the price ranges now. Steering is stupidly good in fact it gets comparisons to Porsche of all things. And finally it obviously looks cool and has tons of cargo capacity too. All this for 30k is a steal.

Finally a review on an entry level vehicle that isn't loaded to the gills with top of the line features … Thank you for that! Mazda is not the biggest player in the automotive market, but what sets them apart is dependability, the quality of materials and most importantly the driving experience. I bought a 2017 CX-5 new.. Zero issues so far. Only thing I don't like about the CX-50 is the cup holder placement and the 40/60 split seats, the Mazda CX-5 wins over these trivial differences. CX-50 looks beefier and more rear seat leg room than the CX-5. Mazda all the way! Good video!

The 2.5L engine is one of the most reliable 4 cylinders in the world. It actually surpassed Toyota’s current 4 cylinder in reliability within the last few years. The turbo version is actually quick for what it is and is capable of much more but, Mazda tunes them for the general market. That said, an I6 (inline 6 cylinder) would be AWESOME for the CX-50. It would honestly kill the competition. The exterior design is slick but, the cladding should be painted in the same color of the vehicle. There’s a few changes I would make to the interior but, it’s sharp nonetheless. I would try to utilize more leather and less plastic, especially around the center console and the bottom of the driver/passenger seats.

I wonder what the performance numbers will be for the hybrid CX-50. Hopefully Mazda doesn’t skimp on HP/Torq. If they can put out a CX-50 that does 0-60 in the lower 5 sec range, they’d kill the competition! Rav4 Prime has a 5.8 sec 0-60 so they need to match or do better. That said, my 2024 CX-50 does 0-60 in the low 6 sec range on a full tank of premium gas + sport mode. The handling is unreal for a small suv/crossover.

The leather seats on my 2024 CX-50 Turbo Premium are comfy but, they’re also stiff enough to hold you when hitting a corner at speed. Are they luxury soft/plush like in a Escalade or Navigator? No. But they are a perfect blend of comfy, sporty, and premium imho. As for the 2.5L engine, it’s phenomenal. Within the last couple years, the NA 2.5L engine from Mazda surpassed Toyota’s 4 cylinder engine in reliability. The turbo version does offer a noticeable difference in performance though. So it depends what you’re looking for. With proper maintenance, the turbo version will serve you well. And the handling of the CX-50 is best in class or at least in its segment.

The pano roof doesn’t bother me all that much. It does offer a nice touch for the people sitting in the rear. But I can understand the need for wanting it to open all the way. The rear bumper vents piss me off cause it was a missed opportunity on Mazda’s behalf. I mean, why make the front ones functional and not the back ones?! I also agree the cladding should be color matching, it’d look much sharper 👌. The only other thing that could make it better, is an optional I6 (inline 6) engine or a HO 4cyl/hybrid.

The non-turbo models don't have auto-stop...they have cylinder deactivation which automatically shuts down two of the four cylinders when the extra power isn't needed.; the turbo models have the auto-stop feature, but that can be disbaled with a switch on the dashboard. The only way to get around the cylinder deactivation is to continually drive in 'sport mode', which will kill fuel economy and make for a rougher ride. I don't like either of these feature, but at least the auto-stop can be disabled, which is why I'm considering the turbo model.

It sounds like I'm in an aircraft when I change the gear selector to park with the automatic parking break I think, but you can hear all these mechanisms working. I never test drove the Maxda CX 50, but in my oppinion I still prefer the RAV4, the inside is more roomy, the view is better and it sits higher, not to mention it has 203 hp with an 8 speed regular transmission, plus the AWD is optional not forced to buy it and additional gas to run it on.

The turbo model has auto-stop which I really don't want either, but that can be disabled by the flick of a switch on the dashboard. I've owned a 1979 RX-7 (bought new), a 2005 3, and currently a 2014 6. All told, 500k miles with only a failed air compressor on the 3 and a failed sensor on the 6. But the CX 50 has dropped the base trim for 2024 which it won’t have no more cloth seats for the model. So, that will help Mazda push their brand further upmarket. @@Antwalls92The CX-90 isn’t “near” luxury, it IS luxurious with great performance for its size/weight. Now, is the pricing the same as the German or other Japanese luxury brands? No. Mazda is definitely moving towards the upscale luxury/performance side of the market. The days where Mazda was just a Japanese tuner brand are gone. That’s not to say you can’t tune a modern Mazda though. CorkSport has a ton of performance upgrades for current Mazda models, including the CX-50. Personally, I feel the CX-90’s exterior looks like a cross between a Range Rover Sport SV(R) and BMW X5. Especially from the side & rear. Mazda has a chance to become the next Lexus or BMW. They just need to offer more powertrain options across all models, like the CX-50. If Mazda offered a I6 or 4-6cyl/hybrid for the CX-5/CX-50, they’d run the game. The quality of Mazda vs. Jeep is literally night and day. Jeep makes some of the worst products on the road. I'm not sure why you would even consider them. Not to mention, the overall aesthetics don't even come close.
@alexferrara9287
@alexferrara9287 21 день назад
Did you just say Jeep is a “vastly superior vehicle” to Mazda?! I mean, you might get superior off-road capabilities but, that’s about it. Unless you’re getting a Trackhawk or an older SRT8, the Mazda CX-5/CX-50 are quicker to 60mph. All the V6 Jeeps have a 0-60 in the low-mid 7 secs where the Turbo 2.5L’s are in the mid-low 6 secs. Everything else is predominantly subjective. But I’d wager the Mazda’s overall quality of interior and reliability, is superior to that of Jeeps.

@alexferrara9287
@alexferrara9287 21 день назад
Ummm, that’s totally misinformation. Any turbocharged engine has the potential to crap out after a length of time due to carbon build up and various other issues. But that’s ANY turbocharged engine. That said, there’s a lot of people that don’t do regular maintenance on their vehicle, which is one of the prime culprits of a turbo/turbocharged engine going bad. The NA 2.5L 4cyl Mazda engine literally surpassed Toyotas 4cyl engine in terms of reliability. And the turbo version has been overall reliable as well.

I just recently bought a 2024 CX-50 (Premium). In general, I'm loving it. However, I can't help but think that the central control area/console was designed by fools. Two main things stand out: 1) The cup holders are stupidly placed and too small. The circumference doesn't support larger cups or water bottles. Even worse, they are located so far forward that anything larger than a 12 ounce soda can comes into conflict with the dash and climate controls above it. Just 2 or 3 inches back would make this infinitely more usable. It clearly seems that this was an afterthought or just something where they said, "Cram it in anywhere." 2) The wireless charging pad is poorly placed and poorly designed. The pad is located so far back and tucked under the storage console that it's hard to see. What's FAAAR worse is that it has very limited functionality. If I try to use it to charge my phone I get a message "Wireless charging not available." I asked the dealership about it and they said that it appeared to be a size issue (though a Google Pixel 6 Pro is NOTTTT an overly large phone by today's standards. I then looked in the user's manual. It says the phone must be Qi compatible at under a certain voltage (which it is). However, then there's a little note that says it may not work if, "The mobile device is placed in a position extremely deviating from the center of the charging area." What this REALLY means is the charging pad is so poorly designed/sized that it will only work with a very limited range of phones. Since this was one of the main reasons I went up to the premium trip, this really pisses me off. I frankly feel like I've been the victim of a bait-and-switch -- they claim they have a feature (semi-universal wireless charging) which they do not. So, in general, a nice car, but some really stupid things:

I've had three Mazdas (including an RX-7 purchased new in 1979) with a total of 500k miles on the them.
